Release notes

[1.59.0] - 2026-08-10
Fixed
- The app refused to end Notepad, and told you it would crash your PC. Process Manager would not let you end 49 ordinary programs — Notepad, Calculator, Paint, Task Manager, Registry Editor, Command Prompt, PowerShell, Windows Terminal, Snipping Tool, Media Player, Explorer and more — and said each one "would cause a system crash (BSOD)". That was simply untrue. The check was reading the wrong thing: the built-in database records whether a program ships with Windows, and that was being used to mean "ending it will crash the machine". The processes Windows genuinely cannot survive losing (winlogon, csrss, smss, services, lsass, wininit, …) are still refused exactly as before. Everything else is now your decision.
- Windows components warn you honestly instead of blocking you. Ending Explorer to fix a frozen taskbar, or Print Spooler when printing is stuck, are normal things to do. They now ask first and say what to actually expect — "will not crash Windows, but a feature may stop working until you sign out or restart" — rather than pretending it is impossible.
Added
- A Safety column in Process Manager, answering the question the tab exists for. The app has always carried a 108-entry database that knows whether a process ships with Windows, is a well-known application, or is not recognised at all — and it never showed you. Every row now carries a label: Windows, Known app or Not recognised, each explaining on hover what that means for ending it. "Not recognised" is deliberately plain grey rather than a warning colour: most of what runs on any PC is not in a 108-entry list, and that alone says nothing bad about it. The column sorts, so everything unfamiliar can be grouped together and reviewed in one go.
Verify the download
Get-FileHash .\SysManager-v1.59.0.exe -Algorithm SHA256
Expected SHA256: 930B70E3253E159820F00F0B21A738A7D2AB197F51FD5090D8A42BE9C6739283
This build is not code-signed, so Windows will warn on first launch. That is
expected for a small independent app: see what the warning says and what to
click.
Verify where this binary came from
This exe was built by GitHub Actions from this public source, and the build is
recorded in the Sigstore public transparency log. With the
GitHub CLI:
gh attestation verify .\SysManager-v1.59.0.exe --repo laurentiu021/SystemManager
That proves which commit and workflow produced this exact binary, something the
SHA256 file cannot show, since it is published alongside the exe it describes.
Each release also ships SysManager-v1.59.0.sbom.json, a CycloneDX inventory of
every dependency resolved for this build.
