The Windows release: a full pass of testing on Windows turned up crashes,
hangs and slow spots, all fixed here, along with the editing keys Windows
users expect. Zorite also moves to GPUI Kit 0.8, and you can now copy text
out of PDFs.
Added
- Copy text from PDFs. Drag over text in the PDF viewer to select it, then
press ⌘C (Ctrl+C on Windows and Linux). Line breaks are kept. Highlight mode
works as before.
- Windows and Linux editing keys. Ctrl+← / Ctrl+→ move by word (with Shift
to select), Ctrl+Backspace and Ctrl+Delete delete a word, Ctrl+Home and
Ctrl+End jump to the start or end of the note, and Shift+Home / Shift+End
select to the start or end of the line. On a Mac, ⌥⌫ and ⌥⌦ delete a word.
Changed
- Moved to GPUI Kit 0.8.0 (gpui-pre 0.3.9), in step with Baudrun,
PortFinder and etch341. Zorite's Linux fix for Arabic dots and other
combining marks (#108) is carried over to the new version.
- Whiteboards draw faster, especially on modest graphics hardware: text,
the dot grid and pen strokes are prepared once and reused while you pan,
instead of being rebuilt every frame.
- Spell-check is faster, most noticeably on Windows: Zorite keeps one
system spell checker instead of starting a new one for every check.
- Security updates to the TLS libraries (rustls, rustls-webpki,
webpki-roots) used by the update check, and to the PDF libraries (hayro 0.8,
lopdf 0.46).
Fixed
- Typing Japanese or other IME input no longer crashes Zorite on Windows
when the note has text before the caret. Text you're still composing is now
underlined, as in other apps (#119).
- Undo no longer crashes Zorite on Windows when the page has Korean,
Japanese or other multibyte text after the edit. Undo and redo are also
saved right away and re-run spell-check, instead of waiting for the next
keystroke.
- Whiteboards no longer freeze when Windows is set to scroll one screen
at a time, and dashed lines no longer stall and run out of memory while
zooming.
- Thin whiteboard lines stay visible when zoomed out, instead of vanishing
or blinking.
- Whiteboard text in Korean, Hebrew, Arabic and other scripts now draws
from a system font when the board's font lacks it, instead of empty boxes.
This covers uploaded board fonts too.
- Changing the notebook password can't lose your writes when a second
window has the notebook open. If the encrypted copy can't replace the old
file, Zorite now keeps using the original and reports the error.
- The journal no longer creeps while you move the mouse on Windows in
the editing view.
- Colors in HTML (<span style="color: #e03e3e">) are no longer read as
tags, so they don't create empty pages named after the color.
- Cleaning up unused images keeps images referenced with different
capitalization (Pic.PNG vs pic.png), which Windows and macOS treat as
the same file.
- Opening a PDF in the system viewer works for any file name on Windows,
including names with &, % or ^.
- Settings → Notebooks buttons show proper labels (Switch, Rename,
Reveal, Remove) instead of raw translation keys.
- Shortcut hints on Windows and Linux in the PDF viewer and whiteboard
tooltips and menus read Ctrl+Shift+Z instead of Mac's ⌘⇧Z.

A Linux fix release.
Fixed
- Arabic and Persian letters on Linux — dots and maddas (the dots of
ب ت ث پ, the madda of آ) drew shifted to the left of their letters in the
sidebar, tooltips, and dialogs. Other combining marks, like an accent over
a letter with no precomposed form, sat beside their letter the same way.
This is a bug in the GPUI toolkit's Linux text layout; Zorite carries a fix
until it's fixed upstream. Reported by
@xXDevSShXx — thank you!
- The AppImage starts in sandboxes. It wouldn't launch under firejail
("AppRun: Permission denied"), or anything else that mounts the image
itself rather than through the AppImage runtime, because its launcher was
executable only by root.
What's Changed

| 0.12.0 | 22. September 2026 | — | 64-Bit MSI VersionshinweiseHighlights
The toolkit release: Zorite moves onto GPUI Kit and puts its new pieces to
work — a command palette, link previews on hover, a rebuilt Settings window —
plus highlights and colored text, and property fields that behave like real
text fields.
Added
- Command palette — ⌘⇧P (Ctrl+Shift+P), or View → Command Palette….
Type to run any menu command, the current page's actions (favorite, copy
link, rename, delete…), navigation (today, jump to date, All pages, the
Graph, show or hide the sidebar), or a quick setting (WYSIWYG, theme, line
numbers, sidebar side). Each command shows its shortcut.
- Link previews on hover. Rest the pointer on a wiki link, tag, block
reference, URL, or property pill — in either view — and a card shows where
it goes: a page's opening lines rendered as markdown (right-to-left pages
included), or the full address of a web link, so you can see where a link
really points before clicking it.
- Highlights and colored text. ==text== highlights in the theme's
color. For a chosen color, select text and right-click: two rows of
swatches set the text color or the highlight, ✕ clears it, and … opens a
full color picker. ⌘⇧H (Ctrl+Shift+H) toggles a highlight. Colors are saved
in the same form Obsidian uses, so they carry over between the two apps.
- Property fields work like text fields. Select with the mouse (drag,
double-click a word, triple-click the field) or Shift with the arrow keys;
cut, copy, paste, and select all with the usual shortcuts or a right-click
menu. The arrow keys now move out of the block at its edges, as they do
in tables.
- A rebuilt Settings window, with a sidebar search that also finds
shortcut names and dropdown options — search "pan" to reach the whiteboard
keys.
- Logseq imports turn ^^highlights^^ into ==highlights==; Obsidian
imports keep ==highlights== as they are.
Fixed
- Opening a page whose title starts with a non-English letter (Persian,
Arabic, Hebrew…) could crash the app.
- A template ending in a bullet (* ) lost its trailing space, so the bullet
didn't appear until you typed a space.
- Editing properties left a gap under "+ Add property", and clicking back into
the note afterwards left the caret stuck in the property block instead of
where you clicked.
- Five clicks on the Journal tab open the game again.
- The Settings sidebar and the command palette follow custom themes (the CRT
theme showed white labels and a borderless palette).
- Esc closes an open dialog even while a note is being edited.
Changed
- The UI toolkit moved from gpui-component to the
GPUI Kit crates on crates.io.
- PDF export uses oxidize-pdf 5; exported documents look the same.
- Zorite's eight reusable crates are published on
crates.io under the MIT license
(list).

| 0.11.0 | 30. August 2026 | — | 64-Bit MSI VersionshinweiseHighlights
The international release: the app speaks Simplified Chinese, and notes lay
out correctly in right-to-left languages — plus editable math accents and a
movable sidebar. The Chinese localization is contributed by
@shimoxi123 — thank you!
Added
- 简体中文 — the whole app is localized to Simplified Chinese: Settings →
General → Language. English synonyms still find settings in the search box,
and slash commands match both languages.
- Right-to-left text. Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and mixed-direction notes
lay out correctly in both the editor and reading view — paragraphs,
headings, lists and tasks, tables (columns mirror), quotes, alerts,
properties, links, and inline math — with the caret, selection, and clicks
following the visual order.
- Math accents. \hat, \bar, \vec, \tilde, \dot and friends are
first-class in the formula editor: type the command (or use the new palette
row), and the caret drops into an editable base. Opening an existing
\hat{x} no longer silently drops the accent on save.
- Formula editing, rounded out: select with the mouse by dragging; a
\command typed over a selection wraps it (selection becomes the fraction's
numerator, the root's radicand, the accent's base); { and } type as a
proper brace pair; backspace after an accent peels it, keeping the content.
- The sidebar can dock on the right — Settings → Appearance.
- AppImage delta updates. AppImages now embed update information and each
release publishes a .zsync file, so AppImageUpdate, AppImageLauncher, and
friends can update by downloading only the difference. This release is the
baseline — delta updates apply from the next release onward.
Fixed
- Large notes no longer hitch while typing — parsing runs off the render
thread.
- The unlock screen, calendars, and dialogs follow the chosen language
(previously parts of the app stayed in English).
- Formula editor polish: the \ autocomplete no longer hides behind the
palette, sizes to its content, scrolls correctly with the arrow keys, and
its scrollbar can be dragged; entering an inline formula no longer nudges
it; the caret enters a formula from the right side as well as the left; and
the up arrow at a document-opening formula no longer exposes its source.

| 0.10.1 | 24. Juli 2026 | — | 64-Bit MSI VersionshinweiseHighlights
A security release, from a four-domain audit of the codebase. If you use a
password on your notebook, update before changing that password — see the
first item.
Fixed
- Edits made after a password change could be lost (introduced in 0.10.0).
Changing or removing your database password left the app writing to the
database file it had just replaced, so anything you wrote afterwards was
gone at quit. Your notes on disk were always correctly encrypted and
intact — only that session's later edits were affected. Also fixes the
password staying in memory after locking.
- A note could no longer trick the app into launching a file. A link to a
non-PDF opened the PDF viewer anyway, and its "open externally" button then
handed the file to the OS — so a shared or imported note could get an
executable run in two clicks. Only real PDFs open the viewer now.
- Imports and exports stay inside their folders. Crafted references in an
imported vault could write outside the notebook, read files from elsewhere
on your disk, or — on the next export — overwrite files outside the folder
you picked. Every one of those paths is now checked. Symlinks are no longer
followed into or out of a vault, and malformed vault files can no longer
crash the app mid-import.
- Links only open the web. Clicking a link in reading view handed any
address to the operating system, including ones that reach Windows file
shares or launch other apps. Now http, https, and mailto open;
everything else is ignored — matching what editing view already did. The
same applies to links inside PDFs.
- Oversized or malformed images fail on their own instead of taking the app
down with them.
- The notebook database and data folder are created private to your user
account (Linux and macOS).
- A failed encrypt/decrypt no longer leaves a scratch copy of the notebook in
the data folder.
Changed
- The set-password dialog now says plainly that images and PDFs are stored as
ordinary files and are not encrypted — only the note database is.
What's Changed
- docs(changelog): the 0.10.1 security section (86a5223)
- fix(security): audit findings — data loss, path traversal, link schemes (a024cb2)
