Enhanced private rooms membership experience
Adding members to private rooms is now clearer and more intuitive. The Add members dialog provides improved visibility into membership status, helping prevent duplicate additions.
What’s new
- Existing members are labeled Already a member or Selected and shown as disabled in the search.
- Hovering over existing or selected members shows a not-allowed cursor for clarity.
- Selected users appear in a Selected group before saving.
- Avoid duplicate member additions with improved visual feedback throughout the selection process

SMS Fix for Puerto Rico numbers
Resolved an issue that was preventing users from sending SMS messages to Puerto Rico. Messaging now works as expected.

With version 8.26, we’ve introduced new enhancements that make calling more flexible, improve accessibility, and enhance overall usability—especially for users without 8x8 Meet access.
Expanded conference calling access
- Users without an 8x8 Meet license can now initiate conference calls directly from the desktop app. Broader collaboration is now possible without requiring additional licenses.

The new brand identity refreshes the 8x8 Work desktop and web applications, bringing a modern and vibrant experience that reflects the company's commitment to innovation and a customer-centric approach.

- New illustrations: Provide 8x8 Work users with a vibrant visual language that enhances their experience, making navigating and understanding features easier.

- New logo and app icon: These have been redesigned to reflect the evolution of the 8x8 brand.

- The same great features now accompany a brand-new aesthetic, including a completely redesigned and modernized user interface that offers a fresh and enhanced user experience.

Ability to create expressive messages with AI Writing Tools
A new AI Writing Tools feature has been integrated into the chat area, allowing users to create efficient and expressive messages.

The chat input area now features an AI Writing Tools button and a list of tools designed to help you craft the perfect message:
- Generate Reply: Instantly creates a response.
- Professional: Maintains a formal and polished tone.
- Casual: Keeps the message relaxed and conversational.
- Sympathetic: Adds warmth and empathy.
- Expand: Adds more detail and depth.
- Shorten: Makes the message concise and straight to the point.
- Rephrase: Improves the submitted response.
- Original: Restores the original response.

Note: A Generate Reply option has been added to the More menu for any text message, making responses quicker and easier.

What's new in the 8x8 Work for Desktop/Web 8.21 release?
In this 8x8 Work for Desktop 8.21 release, we introduced the following enhancements:
Enhanced experience for uploading a profile picture
When users upload a profile picture that exceeds our size limit of 10 MB, they will receive a warning message detailing the reason for the unsuccessful upload. Previously, the image would fail to upload without any notification.

- When agents use 8x8 Work as their softphone endpoint for the 8x8 Contact Center, the X button on the incoming Contact Center calls info pop-up is unavailable.

What's new in the 8x8 Work for Desktop/Web 8.20 release?
In this release, we introduced the following enhancements:
- Ability to summarize chat messages
- Ability to create group MMS messaging
- Other enhancements

Ability to summarize chat messages
Note: This feature is free of charge and available for the 8x8 Desktop/Web apps version 10.20 and later.
We are introducing conversation summaries for the last 24 hours, the past 3 days, unread messages, or messages starting from any specific message. If you have participated in extensive discussions with colleagues or teams and wish to obtain a summary, you can easily generate one.
To summarize chat messages:
1. Open your list of Messages .
2. Depending on your needs, you can:
- Summarize the conversation from the past 24 hours, the last 3 days, and any unread messages:
- Hover over the desired chat, and then click More Options > Summarize .
- Choose the desired time frame: Unread, Last 24 hours, or Last 3 days, .

- Summarize the conversation starting with a specific message:
- Go to that message, and click More Options > Summarize from here . from here to choose the starting point for the summarization.

Introducing the unsafe protocol warning
8x8 Work for Desktop now shows a warning pop-up that alerts users when an unsafe protocol is used to display caller details. Although this pop-up feature is beneficial, an unsafe protocol can potentially compromise the user's computer by accessing the command utility and executing arbitrary commands.
Notes:
- All protocols that do not start with ‘http:’, ‘https:’ or ‘mailito’ are considered unsafe.
- To avoid any security vulnerability, enter only commands approved by your IT administrator in your pop-up.

Ability to disable startup pop-ups by IT admins
IT administrators can disable startup pop-ups in the 8x8work-config.json configuration file to avoid disruptive startup pop-ups upon opening 8x8 Work for Desktop. This feature benefits customers who engage in remote sessions and frequently clear their user cache.
The IT admins can now disable the following startup pop-ups at the specified locations using the indicated config keys:

Enhanced experience for typing into the dial pad
You can now type extension numbers into the dial-pad without formatting interruptions, ensuring precise input.

Ability to mask macro values in the caller info pop-up by IT admins
Admins can now hide the macro values i the caller info pop-up. Only the value of the query parameter called param will be encoded with base64. This feature returns an encoded base64 response for the provided URL.
The admins can set the new configuration for a specific user via the 8x8work-config.json file and for all users through the 8x8 Admin Console’s Work Apps Settings page.
Note: Users cannot change the caller info pop-up value/URL when this configuration is set up.

Improved display of phone number used by multiple contacts in active call user interface and call history
To eliminate confusion about the contact name displayed for a phone number used by multiple contacts, the active call interface and call history will only show the phone number, similar to the current practice with the incoming call banner.

In this release, we have introduced the following enhancements:
Ability to use a secondary device to play incoming ringtones for Citrix optimization
In this release, when the Citrix optimization is activated, users can now choose a specific speaker to play the calling sounds and incoming ringtones from the Secondary ring source list. The speaker device may differ from the microphone device.
