Release notes
RandPass 2.3 has been released.
This update makes generated passwords cryptographically secure by default, adds a password strength rating based on entropy, and expands the bundled word lists with BIP-39 and Orchard Street options.
The standout change is the new default random generator. RandPass now draws from the operating system's cryptographic source (BCrypt on Windows, urandom on Linux) instead of a statistical generator (Mersenne Twister). That is the right default for anything you intend to use as a real secret. If you need the older, faster behaviour, you can enable it in the settings.
Another headline addition is the password strength indicator. Each generation is rated from the entropy of the current options (character pool or word list, length or word count, format, and extras such as random case, digits, or symbols). Two passwords created with the same settings get the same rating, because the figure describes the recipe, not the particular string on screen.

Other changes:
- Added word lists: BIP-39 English, Orchard Street Medium, Orchard Street Long.
- Custom character sets now accept characters beyond the Basic Multilingual Plane, including 3 and 4-byte Unicode.
- Controls scale automatically on High DPI displays.
- Added a main menu option to open the online documentation, with help links updated to the new docs platform.
- Updated Russian language file.
- Upgraded build environment, plus general optimizations.
