Note di rilascio
Fixes
- LeopardWM no longer crashes when resizing a window's height in a column with 20 or more windows.
- Alt shortcuts no longer count as an extra key press when LeopardWM decides whether to undo an app's startup maximize. The unused key LeopardWM taps to keep the menu bar inactive is now ignored; key presses sent by other programs, such as AutoHotkey or on-screen keyboards, still count.
- Windows that ignore queued moves are now detected even after LeopardWM has been moving them for more than ten seconds. They now slide with the other windows instead of jumping into place when the scroll ends.
- An app's maximize button now returns when the app responds again after stalling during LeopardWM shutdown. If the app stops answering after its window style is restored, LeopardWM queues the frame refresh instead of leaving it unfinished.
- Quitting LeopardWM now brings other windows back on screen even if one app stalls during its recovery move. Emergency recovery waits briefly for each move instead of letting one blocked app leave the remaining windows off screen.
- lwm move --help and lwm doctor windows --help now describe every option. move mentions moving a column to either end of the strip, and --delay says it also waits before --watch starts.
0.3.2 17 ottobre 2026 — 64 bit MSI
Note di rilascio
Fixes
- Quitting or restarting LeopardWM no longer takes about 5 extra seconds.
- Firefox reopened after closing maximized now settles into its tile with its startup placeholder enabled. Releasing the launch key or moving the mouse no longer stops LeopardWM from undoing Firefox's startup maximize, so users no longer need to turn off browser.startup.preXulSkeletonUI. (#104)
- Workspace scrolling is smoother and more even in both directions. Slow-redrawing apps such as Zen Browser now slide in step with other windows instead of trailing behind and jumping into place. Tab bars, the focus border and the tray no longer hold up each animation frame, and each frame waits briefly for windows that apply moves slowly.
- Shortcuts that use Alt without Ctrl, such as Alt+J, no longer leave the focused app's menu bar active after they fire. LeopardWM now taps an unused key before Alt is released, the same way it already taps Ctrl to keep Win shortcuts from opening Start. (#145)
- Windows whose apps never apply queued moves, such as Wargaming Game Center, no longer stay out of their tiles after windows scroll or resize. LeopardWM now re-checks them and moves them back into their tiles within about a second.
- These windows now slide with the other windows during scrolls instead of jumping into place afterwards. The daemon log now names each window LeopardWM starts moving this way.
- A window on another workspace that moves itself back on screen, such as Zen Browser, is now moved off screen again. Previously it stayed visible over the current workspace until you switched workspaces.
- Consuming a window into the focused column (Ctrl+Alt+, and Ctrl+Alt+.) no longer pulls in a minimized window. It now takes the nearest non-minimized window and leaves minimized windows where they are.
- Apps launched on an empty workspace, and launchers dismissed there, keep you on that workspace again, and the empty workspace no longer adds a blank Alt+Tab entry. The 0.3.1 change meant to hide LeopardWM's invisible focus window from Alt+Tab didn't hide it, and it made Windows skip that window when choosing the next window to activate. (#136)
- Moving columns (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+H and Ctrl+Alt+Shift+L) or windows (Ctrl+Alt+[ and Ctrl+Alt+]) no longer appears stuck behind minimized windows. These moves now skip columns containing only minimized windows and use the nearest visible neighbour.
- Moving a window up or down (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+K and Ctrl+Alt+Shift+J) on a workspace with no tiled windows no longer crashes LeopardWM. A tabbed column also now shows the focused tab after a window or column is removed from it. (#147)
0.3.1 10 ottobre 2026 — 64 bit MSI
Note di rilascio
Fixes
- Saving Settings no longer drops extra shortcuts bound to the same command. Each configured shortcut now has its own row.
- Settings now uses a native-speaker-reviewed Simplified Chinese translation, including hotkey and gesture command names. Contributed by @bd-dxg. (#98, #143)
- Scrolling a window off-screen toward a neighbouring monitor no longer triggers a redundant layout update after the animation.
- Scrolling a window into view from the side of a neighbouring monitor no longer drops the animation frame rate. The focus border is now trimmed at the monitor edge when the scroll lands instead of on every frame.
- The tab bar now shows the configured colours. Red and blue were swapped in the tab bar background, active tab and tab icons. (#140)
- Empty workspaces no longer leave a blank entry in Alt+Tab. LeopardWM's invisible focus window, which keeps new apps on the empty workspace, is now hidden from Alt+Tab. (#136)
- Settings now offers all supported gesture commands. Next and previous window focus and 100 px viewport scrolling are available in the gesture menus, including the default modifier-plus-wheel bindings. (#142)
- Turning gestures on or off now takes effect without restarting. Settings saves and config reloads install or stop gesture detection immediately. Changing native three-finger swipe detection still requires a restart. (#142)
- The update check now uses rustls 0.23.45. It fixes a TLS 1.3 handshake validation issue (GHSA-2mjx-qc3c-rqvc).

Features
- Window rules can now target small helper windows separately from an app's main window. Set optional match_max_width and match_max_height limits in logical pixels, or edit Max width and Max height in Settings, alongside a class, title, or executable match. Ignored helpers are re-evaluated if they grow or their title changes; managed windows are not dropped for shrinking. Existing defaults are unchanged. (#129)
- Settings, tray menus, and daemon notifications now support English and Simplified Chinese. Choose Settings → Appearance → Language or set language = "zh-CN" under [appearance]; English remains the default, and changes apply without restarting. Adding a language now takes a single locale file; see Translating LeopardWM for instructions. The zh-CN translation is a machine draft pending native-speaker review. (#98)
- Move the selected overview window between workspaces without leaving the overview. Your configured move_window_up / move_window_down bindings move it to the previous / next numbered workspace, including empty ones, without switching workspace or taking focus. Selection follows the window; moves stop at 1 and 9, sticky windows stay put, and horizontal move bindings do nothing while the overview is open. (#70)
- Your directional focus bindings now navigate the workspace overview without closing it. focus_left, focus_right, focus_up, and focus_down follow your configured keys; arrows, Enter, Esc, and mouse controls still work. (#70)
- Taskbar buttons can now stay visible for windows scrolled out of view on the active workspace. Set taskbar_buttons = "hide_inactive_workspaces" under [behavior] or choose Settings → Behavior → Taskbar buttons → Hide inactive workspaces. The default, "hide_offscreen", preserves the existing behavior; "show_all" keeps all buttons. The old hide_offscreen_taskbar_buttons key keeps working, with the new key taking precedence when both are present. (#105)
- New windows can now open on the focused monitor's active workspace instead of the monitor where Windows placed them. Set new_window_monitor = "focused" under [behavior] or choose Settings → Behavior → New window monitor → Focused monitor; "opening" remains the default. This applies only to windows that open while LeopardWM is running, not already-open windows discovered at startup or during reload/rescan. Workspace rules select the workspace index on the chosen monitor; sticky windows keep their existing placement. (#108)
- Floating windows can now stay above tiled windows without taking focus. Enable floating_above_tiled = true under [behavior] or Settings → Behavior → Keep floating windows above tiled windows; it is off by default. Requires track_focus_changes = true (the default); restart LeopardWM after changing focus tracking. Turning tracking off stops re-raising on reload. Visible floating and sticky floating windows keep their relative order in the normal Z-order band, never become topmost, and are not re-raised during fullscreen or overview. (#117)
- Relative workspace navigation can now skip empty workspaces on the same monitor. Enable skip_empty_workspaces = true under [behavior] or Settings → Behavior → Skip empty workspaces; it is off by default. Previous/next workspace and edge-wrap vertical focus skip empty slots, counting floating and minimized windows but not sticky windows. Explicit workspace selection and window moves are unchanged. (#70)
- A documented Yasb configuration shows all nine workspaces on a selected monitor and switches them on click. The built-in Custom widget polls the existing CLI for active/occupied indicators and workspace-name tooltips; no plugin is required. (#127)
- One binding each can now cycle through all width or height presets, wrapping at the end. cycle_width and cycle_height are unbound by default, with CLI commands lwm cycle-width and lwm cycle-height. (#70)
- The only active tiled column can now stay centered when it fits in the viewport. Enable center_single_column = true unde

Note di rilascio
Fixes
- A window that opens maximized is now tiled even when Windows ignores the first non-activating restore. When that restore leaves the window zoomed, LeopardWM retries it on the window's own thread and waits briefly for the result, instead of leaving the window maximized.
- Tiling no longer pauses after wake when an app stays unresponsive during a monitor or dock change. Responsive windows are tiled immediately, while busy apps receive their queued placement once they respond. The daemon log names the windows deferred during display reconciliation. (#122)
- The daemon log and lwm doctor now show the log level. The startup line in the daemon log names the level the daemon is filtering at, and lwm doctor reports the log_level set in config.toml, so a log that stays quiet at "warn" or "error" is easy to recognize. The daemon reads the level only at startup, so restart it after changing log_level. (#113)
0.2.12 1 ottobre 2026 — 64 bit MSI
Note di rilascio
Features
- Precision Touchpads can opt in to experimental native three-finger swipes. Off by default. Contributed by @c3us-dev. Opt in with raw_input = true under [gestures] in config.toml or the "Native three-finger swipes" toggle in Settings, then restart LeopardWM. Set Windows three- and four-finger touchpad gestures to Nothing, or Windows will consume the swipe. Wheel-based swipes remain active if Raw Input registration or the device capability check fails at startup. lwm doctor and lwm collect-logs show whether native swipes are active or why they are inactive. Compatibility varies by device. (#102)
Fixes
- Quit from the tray now exits and restores parked windows even when LeopardWM has stopped responding, after a few seconds. (#128)
- An app that hides and recreates its window shortly after the PC wakes from sleep returns to its column or tab. Restoration requires the same process and window class, within about two minutes of resume and 60 seconds of the hide, and never changes another workspace's focus. The daemon log now records suspend and resume. Modern Standby uses the documented suspend/resume notification registration but has not been verified on Modern Standby hardware.
- Installing the MSI over an existing copy now replaces the watchdog and CLI executables. They now carry version information like the daemon.
- Daemon log failures are now visible in lwm doctor and lwm collect-logs. Diagnostics show the daemon-reported log path and report when it cannot open or write the log, or has not written to it since it started; log collection identifies the file it reads. The daemon writes one startup line at every log level, so the stale-log check also holds with log_level = "warn" or "error". The daemon keeps running if its log cannot be opened. (#113)
- Windows no longer jump back to an earlier animation position after landing when the app is busy. Late animation moves stay ordered before the landing endpoint. (#127)
- Apps that reopen maximized are restored without activation instead of staying maximized over the layout. Restoration runs off the event loop, so a busy app no longer freezes LeopardWM while it is restored. When the new window takes focus, its column fills the visible viewport; otherwise, it uses its usual width, including any per-app column_width setting.
- Dismissing Start or a launcher keeps the selected empty workspace. New windows launched there open on that workspace instead of returning focus to a parked window on another workspace.
- Windows that are minimized by Windows are no longer dropped from the layout. After a monitor disconnect or a normal minimize, they return in their own column, width, and workspace. Apps that hide to the tray are still removed.
- Tiling, hotkeys, and tray actions stay responsive when an app stops responding. Snap-layout changes and maximized-window admission restores are applied once the app responds. Queued snap-layout changes no longer affect a replacement window that reuses a closed managed window's handle.
- Switching tabs no longer leaves the shown window a few pixels inside its tab strip and border. When a window's frame insets were measured wrong just before it moved, the landing check re-measures them and places the window again.
- Minimizing a window no longer switches to a workspace where Windows activates a parked window. Missed minimize events are also reconciled so minimized windows do not leave empty columns.
- Restoring a window from the taskbar that was minimized on another workspace no longer bounces back to the current workspace. The window is not snapped away during its restore animation, and LeopardWM switches to its workspace once and keeps it focused; the restored window no longer drops and slides back in as its workspace appears.
- Column widths no longer drift when display resolution or scaling changes and then changes back. Rescaling keeps the original width fraction through rounded intermediate sizes, including for columns split off with expel,

Fixes
- The focus border no longer appears while an explicit workspace switch is still sliding. The border hides when the switch starts and appears on the focused window once the slide finishes.
- A recycled window handle no longer inherits a closed window's place in the layout.
Delayed close events for a reused handle retire the old window's membership and cached state, including a stashed scratchpad; a replacement already admitted keeps its own. A delayed hide from an older lifetime does not remove a replacement that Windows reported opening on that handle, including when the replacement is not visible. Temporarily ignored windows are unchanged. A window reusing a closed window's handle is no longer mistaken for that window's quick-closing popup, and does not pull focus onto another window or keep the closed window's column width. When the hidden window is already gone, the hide keeps the lifetime it recorded, so a new popup on the reused handle is tiled instead of suppressed and does not keep the hidden column width. A foreground replacement on the selected workspace is focused again after admission, without moving focus to another window. One parked on another workspace does not keep focus or the border. Emptying the workspace for a replaced lifetime does not bind or swallow a later focus on another workspace.
- Closing the last window keeps the empty workspace when the replacement HWND is not yet sampled.
If Destroyed or Hidden empties the selected workspace while the departing window is still the foreground, the first no-later managed activation on another workspace of that monitor is bound as the close-time replacement and does not switch workspaces. A later tick, a different window after that bind, an explicit workspace switch, and eventless pruning are unchanged.
- A deliberate activation after an app silently disappears is no longer swallowed.
When focus handling discovers that the last window on the selected workspace vanished without an event, the activation is treated as automatic only if that vanished window was the tracked focus; activations strictly newer than the triggering event still follow. Close-to-tray autoactivation keeps the empty workspace. A tracked window that vanishes without any event is detected within about half a second, so a later activation is not mistaken for an automatic one.

Features
- Complete workspace state over the existing IPC subscription. Opt in with
lwm subscribe --events workspace_state for coherent, byte-bounded snapshots
covering every connected monitor, all nine workspace slots, and tiled/floating
membership. Legacy default subscriptions remain unchanged. lwm query workspaces
returns one snapshot; lwm workspace N --monitor DEVICE selects a workspace on
an explicit monitor. IPC v4 adds this capability after v3 hotkey queries. See
agent_docs/ipc-events.md for schemas and recovery.
- Session-only ignore for the actual OS foreground window. lwm toggle-ignore
(and the unbound toggle_ignore hotkey catalog action) unmanages the live
foreground HWND without writing application rules or changing pause state.
The same command re-admits a previously ignored eligible window onto the
current monitor's active workspace. Persistent Ignore still wins. Memory is
session-only and is cleared when the daemon restarts.
Improvements
- Release every managed window from the CLI with lwm release-all-windows.
The command pauses tiling, clears active decoration, restores off-screen windows,
and cascades tiled and floating memberships without removing them. Use
lwm toggle-pause to resume; recovery failures and live windows that cannot be
restored, cascaded, or remain maximized leave tiling paused and are reported.
Release drains older placement work before cascading and orders final positions
after queued animation frames. A busy worker leaves tiling paused without a
cascade; explicitly retry the command once the worker finishes. Partial
off-screen recovery logs its restored-window count.
- Confirmed, non-skipped ordinary visible landings now log origin drift greater than 2 px at warn level with both rectangles.
The warning excludes parked, failed, unreadable, and non-visible landings, drift of 2 px or less, and size-only mismatches. Eligible drift can be diagnosed from a default-level daemon log; placement behavior is unchanged.
- Opt-in touchpad gesture diagnostic capture writes a bounded dedicated report.
[gestures] diagnostic_capture_secs (default 0, max 120) is startup-only; lwm reload does not start a capture. Restart with lwm stop then lwm run. The report distinguishes hook delivery, classifier pass/reject, accumulation, timeout, cooldown, recognized events, and daemon binding dispatch, including no-action. Capture can report disabled registration when gestures are disabled, but hook input is recorded only when gestures are enabled and registration succeeds. lwm collect-logs includes the full capture file. Default-off does not truncate a previous report; a new capture replaces it.
Fixes
- Temporary ignore now distinguishes a recycled live HWND from a destroyed one.
A delayed Destroyed event no longer wipes a replacement managed window or a still-ignored lifetime. A dead identity read prunes the session ignore instead of keeping it forever; an injected transient identity failure still stays closed. Production identity reads are IsWindow plus GetPropW (property handle or NULL) and do not classify GetLastError. Unmanage and readmit report layout failures instead of returning success with contradictory membership. Unmanage restores geometry before clearing placement cloak and park, cancels an unfinished drag or resize so MoveSizeEnd cannot reinsert the window, and drops owned tab-title and snapshot state. Explicit readmit adopts internal focus, border, and broadcast to the OS foreground without setting native focus or switching workspace. A failed placement drain, an injected transient identity read after drain, or a rejected readmission after drain leaves a pending idle reapply. Every layout path now keeps that recovery pending until the animation barrier clears and placement succeeds; transient placement failures retry a bounded number of times before being logged as deferred. Reused HWND admission, delayed Destroyed, and explicit mismatch retirement each clear stale old-lifetime icon, move-origin, and stash

Features
- Query effective hotkeys and export a PowerToys Shortcut Guide manifest.
lwm query hotkeys lists resolved bindings and configuration diagnostics.
lwm export-shortcut-guide writes YAML to stdout, --output PATH writes a
file, and --install atomically replaces
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\WinGet\KeyboardShortcuts\LeopardWM.LeopardWM.en-US.yml.
Matching CLI and daemon builds are required (IPC v3). The manifest is a
snapshot: reload LeopardWM and export again after changing bindings. Alternative
bindings appear as separate shortcuts. F13-F24 used as modifiers are skipped
with a warning; F13-F24 used as ordinary trigger keys can be exported.
Documentation
- The README now includes the official Scoop installation and update commands.
- The README documents hotkey query and PowerToys Shortcut Guide export.
Improvements
- The default width preset selector matches the other Settings dropdowns. The "Default preset for new windows" control now uses the same custom combobox as Centering mode, keeping its dynamic preset list, selection tracking, and disabled empty state.
- Empty tiled layouts stop retrying a current physical request. A genuinely empty apply consumes stale display stamps so the next layout can take the fast path, while filtered-empty batches still wait for a later landing.
- Doctor reports daemon and CLI integrity separately and lists privilege-blocked windows with their admission-time reason.
Integrity is the observed mandatory level (Medium, High, a numeric RID, or unavailable), not an administrator proxy. Empty output says no privilege-blocked windows are currently recorded. Nonempty output keeps HWND, title, and reason; only higher-integrity windows get elevation-can-help advice.
Fixes
- The active window border follows its target in z-order. Render and cached-move paths for tiled, drag, and floating windows stack the overlay immediately above that window. Ordinary targets keep the border out of the topmost band so it is not promoted over the taskbar; a topmost target still gets a matching overlay just above it.
- Inactive workspace windows stay offscreen after restart. Startup parks restored tiled and floating windows on inactive workspaces after restoring each monitor's active workspace, without moving minimized windows.
- Inactive workspace windows stay offscreen after a monitor reconnects. Display-change reconciliation parks restored tiled and floating windows on inactive workspaces after restoring a stashed layout, using the same no-size off-screen path as startup and without moving active, minimized, application-fullscreen, or unmanaged windows. While tiling is paused, minimized flags are still resynced and native windows are left in place.
- Hidden inactive tabs keep a stable off-screen origin across inset-cache restarts. Zero-size tab placeholders use the layout coordinate instead of converting through warm or cold frame insets, so native dimensions stay unchanged and the parked origin does not jump after a restart. Visible and nonzero off-screen placements still apply insets.
- Taskbar buttons resync after display changes and after a successful resume. Display reconciliation and a successful resume now run the same taskbar synchronization as startup. A failed resume stays paused and does not park inactive windows or change taskbar buttons.
- Inactive workspace windows are parked again after a successful resume. Resume still applies only the active workspace, then catches up inactive tiled and floating windows. A failed resume rolls back to paused without moving those windows.
- Snap Layout suppression survives restarts. Saved tiled windows regain the configured Snap Layout restriction when their workspace is restored, including inactive workspaces. Floating windows remain unchanged.
- Off-screen recovery recognizes Windows-clamped parking coordinates. Parking now uses the native coordinate limit so cleanup can find and restore parked windows without mistaking ordinary minimized windows for parked ones. Rec

Features
- Window rules can set their initial column width in Settings. The rule
Options menu accepts a viewport fraction from 0.05 to 1.0, or a blank
value for automatic sizing. Invalid values are highlighted without blocking
unrelated Settings changes from saving.
Improvements
- The Settings window is resizable and fits the monitor's usable work area.
Its default and minimum dimensions scale with display DPI, and it opens
centered and clamped to the available work area so controls remain
accessible on smaller or scaled displays.
- New scratchpads use proportional, monitor-aware default sizing. Initial
and fallback dimensions use half the active work area's width and
three-fifths of its height, with safe minimums and clamping for small
displays; first summons remain centered.
Fixes
- New windows stay on the monitor where Windows opens them. Monitor
selection uses opening bounds when they map to an attached monitor; otherwise
it retains the focused monitor, while preserving fullscreen stacking without
stealing focus when new-window focusing is disabled.
- Scoop release metadata and maintenance are corrected and guarded. The
checked-in manifest matches the published 0.2.7 package URL, checksum, and
extraction directory, while CI validation and release documentation prevent
stale metadata and premature pre-release refreshes.
- Workspace switches retain an explicitly empty destination. Delayed focus
notifications for the old managed window that were generated before switch
completion no longer pull the view back to its source workspace (#103).
- Minimum-width feedback uses the usable tiled width and keeps widened focused
columns in view. Stable, unusually large enforced minimums are immediately
remeasured once.
Internal
- Developer-only synthetic touchpad diagnostic. The platform example records
observed low-level wheel message kind, delta, coordinates, timestamp, and
injection flags for controlled three-contact swipes.

Fixes
- Disabled hotkeys survive unrelated Settings saves. A disabled action now
takes precedence over an obsolete matching binding when Settings loads, so
manual hotkeys.disabled entries and cleared rows are not erased on save.
- Individual gestures can be set to No action in Settings. Existing empty
gesture commands now display and remain disabled, while unknown custom values
display their raw command and survive unrelated Settings saves.
- Focus borders no longer linger after their window closes or hides.
- Windows that open maximized keep their maximized state while settling. Tiled
startup windows are held out of physical placement without leaving the layout,
while manually restored established windows snap back immediately.
- Application-owned fullscreen windows keep their fullscreen bounds. Managed
non-maximized windows that match a monitor's full bounds are temporarily
excluded from physical tiling placement until they exit fullscreen. Chrome
fullscreen exit refreshes stale frame insets instead of learning expanded
bounds as minimums, and settled work-area changes discard stale learned row
heights rather than retaining fullscreen sizing.
- Workspace wrap animations now travel in the selected direction.
- Scratchpads retain their latest floating size and position while hidden.
The saved session-only geometry is clamped to the active work area on summon,
so display topology changes cannot leave the scratchpad off-screen.
- Chrome tab tear-off and re-dock no longer freeze focus or leave a stale
ghost, snap hint, or pinned border. A departing window now drops only its
own ghost/crossfade ownership and unfinished resize/drag preview state, and
does not steal focus from a valid replacement window, including when that
departure's layout animation lands.
- Re-docking windows is easier from a stable top drag band. Hovering the
top of a target column preserves its geometry while still allowing a drop to merge.

Fixes
- Direct watchdog launches no longer open a console window. Release builds
now run as a Windows GUI-subsystem process, so launching the watchdog
directly (for example from a user-configured scheduled task) cannot expose a
watchdog terminal for LeopardWM to tile or users to close.
Crash supervision and Job Object daemon-lifetime coupling are unchanged.
- Windows input-method helpers no longer leave blank columns after sign-in.
The IME and MSCTFIME UI helper classes are rejected during live and
startup admission instead of remaining managed after becoming invisible.
- Windows session end no longer strands scrolled-away windows off-screen.
Committed sign-out, restart, and shutdown now restore snap styles and visible
window positions before the interactive session ends, preventing off-screen
sentinel geometry from carrying into the next sign-in. Graceful daemon
shutdown remains best effort after visibility recovery.
- Closing the console no longer strands scrolled-away windows off-screen.
Console close and Ctrl+C / Ctrl+Break now restore windows parked at the
off-screen sentinel before graceful shutdown, and the watchdog stays alive
long enough for the daemon to finish that cleanup instead of killing it via
the Job Object first.
- Trackpad modifier-scroll navigation no longer races through focus. Rapid
wheel-message bursts are normalized and rate-limited while separated mouse
wheel notches remain responsive.
- Battery animation preference is available and preserved in Settings. The
option now controls battery and Windows power saver motion reduction without
being reset by unrelated saves; disabling it takes effect at startup, while
Windows Accessibility animation settings still override it.
- Layout Settings no longer overflows horizontally. The default width for
new windows is now selected from a compact dropdown of configured width
presets instead of an unbounded numeric index. Options show their percentage,
and the selection stays valid as presets are edited or removed.
- Shell copy/move/delete progress dialogs are no longer tiled. Windows'
file-operation progress window keeps a minimize button, so the style-based
dialog check did not recognize it and reserved a column for it. It is now
skipped by class and stays at its natural size.
- Automatic placement timeouts now show the correct paused state. When a
five-second Win32 placement batch auto-pauses tiling, the tray immediately
changes to Resume Tiling, its tooltip reports Paused, and a notification
explains what happened. Logs now include every candidate window from the
timed-out batch with best-effort class, title, and executable details, without
claiming one was the blocker.
- Shell-open actions no longer invoke cmd.exe or block the daemon. Opening
the config file, log folder, releases page, or settings links now uses
ShellExecuteW on a dedicated COM-initialized worker, so shell association
resolution cannot stall the event loop and characters like & or % are not
reinterpreted as shell syntax or environment variables.
Improvements
- Read-only window admission diagnostic for bug reports. lwm doctor windows
(and leopardwm-cli doctor windows) inspects live top-level windows and reports
identity plus tile/skip verdicts for both the live-create and startup/refresh
admission paths, without changing tiling behaviour. By default only windows that
ADMIT on at least one path are printed (pass --all for every window). Optional
--watch, --delay, and --include-titles help catch transient popups safely
for public issue pastes. Live-create verdicts include the create/show WinEvent
pre-gate so minimized and non-WS_VISIBLE windows report SKIP rather than a false
ADMIT.
- Security policy accurately documents network and auto-start behavior.
SECURITY.md now describes the optional GitHub update check (endpoint,
frequency, what is and is not sent, and how to disable it) and the per-user
auto-start registry key. Documentation-accuracy correction only; no behavior
change.

Improvements
- Optional fullscreen-follows-focus (monocle). By default, changing focus
while a window is fullscreen carries fullscreen to the newly focused window.
With fullscreen_follows_focus = false under [behavior], a focus command
instead drops back to the tiled layout, so fullscreen only ever affects the
one window it was toggled on.
- More keys can be bound to hotkeys. PageUp, PageDown, and the numpad keys
(Numpad0-Numpad9, plus +, -, *, /, and decimal) are now accepted in hotkey
bindings, in config and the Settings recorder. Numpad keys fire with NumLock
on.
- The default width for new windows is configurable. A new
default_width_preset setting under [layout] picks which width preset new
windows open at (1-based index into width_presets, default 1). Previously
new windows always opened at the first preset.
- Move the focused window to the next or previous workspace. New
move_to_workspace_next / move_to_workspace_prev commands (bound to
Ctrl+Alt+Shift+PageDown / PageUp by default) shift the focused window one
workspace over, wrapping 1 to 9. Previously only the numbered
move-to-workspace shortcuts existed.
- Optional workspace edge-wrap for vertical navigation. With
workspace_edge_wrap = true under [behavior] (off by default), focus_up /
focus_down at a column's top / bottom edge switch to the previous / next
workspace, and move_window_up / move_window_down at the edge move the focused
window there. Applies in the tiled layout, not while a window is fullscreen.
- Optional mouse-follows-focus. With mouse_follows_focus = true under
[behavior] (off by default), the cursor warps onto the focused window after
a focus-navigation command, including the monitor focus/move commands. This
is the inverse of focus_follows_mouse and completes the vertical-monitor
navigation request. Applies in the tiled layout, not while a window is
fullscreen.
- Smarter off-screen parking on multi-monitor setups. A window scrolled off
one monitor's edge is parked just off the nearest edge that has no adjacent
monitor (below/above for side-by-side monitors, to the sides for stacked ones)
so it can't render on a neighboring monitor, adapting to the monitor
arrangement instead of using a fixed far-off-screen point.
Fixes
- .NET Framework windows animate smoothly instead of stuttering. WinForms
and WPF windows (Visual Studio, many .NET tools) were left out of the DWM
thumbnail animation path, so they moved via per-frame repaints during layout
changes, which made switching to them laggy and could leave them visually
corrupted. They now use the same ghost-animation path as Chromium and Firefox.
- Windows retile correctly after a monitor wakes from sleep. A screen
powered off long enough to drop from Windows would come back with some of its
windows left untiled and gaps in the layout: the windows Windows un-minimized
on wake were still flagged minimized internally, so they were skipped by the
tiler. Window minimized state is now re-synced against the OS after a display
change and on startup (the stale flags could persist in saved layout state
across a restart), so the layout tiles what is actually on screen.

Improvements
- F13–F24 can be used as hotkey modifiers. Hold one of these keys and press
another to form a combo (for example F13+H), the same way Ctrl or Alt work,
bindable in config and the Settings recorder. A key used this way is consumed
by LeopardWM and won't reach the focused app. F1–F12 remain keys only.
- Vertical monitor navigation for stacked displays. Focus or move the
focused window to the monitor above or below, picked by physical position.
New defaults: Ctrl+Alt+Win+Up/Down to focus, add Shift to move. Rebindable in
Settings.
- Fullscreen now follows focus. Changing focus while a window is fullscreen
keeps you in fullscreen and makes the newly focused window fullscreen, instead
of dropping back to the tiled layout. Structural commands (moving columns or
windows) still exit fullscreen.
Fixes
- Sticky tiled windows keep their width across workspace switches. A sticky
window in the tiled layout was re-added at the default width every time you
changed workspaces, shrinking it. It now carries its column width along.
- Windows that open maximized hold it better during a burst. An app opening
several windows or tabs at once could briefly report a restored size and get
tiled narrow. A just-opened maximized window now gets a short grace to
re-assert maximize before the layout snaps it back.
- Progress and notification dialogs no longer get tiled. A window with a
title bar but no minimize or maximize button (the typical dialog shape, like a
file-copy or progress popup) is now left floating where it opens instead of
taking a column, even when it is resizable. Add a window rule with the tile
action to override this for a specific app.
- Higher-privilege windows are left floating instead of getting an empty
column. When LeopardWM runs without administrator rights, Windows blocks it
from moving a window that runs at a higher privilege level (an elevated or
administrator window, or a protected process), so tiling one reserved a column
that stayed empty, including when a saved layout restored such a window after a
restart. These windows are now left floating, listed in lwm doctor, and
announced with a notification. Run LeopardWM as administrator to tile elevated
windows.
- A window no longer re-resizes itself every time you switch to a workspace.
When a workspace's column was saved narrower than a window's minimum width, the
window kept snapping back to its minimum on each switch to that workspace. The
layout now confirms the window's real minimum and widens the column to fit, so
it settles instead of fighting on every switch.
- A reopened app window no longer floats over the layout. A window the user
dismissed quickly and the app then reopened (for example Edge's download popup)
could be left floating on top of the tiled layout on every workspace. Only
genuinely frameless popups (notification toasts) are now treated as transient;
a real window is re-tiled normally.
- A new window no longer draws over a fullscreen window. While a window was
fullscreen, a newly opened window was placed behind it in the layout but still
rendered on top. The new window now stays behind, and the fullscreen window
keeps focus and stays on top until you leave fullscreen.
- Edit Config opens on the workspace you are on. A single-instance editor
(like VS Code) reuses an existing window, so clicking Edit Config could switch
you to whichever workspace that window was on. The config file is now pulled to
your current workspace instead.
- Windows keep their size and position when moved between workspaces. Moving
a resized window to another workspace re-tiled it at the default width, and
moving it back never restored where it had been. A moved window now keeps its
column width, and on return it lands back on its original column.
- The overview overlay stays put when an Alt-drag tool grabs it. A
third-party Alt-drag window mover (such as AltSnap) could drag the overview
overlay out of place while it was open. The overlay now holds its position for
as long as

Fixes
- Workspace names entered in Settings now save. The name fields weren't
wired to autosave, so edits were lost. Naming a workspace now persists.
- Fixed-size launcher and overlay windows are no longer tiled. A
non-resizable helper window (for example one of Raycast's) could be given its
own column, leaving a large empty slot. Only resizable windows are tiled now,
and a leftover helper from a previous session is cleared on the next refresh.
- Resolution and monitor changes keep working after you save settings. Saving
settings, reloading config, or recording a hotkey stopped the daemon from
noticing later display changes, so a resolution switch (or a fullscreen app
that changes resolution) left the layout sized for the old display until a
manual refresh. Display and power events are now tracked for the whole session.
- AltGr no longer triggers workspace shortcuts on international keyboards.
Hotkeys are now matched by a keyboard hook that tells left and right modifiers
apart, so AltGr (Right Alt) types accented characters instead of firing
Ctrl+Alt binds. Alt-based shortcuts use the left Alt key. The hook also drives
combos Windows owns, like Win+Ctrl+Arrow, so the "Reclaim Windows-reserved
shortcuts" setting is no longer needed and has been removed; combos reserved
below the hook, like Win+L, still can't be bound and now show a warning.
- Hotkey recording works on Dvorak and other non-QWERTY layouts. The
Settings recorder captured the physical key position, so a recorded letter
binding fired from a different key than the one you pressed. It now records the
letter your layout produces, matching the key that triggers the shortcut.
- Fullscreen windows no longer swallow commands. Focus and layout commands
now drop fullscreen and apply to the visible layout instead of the hidden
strip; scrolling and resizing are ignored while fullscreen.
- Focus-follows-mouse no longer flashes the taskbar. Focus now cancels when
the cursor leaves a window and is re-checked when it fires, so it only lands
while the cursor is still over the window.
- Toggling focus-follows-mouse now takes effect immediately. The tray and
Settings toggle installs or removes the mouse hook live, with no restart.
- Focus-follows-mouse now handles floating and tiled windows consistently.
Hovering between them focuses and highlights whichever window the cursor is
over, in either direction.
- Floating windows no longer grow each time you move them. A dragged
floating window now keeps its size.
Improvements
- Windows on other workspaces (and scrolled off-screen) no longer clutter the
taskbar. A window's taskbar button is hidden whenever it isn't visible in the
current view, and restored when it scrolls back or you switch to its workspace.
Floating and minimized windows always keep their button. On by default; toggle
it from the tray menu or Settings ("Hide taskbar buttons for off-screen windows").
- Window rules can place a window in a column and open it sticky. A rule can
now open a matched window at a fixed column slot, and make it sticky on open so
it follows you across workspaces (add the float action for a floating overlay).
Both are configurable per rule in Settings, under a new per-rule Options menu
that also holds the existing corner, workspace, and maximize choices.
- F13–F24 can be bound as hotkeys. The Settings recorder and config parser
now accept the extended function keys, useful for keyboard navigation layers
that map shortcuts onto them.

Fixes
- Clearing a hotkey now sticks. A removed binding used to have its default
re-added on the next load, so it kept firing and a blank field refilled on
restart. Cleared bindings are now remembered and stay unbound.
Improvements
- Record hotkeys by pressing them. In Settings, the hotkeys list now
captures shortcuts directly: click a binding (or press Enter) and press the
combo instead of typing it. Esc cancels, Backspace clears a binding. Global
shortcuts are suspended while recording so the combo you press doesn't also
trigger its current action.
- Long action names in the hotkeys list no longer wrap to two lines; the full
name shows in a tooltip on hover.
- The hotkeys list validates live. Recording a combo already bound to
another command shows an inline note, and the "couldn't be registered"
warning now refreshes the moment you change a binding instead of only when
you reopen Settings.
- Default workspace prev/next shortcuts are now Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Left/Right.
The old Win+Ctrl+Left/Right are reserved by Windows for virtual desktops and
never registered. Existing configs keep their current binds.
- Reclaim Windows-reserved shortcuts (opt-in, off by default). A new
Behavior setting lets combos Windows owns, like Win+Ctrl+Arrow, drive
LeopardWM instead of switching virtual desktops. Only known multi-modifier OS
combos are reclaimed (never combos another app owns); bare Win+key,
protected combos like Win+L, and keys sent to elevated windows are out of
scope.
- Add lwm workspace-next and lwm workspace-prev to cycle through workspaces
from the CLI (the workspace_prev/workspace_next hotkeys already existed).
- Sticky windows keep their mode. Ctrl+Alt+Y no longer force-floats the
window: a tiled window stays tiled and follows you across workspaces as a
column you can cycle to, while a floating window stays a floating overlay (as
before). The mode is whatever the window already is when you toggle it.
- Moving a stacked window past the end of the strip unstacks it. Pressing
move-window toward the edge now pops the window out into its own new column
off that end, instead of doing nothing.
- Jump to or move a column to the start/end of the strip. New
focus_start/focus_end (Ctrl+Alt+Home/End) jump focus to the first or
last column, and move_column_to_start/move_column_to_end
(Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Home/End) relocate the focused column there. Also as
lwm focus start|end and lwm move start|end. Home/End are now valid keys
in hotkey bindings.

Fixes
- The daemon no longer requests elevation by default. It runs at the same
privilege as the terminal that launched it, so admin users no longer get a UAC
prompt on launch and lwm works from a normal terminal. To manage elevated
apps you can still run the daemon as administrator; the IPC pipe now grants the
current user access either way, so lwm connects from a normal terminal
instead of failing with access-denied.
- Hidden windows keep their width when they reappear. A managed window that
is hidden and later shown again (for example by a third-party virtual-desktop
tool) now re-tiles at its previous column width instead of resetting to the
default.
- Rejected hotkeys are no longer silent. When the OS won't register a key
combo (Windows or another app already owns it), the Settings hotkeys tab shows
a dismissible warning listing the rejected binds, and the daemon logs them.
- Logs are written to a file now, at
%LOCALAPPDATA%\leopardwm\logs\leopardwm-daemon.log (the folder the tray's
"View Logs" opens and lwm collect-logs reads). Previously they went only to
stdout and were lost on a direct launch. collect-logs also bundles the
watchdog log.
