🔧 NetSpeedTray v1.3.3: The Updater Fix
A stabilization release that repairs a critical regression in v1.3.2: the app shipped without OpenSSL, which silently broke every HTTPS request — including the built-in update checker (the "Could not check for updates" error many of you hit). This release restores it, hardens the build so it can't happen again, and fixes a startup crash plus four other reported bugs.
> ⚠️ If you're on v1.3.2, the in-app updater can't reach GitHub — so it won't notify you about this release. Please update manually from this page, or run winget upgrade erez-c137.NetSpeedTray. Once you're on v1.3.3, automatic update checks work again.
🐛 Bug Fixes
Update Checker Broken — "Could not check for updates" (critical): v1.3.2's slimmed-down build accidentally stripped Python's OpenSSL libraries (libcrypto-3.dll / libssl-3.dll) from the bundle on the false assumption that Windows uses SChannel — but Python's ssl is backed by OpenSSL, so _ssl could no longer load and all HTTPS failed. Restored OpenSSL, shielded it (plus _ssl/_hashlib) from UPX compression, and added a build-time guard that fails the build if these libraries ever go missing again.
Crash After Enabling Auto-Cycling (#131): A one-character typo (constants.renderer.renderer.…) crashed the app on every launch once "cycle" display mode had been saved. Fixed.
No Speed Shown Above ~5 Gbit/s on 10GbE NICs (#154): The widget capped speeds at the link rate Windows reports via psutil, which is unreliable for multi-gigabit adapters — anything above the (often wrong or half) value was silently dropped, leaving a constant 0. Removed the per-NIC cap; a 100 Gbps absolute ceiling plus the rolling-average spike filter still guard against counter glitches.
Color Coding at Idle + Live Apply (#153): Color coding now shows the Default Color at rest — the bands are ascending (below Low → Default, Low–High → Low Color, above High → High Color) — and color/threshold changes now apply instantly instead of only after a restart.
Widget Hid Over Fullscreen Despite "Keep Visible" (#107): The fullscreen emergency-hide path ignored the "keep visible over fullscreen" setting that the normal visibility logic already respected. It now honors it.
AMD Ryzen CPU Temperature (#148): Ryzen exposes its CPU temperature as Core (Tctl/Tdie) rather than CPU Package. Detection now also matches on the LibreHardwareMonitor identifier (/amdcpu/, /intelcpu/) and the Tctl / Tdie / Tccd labels.
Settings Window Scrollbars: The Settings window now auto-sizes to its content (using the real on-screen fonts) and is a touch taller, so the General page no longer shows a stray horizontal or vertical scrollbar, and dropdowns no longer stretch to the width of their longest item.
📦 Packaging & Installer
Clean Upgrades: The installer now clears the previous app payload before copying the new build, so upgrades no longer leave behind stale, mismatched DLLs from older versions — the leftover-file problem that turned the OpenSSL bug into a confusing version mismatch on upgrade. Your settings and history in %APPDATA% are never touched.
numpy Hardening (#136): numpy's compiled core (_multiarray_umath) and its bundled OpenBLAS are no longer UPX-compressed — a known cause of "DLL load failed while importing _multiarray_umath."
🌍 Localization
Updated the High/Low Speed threshold tooltips to describe the new ascending-band color behavior across all 9 supported languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Slovenian). 100% locale key parity preserved.
Also filled in the UI strings that were still showing in English for German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Polish, Russian, and Slovenian — mainly the App Activity window, the Support Bundle export, and the Preferred Monitor setting. These are AI-assisted translations pending native-speaker review (noted as such in TRANSLATORS.md, and not attributed to the human translators) — one-line correction PRs are very welcome a |

🚀 NetSpeedTray v1.3.0: Hardware Monitoring, App Activity & Settings Overhaul
This is the biggest feature release since launch. NetSpeedTray can now monitor your CPU, GPU, RAM, and VRAM alongside network speeds — with optional temperature and power readings. A new App Activity window shows per-process network usage, and the Settings UI has been redesigned from the ground up.
✨ New Features
Hardware Monitoring: Track CPU/GPU utilization, RAM, and VRAM usage directly on the taskbar widget. GPU support is vendor-agnostic via Windows Performance Counters (PDH) — works with NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel.
Temperature & Power Readouts: Optional CPU/GPU temperature and power draw (Watts) displayed next to utilization. Temperature sources cascade automatically: LibreHardwareMonitor → nvidia-smi → Windows ACPI. Power uses Intel RAPL (non-admin) for CPU, nvidia-smi or LHM for GPU.
LibreHardwareMonitor Integration: NetSpeedTray auto-detects a running LHM or OpenHardwareMonitor instance via WMI, unlocking temperature and power readings for all GPU vendors. LHM can be started at any time — the probe retries every poll cycle.
App Activity Window: A new window (tray menu → "Show App Activity") displays estimated per-app network usage with connection details and endpoint info. Works in non-admin mode with gracefully reduced accuracy.
Widget Layout Modes: Choose from Side-by-Side, Stacked, or Auto-Cycle display modes for multi-stat widgets. Customize segment order (Network/CPU/GPU/None) to fit your workflow.
Graph Window Hardware Views: CPU and GPU history tabs with a refreshed Overview panel showing live-updating, synchronized charts and at-a-glance stats across all metrics.
Hardware Data Retention: Hardware stats now follow the same 3-tier aggregation architecture as speed data (raw 24h → minute 30d → hour up to 1 year), preventing data loss beyond 30 days.
🎨 Settings UI Redesign
Streamlined Pages (8 → 6): Merged Mini Graph into Appearance, Troubleshooting into a footer Export Log button, and moved Tray Offset to General (renamed "Options" → "Behavior").
Collapsible Sections: Hardware settings now use accordion-style CollapsibleSection widgets, keeping the most-used toggles visible while collapsing advanced options (Display Mode, Display Order) by default.
Win11 Flat Card Styling: Removed QGroupBox borders across all pages for a clean, modern Windows 11 card aesthetic with subtle backgrounds and rounded corners.
Interface Mode Subtitles: Each monitoring mode radio button now has a visible subtitle explaining what it does — no more hunting through tooltips.
Clearer Labels: Renamed several settings for clarity: "Force MB Display" → "Always Show Megabytes", "Label Style" → "Indicator Style", "All Physical Interfaces" → "Physical Adapters Only", and more.
🛡️ Robustness & Reliability
Tray Offset Fix: Fixed a copy-paste bug where the Y-offset fallback incorrectly used the X-offset default, causing subtle vertical misalignment.
Hardware Aggregation Safety: Hourly hardware stats aggregation now uses INSERT OR REPLACE instead of INSERT OR IGNORE, preventing silent data loss if maintenance re-runs after a crash.
COM/WMI Cleanup: Added proper CoUninitialize() and WMI object release in the monitor thread shutdown path to prevent COM reference leaks during app exit.
GPU Poll Refactor: Replaced the opaque GPU poll 4-tuple with a structured GpuPollResult NamedTuple for safer data handling and extensibility.
Log Noise Reduction: The "0 temperature sensors" message now logs once per namespace per session instead of every poll cycle.
🌍 Localization
Full 9-Language Coverage: All new UI strings (hardware power, monitoring mode subtitles, collapsible section titles, app activity) have been translated across all supported locales: English, German, Spanish, French, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Russian, and Slovenian.
🧪 Quality Assurance
Hardware Monitoring Tests: Added comprehensive test coverage for GPU polling (LHM/nvidia-smi precedence, power |
