BowEcho v0.35.0 delivers native-resolution satellite imagery, much faster
progressive map loading, and the newest Rusty Weather model and data support.
Satellite
- Full Disk imagery now uses retained native-source tiles as you zoom, both
locally and through compatible rw-server satellite services. Map detail is
no longer limited to the compact loop preview.
- Satellite tiles appear progressively and concurrently. The center of the
view arrives first, and the previous georeferenced image remains visible
while a sharper zoom loads instead of disappearing or collapsing into a
rectangle.
- Live and Load latest prioritize the newest complete scan. Older
history loads in the background only when a loop is requested.
- Starting a live follow exposes its retained frames on the radar map
immediately, while the Full Disk action centers and fits the complete disk.
- Already-retained source scans are not downloaded again. Corrected or
republished scans at the same time are detected and refreshed.
- Multi-channel products require matching source scans, preventing adjacent
or incomplete channel times from being combined.
Radar and map performance
- Live Level-II sweeps reveal newly arriving radial chunks smoothly over the
previous completed tilt instead of waiting for an entire sweep.
- Warning-heavy regional maps use bounded fill work and geometry caching;
outlines remain responsive during interaction and fills return when the map
settles.
- Repeated wheel and trackpad zooms cancel obsolete warning, model, and
satellite renders instead of allowing old work to delay the current view.
Models and inspectors
- Hidden model layers are now dormant: they no longer feed stale inspector
values, render invisibly, or keep regional work running in the background.
- Turning Models off cancels outstanding map, lookup-table, and upper-air work.
- Regional model rasters use bounded detail and latest-view-wins cancellation
for more responsive panning and zooming.
AROME-France
- Adds Météo-France AROME-France downloads for the 0.01-degree surface lane
and the 0.025-degree surface and pressure-level lane.
- Both lanes expose eight daily cycles through forecast hour 51, with suitable
default surface and sounding profiles.
- Latest-run availability requires every package needed by the selected
profile and forecast hour, so partially published runs are not shown as
ready.
- Download estimates account for grouped packages and shared static files
without charging the same source object once per forecast hour. |
| 0.34.14 | २०२६ अगस्ट २१ | — | ६४-बिट पोर्टेबलARM64 पोर्टेबल रिलिज नोटहरूBowEcho v0.34.14
BowEcho v0.34.14 restores a more practical radar workspace and brings together
the latest radar, sounding, map, contour, and 3D improvements.
Radar workspace
- The full Classic radar sidebar is the default again. The smaller Compact
layout is still available.
- You can create custom sidebar tabs and fill them with the controls you use
most. Custom tabs can be renamed, duplicated, reordered, and deleted, and
their sections can be added, removed, or reordered.
- Add sections now opens correctly, including from an empty custom tab, and
takes you directly to that tab's editor.
Radar and maps
- Cursor probes, Vrot measurements, and pinned inspectors now stay tied to the
exact pane, frame, product, tilt, dealiasing setup, and storm motion shown on
screen. Changing the source clears stale measurements.
- Radar range edges now line up correctly in map views, RHI displays, swaths,
and CfRadial import/export.
- Differential phase now smooths correctly across the 0/360-degree boundary.
- Panning stays responsive on warning-heavy maps; warning fills return when
interaction stops.
- Additional safeguards prevent damaged or hostile radar files from consuming
unbounded memory or stack space.
Soundings and objective analysis
- Corrected effective bulk wind difference and Bunkers storm motion in the
objective-analysis composite fields.
- Improved SCP, STP, VTP, helicity, and effective-inflow behavior, including
Southern Hemisphere storm-motion handling.
- Fixed pressure-level edge cases that could incorrectly reject an otherwise
valid sounding calculation.
- Clarified effective-inflow and effective-bulk-shear labels.
Contours and 3D radar
- Upper-air contours generate substantially faster while preserving line and
filled-band topology.
- Upgraded 3D lighting and volume rendering make storm structure easier to
read and reduce unnecessary work in empty parts of the volume.
- 3D thresholds and surfaces now behave appropriately for reflectivity,
velocity, correlation coefficient, differential reflectivity, KDP, spectrum
width, and differential phase.
- Maximum Projection now favors the strongest visible contribution, and
missing velocity or floor data no longer appears as a valid strong return. |
| 0.34.13 | २०२६ अगस्ट १४ | — | ६४-बिट पोर्टेबलARM64 पोर्टेबल रिलिज नोटहरूBowEcho v0.34.13
This update restores the radar, archive, and model workflows reported during
RC testing while expanding BowEcho's normalized Rusty Weather model catalog.
Radar and archives
- Restores the always-visible radar frame scrubber with the selected frame,
timestamp, and status, while archive frames appear progressively as they
finish loading.
- Restores date-based SPC storm-report and tornado browsing, including a
clickable tornado list that can open the nearest-radar archive loop.
- Adds an always-visible model forecast-time scrubber that follows the actual
available-hour axis instead of assuming every forecast hour exists.
Model downloads and soundings
- Keeps Latest as an explicit user action: it no longer probes in the
background, is time-bounded, verifies the requested products and forecast
hours, and reports the provider it found.
- Newly written model hours now select and reveal the exact downloaded run,
rather than leaving the browser expanded on an older run.
- Fixes stalled-download state after a worker disconnect and improves the
visibility of acquisition work already in progress.
- Keeps the last complete sharppyrs sounding and toolbar mounted during fluid
Ctrl+Alt refreshes, eliminating the repeated panel collapse and jump, and
gives a newly docked Sounding the larger initial share.
- Corrects observation-analysis unit conversion and adds spatial buddy checks
so display-space Fahrenheit values and isolated bad reports cannot create
false cold pools.
Models
- Adds 12 normalized public-model lanes across ECCC, DWD, CMA, Roshydromet,
and CPTEC forecast products. Deterministic fields, provider-published ensemble
statistics, pressure levels, valid times, grid geometry, and provenance stay
explicitly typed rather than being inferred from filenames.
- The Models workspace can discover the expanded Rusty Weather catalog through
the existing remote-server workflow. Unsupported fields and incomplete
provider semantics remain unavailable instead of being guessed.
- ECCC rotated-grid winds are converted to earth-relative components with
fixture and live-provider checks. Published ensemble products remain
statistics-only and never imply access to raw members.
Data integrity
- Fixes bounded GRIB range reads and JPEG2000 cleanup for real operational
payloads.
- Fixes GRIB2 spatial-differencing missing-value decoding, preventing provider
missing codes from becoming enormous but plausible-looking weather values.
- Latest-run discovery now uses each model's first published lead, including
models whose cycles begin after forecast hour zero.
- Scheduler admission rejects partial substitutions for typed provider-
statistics profiles before any download or store mutation begins.
Every newly enabled lane is backed by a pinned official inventory and either a
fixture-level or live end-to-end RWS validation. Model availability still
depends on the configured Rusty Weather server and its published runs. |
| 0.34.12 | २०२६ अगस्ट ४ | — | ६४-बिट पोर्टेबलARM64 पोर्टेबल रिलिज नोटहरूBowEcho v0.34.12
This release expands local WRF analysis, adds initial ArWen output support and
official MRMS observations in WoFS, and resolves several satellite, radar, and
appearance problems reported after v0.34.11.
Models and WRF
- BowEcho now recognizes ArWen-generated wrfout files through their producer
metadata while retaining compatibility with ordinary WRF workflows. ArWen
and other WRF scenes are kept in separate compatible groups.
- Imported WRF runs retain presentation-safe producer, version, domain, grid
dimensions, and resolution metadata. Native plots and exported batch PNGs
show that context without recording the original source path.
- Standalone 10-m wind plots now show the complete range down to calm winds
instead of masking values below 10 kt. User color-table overrides still take
precedence, and the intentional threshold on MSLP wind overlays is unchanged.
- Domain extrema… in Models > Field tools graphs a stored 2-D field's
whole-domain minimum or maximum without requiring a pinned map probe. It
preserves exact subhourly lead times, supports long minute-cadence runs,
marks the run extremum and its time, and loads a timestep when its chart point
is clicked.
- Native batch plots now use exact forecast-time labels and include available
WRF/ArWen grid context in their subtitles.
WoFS and MRMS observations
- WoFS now retains the official product metadata needed to distinguish
forecasts from observations.
- Official MRMS composite-reflectivity observations can use their native
valid-time URLs, including pre-initialization frames and midnight crossings.
- WoFS timeline controls, radar-time synchronization, map drapes, and status
labels support negative, zero, and positive observation offsets.
- Overlays are requested only at times they advertise, and availability checks
use the correct forecast or observation URL scheme.
Satellite and lightning
- Saved-run filtering is now scoped to the selected GOES, Himawari, or
Meteosat provider and product. Changing provider, band, sector, or MTG
product clears stale imagery before rebuilding the relevant catalog.
- Explicit one-shot RGB, focused-window, and SimSat results remain selectable
without allowing unrelated cached products to replace the active display.
- Valid warm and clear IR pixels remain visible on the map instead of becoming
transparent and leaving only sparse cold speckles. The satellite-layer
opacity control remains responsible for radar blending.
- GOES live follow lists directly rendered ABI bands; composite recipes remain
in the dedicated RGB loader.
- The lightning layer is now labeled GOES GLM, large flash counts are
compacted, and Meteosat LI is presented as a separate gear-menu action.
Radar, alerts, and inspector
- Disabled sweep cuts remain disabled as later scans arrive, and re-enabling a
cut clears its session-wide exclusion consistently.
- The field loupe no longer intercepts ordinary map zoom. Use
Control/Command+wheel or the new Inspector slider to change loupe
magnification.
- Inspector coordinates can be hidden, and the preference persists.
- Storm-track geometry remains visible, while motion text is shown only for
the selected track to reduce map clutter.
- Unacknowledged current alerts flash their row accent until acknowledged, and
the selected alert's full text can be collapsed.
- JTWC forecast matching is restricted to its covered basins so a same-name
match cannot replace an NHC/CPHC forecast.
Appearance
- Persisted Slate and Graphite selections now keep BowEcho on its dark UI
branch at startup, preventing a Windows light-theme event from resetting the
interface to white.
Operational notes
- Every official release asset is built from the v0.34.12 tag by GitHub
Actions. Matching .sha256 files are published beside the Windows, macOS,
and Linux downloads. |
| 0.34.11 | २०२६ अगस्ट २ | — | ६४-बिट पोर्टेबलARM64 पोर्टेबल रिलिज नोटहरूBowEcho v0.34.11
This release substantially expands native model analysis and export, improves
satellite loading and map behavior, and fixes several radar timeline and
inspection workflows.
Model and GRIB analysis
- Shift-clicking the map can now place a fixed model/GRIB probe. The inspector
reports the sampled value and units together with the run, lead, and
authoritative valid time, and the probe remains fixed while the view or
model timestep changes.
- Forecast graph plots the fixed point through locally stored forecast
times. The same graph can display the selected field's domain-wide minimum
or maximum, preserves missing-data gaps, and reads only the required grid
windows and cached field statistics.
- Model point sampling now uses the same bilinear curvilinear-grid sampling as
the displayed field, including a fallback to adjacent valid cells.
- The Models GIS controls now use packaged data in release builds. Native plots
include detailed worldwide country, state/province, coastline, and lake
context, with U.S. county boundaries available at county detail.
- The floating Native plot window now exposes durable map-detail, layer,
line-style, sampling, plot-style, output-scale, and saved-domain controls.
Rerender applies those choices immediately, and applied settings are
restored on the next launch.
WRF processing and export
- Quick import and full diagnostics publish each completed WRF timestep to the
Models library immediately after its atomic store commit. The optional
Follow completed timesteps while processing control advances the viewer
as new times finish; turning it off preserves the timestep being inspected.
- GIF loop and MP4 video actions in Field tools render the current field
across all completed timesteps using the native plot pipeline. GIF encoding
is built in; MP4 export uses ffmpeg when it is available on PATH.
- Animation export writes an ordered PNG sequence beside the final media file,
reports progress, uses bounded frame memory, and removes an unfinished output
when cancelled.
Satellite
- Tropical true-color requests now load the latest usable native frame instead
of starting a large multi-frame visible download. The visible action is
disabled on the storm's night side with IR remaining available.
- One-shot tropical and RGB loads now select their completed result atomically
even when its satellite, sector, resolution, or focused crop differs from the
live-follow panel. GOES RGB requests retain the selected detail settings.
- While the map is moving, an older satellite texture is reprojected across the
current map view instead of sliding as a single rectangle and snapping into
place after movement stops.
- SimSat results now have Save plot PNG, using the same georeferenced
1600x1200 export path as the satellite Native plot window.
Radar timeline and inspection
- Newly arriving low-level cuts no longer force the display through every new
sweep by default. Follow new low cuts is now an explicit persisted option
with a configurable minimum time gap, and it pauses during loop playback.
- Archive warning previews retain already visible, time-valid polygons until
the final warning sources arrive, preventing warning boxes from briefly
disappearing while stepping through the radar timeline.
- Storm-track analysis now warms complete frames from the loaded radar loop in
bounded background batches. The controls show analysis progress and make it
clearer that clicking a track exposes its motion and valid times.
- The weak-reflectivity gate filter now applies to reflectivity itself as well
as velocity and dual-pol decluttering, and its label and threshold describe
that behavior directly.
- Inspector-card visibility and each inspector field option now persist across
app restarts. Fixed probes also provide explicit forecast-graph and unpin
actions.
- The bottom status bar compacts background activity on narrower windows to
avoid overlapping status text, and the recent-radar-cache action is shown
only when it can t |
| 0.34.2 | २०२६ जुलाई १६ | — | ६४-बिट पोर्टेबलARM64 पोर्टेबल रिलिज नोटहरूBowEcho v0.34.2
This release adds a full sounding-correction workflow, faster warning
inspection, broader European alert coverage, and substantial radar, satellite,
WoFS, and placefile improvements.
Sounding correction lab
- Added a separate, resizable, non-destructive correction lab for editable
model soundings.
- Correct thermal, moisture, and wind profiles independently, with
variable-specific depth, domain, and blend shapes, including draggable custom
profiles.
- Added visible QC for supersaturation, dry instability, invalid states, and
wind-seam kinks, plus an optional reversible dry convective adjustment.
- Sounding plots, parcels, hodographs, and diagnostics update immediately from
the corrected profile; Reset original restores the untouched source.
- Save fingerprint-bound projects, export CSV or SPC/SHARPpy RAW, import RAW
soundings, and run deterministic batch experiments over up to four correction
fields.
Warnings and Alerts
- Clicking warning polygons now opens compact geo-anchored cards with every
warning at that point, including wind, hail, tornado/damage tags, expiry,
issuing office, dismiss controls, and links to full details.
- Added automatic warning-source selection: NWS for operational US radars and
official MeteoAlarm Atom/CAP feeds for supported European radar countries,
with manual source and country selection available.
- MeteoAlarm warnings include severity-aware accents, full details, and
official CAP links. The anonymous public feeds do not provide polygon
geometry, so BowEcho presents them honestly as list/detail warnings without
inventing map placement; historical timeline sync remains NWS-only.
- SPC mesoscale-discussion map clicks now open Alerts directly, and official MD
graphics can be opened in a larger scrollable viewer with Fit, 100%, and
10-400% zoom controls.
Satellite and WoFS
- Fixed cached GOES RGB composites bypassing the selected spacecraft or sector,
which could produce convincing previews but empty map coverage.
- Fixed inverse-grid indexing on very wide and antimeridian-crossing satellite
domains so coverage remains reachable across the full frame.
- Added Center on satellite coverage and clearer messages distinguishing an
out-of-sector view from a transparent visible-light frame at night.
- WoFS drapes now continue loading and syncing when the WoFS window is closed.
- Added accurate ready/loading/unavailable/error states so stale or unvalidated
frames are never labeled active.
- Added a high-visibility mode that lifts low-alpha WoFS guidance without
recoloring, repositioning, or filling transparent pixels.
Downloaded placefiles
- Added multi-file import for downloaded local placefiles, including .txt,
uncommon extensions, and extensionless files.
- Local sources persist in the Layers list and support the same enable, refresh,
reload, and remove workflow as URL feeds.
- Relative local sprite-sheet references resolve beside the placefile, with
clearer load status and generation-safe refresh handling.
Radar products and quality of life
- Replaced abbreviation-heavy product chips with a categorized, full-name
product browser covering base moments, velocity, volume/hail, dual-pol,
precipitation, quality, texture, and simulation fields.
- More products exposes the extended catalog; advanced sweep products
compute lazily when selected, while KDP remains automatic when its source
metadata are trustworthy.
- Added one-click editing for the active radar product's color table under
Custom > Appearance.
- Added a sidebar collapse handle, direct Undo for workflow presets, and
native-resolution sounding-board image capture.
- Moved loop frame-count selection beside Load Loop for a clearer loading
workflow.
DWD radar
- DWD now prefers quality-controlled polarimetric reflectivity, falls back
through simpler filtered and raw variants when necessary, and enables
available ZDR, RhoHV, and PhiDP moments by default.
- Missing optional dual-pol products no longer prevent the base
