QuickView v6.40.1.1 Stable Release Notes
We are thrilled to announce the official release of QuickView v6.40.1.0 Stable!
This release is the culmination of extensive real-world testing and over two weeks of stability hardening. It introduces our brand-new GeekWidgets atomic UI library, an interactive cropping system and dedicated export panel, native WMF/EMF vector support and dynamic animated SVG playback, direct clipboard bitmap copying, instant loading in folders with 40,000+ files, full keyboard navigation in Settings, and a wide range of important bug fixes.
✨ What's New & How to Use
1. Next-Gen GeekWidgets: Modern Capsule Sliders & Effortless Controls (#144, #242, #243)
We completely re-architected QuickView's custom UI controls with our unified GeekWidgets atomic library, bringing an intuitive, pixel-perfect experience to the Settings overlay:
- Modern Pill Sliders: Replaces clunky legacy sliders with sleek, theme-tinted capsule sliders that feature subtle progress fills and high-contrast accents.
- Vector Steppers (< & >): Dedicated precision stepper buttons at each end allow for single-step adjustments with a single click.
- In-Place Direct Number Input: Click directly on the value text inside the slider to switch into an in-place text input box. Type your desired target value (e.g., 375, 80%, or 1.5) and press Enter—complete with strict boundary checks.
- Quick Reset Button (↺): A standalone reset button next to each slider lets you restore default values in one click.
- Drawing Tablet & Stylus Support: Fully optimized event handling for graphics tablets (e.g., Wacom Intuos), ensuring natural pen scrolling and zero interaction lockups.
2. Interactive Image Cropping & Modern "Save As" Export Panel (#201, #225)
Designed specifically for creators who need quick, zero-friction reframing and saving:
- Enter Crop Mode: Right-click anywhere on the image and select "Crop", or simply press the X hotkey.
- Fast Selection: While in crop mode, hold Ctrl and drag your left mouse button to instantly draw a crop bounding box (Ctrl-drag box selection). Corner and edge handles allow for smooth fine-tuning.
- Dedicated Export Panel: Press Ctrl + S or choose "Save As..." from the context menu to bring up the modern export dialog.
- Modern Formats & Smooth Quality Wheel: Export to JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or JXL with real-time file size estimation and mouse-wheel quality slider control.
3. Native WMF / EMF Vector Decoding & Animated SVG Support (#242, #238)
- Windows Metafiles (WMF / EMF / WMZ / EMZ): Native, high-performance decoding for classic Windows vector formats with high-quality anti-aliasing and full transparency support.
- Animated SVGs: SVGs utilizing SMIL, CSS animations, or <animateTransform> tags now automatically route through an offscreen host for fluid animation playback, while static vectors retain the blazingly fast Direct2D native rendering pipeline.
4. Direct Clipboard Bitmap Copying (#240)
- Paste Anywhere Seamlessly: Previously, copying an image placed file-drop references (CF_HDROP) on the clipboard, which many third-party apps could not interpret directly.
- How It Works: Press Ctrl + C, and QuickView will generate high-fidelity standard CF_DIBV5 bitmaps via background delayed rendering. You can now immediately paste image pixels directly into Discord, Telegram, Slack, Photoshop, MS Paint, and web editors with Ctrl + V.
5. Instant Opening in Giant Folders (40,000+ Files) (#241)
- Completely revamped the directory indexing and asynchronous scanning pipeline. Opening an image located in a folder with tens of thousands of files is now virtually instantaneous (millisecond-grade startup), eliminating multi-second freezes.
6. Full Keyboard Navigation in Settings (#144)
- 100% Mouse-Free Control: Navigate the entire settings overlay seamlessly using Tab, Shift + Tab, Arrow keys, Enter, and Space.
🐛 Bug Fixes
- [#246] Window Exit Focus Handover: Fixed an issue where closing QuickView failed to return keyboard focus clean

QuickView v6.31.0.0 - Faster TIFF, Built-in Print Preview, Windows 11 Look & Smarter Controls
Release Date: 2026-08-14
Welcome to QuickView v6.31.0.0! This is the first stable release since v6.22.3. It brings together the features we already tested on the Pre-release channel — big TIFF files open much faster, printing has a real preview, Windows 11 looks more native, and everyday viewing is easier to control.
Huge TIFF Files Open Faster, and More Formats Look Right
Opening large TIFF files used to feel slow. This version uses a new built-in TIFF reader (no extra library, so the app stays small).
- Much faster TIFF: In our tests, a 12.8-megapixel TIFF dropped from about 1.9 seconds to 360 milliseconds.
- Giant 16-bit TIFF: Very large 16-bit TIFF files now load and display correctly.
- CMYK TIFF: Print-oriented CMYK TIFF files show the right colors instead of looking wrong or failing to open.
- Huge images stay complete: When you zoom into extremely large photos, tiles no longer go missing and the app no longer keeps the CPU busy for no reason.
If a rare TIFF still looks wrong, please report it — the custom reader is built for speed and size, and we want to hear about any odd files.
Print With a Real Preview
The old Windows Photo Printing Wizard is gone.
- Our own print window: See the page before you print, including a live grayscale preview.
- Poster / tiling: Print one photo across several pages when you need a large print.
- Remembers your choices: Paper size, orientation, and printer options are kept for next time.
A More Native Windows 11 Look
- Mica menus and window: On Windows 11, the main window and right-click menus can use the system Mica material so they match the rest of the desktop.
- Windows 10 is still supported: Older Windows keeps a compatible look. Acrylic is still available if you prefer it.
Gallery and Filmstrip, Your Way
- Drag to resize: Pull the filmstrip edge to make the thumbnail bar taller or shorter.
- When it appears: You can now adjust how close the mouse must be, how long to hover, and how long it waits before hiding.
- Stay open while you browse: New option to keep the gallery visible after you click a thumbnail.
- Slideshow crash fixed: Slideshow mode no longer crashes after certain display resets.
- Cleaner bar: Slimmer arrows, tighter margins, and a smaller pin button.
Minimap and Zoom That Match the Photo
- Show the minimap with M: Wake it up from the keyboard whenever you need a map of a zoomed image.
- Scroll on the map to pan: Hover the minimap and use the mouse wheel to move around.
- Very long or very wide photos: Clicking and dragging on the map now lands on the right place.
- True 100%: 100% zoom uses the photo's real pixel size, so it matches what you expect.
- Locked window, still works: Fit and 100% shortcuts work correctly when the window size is locked.
- Fullscreen and pixel-art: Fullscreen zoom no longer jumps to the wrong size, and pixel-art mode stays sharp.
- Small SVG files: Tiny SVG graphics now fit the window instead of appearing too small or too large.
Settings You Can Save, and Shortcuts That Do What You Mean
- Import / export settings: Back up your configuration, or copy it to another PC, from Settings.
- Switch back to Stable: If you tried the Pre-release update channel, you can now switch back to Stable without getting stuck.
- Show or hide OSD tips: Turn those on-screen messages off if you prefer a quieter view.
- Show in Explorer: New shortcut to jump to the current file in File Explorer.
- Choose what double-click does: Keep the smart Fit / 100% / original-size cycle, or use double-click to swap wheel actions or switch to pan mode.
- Larger keyboard pan steps: The pan-distance sliders now go higher if you like bigger jumps.
- Your color for overflow edges: Pick the color of the indicators that show when the image is larger than the window.
- Locked window stays locked: A smart double-click will no longer resize the window when window lock is on.
