Release notes

[1.96.1] - 2026-09-11
Pressing Cancel could leave a tab looking like it had finished successfully with nothing to show. When a
PowerShell query was cancelled in a narrow window — while its engine was still starting up — the query never
ran, but nothing told the tab that. It received an empty list of results, which for a question like "which
DNS servers am I using?" or "what did Defender find?" looks exactly like a real answer of "none". The tab
would then show an empty state instead of saying it had been cancelled. Cancelling now always reports itself,
whichever moment it lands in.
Fixed
- A cancelled PowerShell query is no longer reported to the app as a successful run that returned nothing.
It only reported cancellation when the engine was interrupted mid-script; a cancel that arrived before the
script started, or one that failed to interrupt a script already running, was silently discarded.
- Cancelling now works the same way with administrator rights as without. The two are not the same
underneath — running elevated hands the work to a separate Windows PowerShell process — and the cancelled
result came back in a different form from there that the app did not recognise. So on an elevated session
a cancelled query surfaced as a raw engine error rather than as a cancellation. This is the half that
could only ever be seen on a machine running as administrator.
- The cancellation paths now say which one happened, so a failure of this kind can be diagnosed from its
message instead of from a stopwatch. That is what this bug needed five CI failures to work out.
Verify the download
Get-FileHash .\SysManager-v1.96.1.exe -Algorithm SHA256
Expected SHA256: 3FFB9D135864A7417C6DD3965D1361A330FA6F702F61385A81B49DF27CAA738B
This build is not code-signed, so Windows will warn on first launch. That is
expected for a small independent app: see what the warning says and what to
click.
Code signing is planned through the SignPath Foundation,
which provides free certificates to open-source projects, with signing performed by
SignPath.io. Until then, the SHA256 above and the build
attestation below are what establish that a download is the genuine build.
Code signing policy
This release is not code-signed. The team roles, release-approval process and
privacy policy required by the SignPath Foundation programme
are documented in advance under Code signing
policy. That
documentation is a prerequisite for applying, not evidence of a certificate. The
attribution line naming SignPath as the signing provider will appear here once a
certificate is actually issued.
This program will not transfer any information to other networked systems unless
specifically requested by the user or the person installing or operating it. Full
privacy policy.
Verify where this binary came from
This exe was built by GitHub Actions from this public source, and the build is
recorded in the Sigstore public transparency log. With the
GitHub CLI:
gh attestation verify .\SysManager-v1.96.1.exe --repo laurentiu021/SystemManager
That proves which commit and workflow produced this exact binary, something the
SHA256 file cannot show, since it is published alongside the exe it describes.
Each release also ships SysManager-v1.96.1.sbom.json, a CycloneDX inventory of
every dependency resolved for this build.
