This release makes it easier to stay in flow with side chats that run alongside your main chat, the ability to search agent transcripts, and simplified project and repo pickers.

Side chats
Open a side chat to ask questions, explore ideas, and investigate tangents without interrupting your main agent conversation. Use /side, /btw, or the plus button at the top of the chat panel to create a new side chat that has context from the main chat.

Each side chat is a durable, full agent conversation that you can follow up on, revisit later, and at-mention to pull context back into the main thread.
By default, side chats focus on reading, searching, and answering. Use them to ask clarification questions, research alternatives without committing to a pivot, and sanity-check a decision while the main agent continues running.

Conversation search
Find past agent chats faster with search results that go beyond names and PR numbers. In the Agents Window, you can search agent transcripts from the command palette (Cmd+K). Cursor builds a local search index that scales search to thousands of conversations with snappy performance.

Redesigned project and repo pickers
We've simplified the project and repo pickers and made them more powerful. You can now stay in the picker for workflows that used to send you elsewhere. For example, you can create a project and connect GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps without leaving the picker.

Search is now scoped to where you're working—This Computer, Cloud, or a specific remote machine—instead of one global search box. You can also remove projects from Recents with one click.

New cloud agent hooks
Cloud agents already support team hooks around tool execution and file/shell work. We've added new hooks that let you observe and control the agent conversation itself: prompts, responses, thinking, subagents, compaction, and turn completion. See all the supported hooks in our docs.
New hooks like beforeSubmitPrompt, afterAgentResponse, afterAgentThought, stop, subagentStart, and more allow you to better observe output and reasoning, control subagents, and build self-correcting loops with cloud agents.
Picker Improvements

- Improved repo picker grouping with options under No Repo, On This Computer, and Cloud.
- Added the "Run on" picker that shows where your agent can run (Cloud, This Computer, or Remote Machines) and drills into the relevant choices (environments, local options, and so on) from there.
- The branch picker opens on your default branch and recently used branches instead of a long flat list, with search for everything else.
- Removed the Home concept so working without a repo is an explicit No Repo choice.
- Combined all remote options—your machines, team pools, and existing remote workspaces—into one searchable Remote Machines menu.
- Multi-repo and multi-root selection is a Select Multiple toggle inside the Cloud and This Computer flyouts, replacing the separate Set Up Workspace builder.

We've expanded team marketplaces to support Team MCPs and organization groups.

Team MCPs in team marketplaces
Admins can now configure Team MCP servers once and distribute them across cloud agents, the agents window, IDE, and CLI.
When an admin sets up Team MCP servers for cloud agents, they can make those same servers available in a team marketplace from Dashboard -> Integrations & MCP. This allows members of the team to install approved integrations locally without configuring servers themselves.

Marketplace access by organization group
Team marketplaces now support organization groups, in addition to team-level SCIM directory groups.

Under Dashboard -> Plugins -> Team Marketplaces, restrict marketplace access to specific organization groups. Marketplaces that already use SCIM directory groups keep that configuration.

Auto-review is a new run mode that allows Cursor to work for longer with fewer approval prompts and safer execution.

Auto-review applies to Shell, MCP, and Fetch tool calls. Allowlisted calls run immediately, and calls that can be sandboxed run in the sandbox. All other agent actions go to a classifier subagent that decides whether to allow the call, try a different approach, or ask for your approval.
Configure your run mode in Settings > Cursor Settings > Agents > Run Mode. You can also steer the classifier agent by giving it custom instructions.

Auto-review is a new run mode that allows Cursor to work for longer with fewer approval prompts and safer execution.

Auto-review applies to Shell, MCP, and Fetch tool calls. Allowlisted calls run immediately, and calls that can be sandboxed run in the sandbox. All other agent actions go to a classifier subagent that decides whether to allow the call, try a different approach, or ask for your approval.

Shared canvases
You can now share canvases from Cursor with your team.
Canvases are interactive artifacts created by agents, like reports, dashboards, and custom interfaces. Instead of sharing a full chat thread, you can share a link to a live snapshot of a canvas for teammates to open in the browser.

View your team's shared canvases in the Cursor Dashboard with read-only access. Shared canvases are available on Pro, Teams, and Enterprise plans.

/loop skill
With /loop, Cursor can run a prompt repeatedly on a local schedule, until a certain outcome is achieved, or until you stop it. If you don't specify a fixed interval, the agent decides when or what event should wake it.
Use the /loop skill for local long-running agents. For example, you can ask it to “check deploy status every 5 minutes” or “work on this feature until tests pass.”

This release brings Cursor Automations to the Agents Window and introduces the ability to configure automations with multiple attached repos or no repos at all.

To take engineering tasks from start to finish, agents need a development environment similar to the setup on your laptop: cloned repositories, installed dependencies, credentials for internal toolchains, and access to build systems.

This release introduces new tools for teams to configure development environments for their agents. Cursor also can use these tools to set up and maintain environments for you. Together, this makes it easier for teams to run fleets of parallelized agents that handle tasks from end-to-end, inside development environments you fully control.

Multi-repo environments
Cloud agents and automations now support multi-repo environments, building off our work on multi-root workspaces. You can configure a single environment with all the repositories an agent needs for its work, with re-use across sessions.

Environment configuration as code
To make it easier to change, debug, and review environment definitions, we have improved Dockerfile-based configuration.
This includes support for build secrets, making it easy to securely access private package registries directly from your Dockerfiles. Build secrets are scoped to the build step and aren't passed to the running agent's environment.

We've also upgraded layer caching, so that only the updated layers of your image rebuild when you change the Dockerfile. Builds that hit the cache run 70% faster.

Improved agent-led environment setup
As Cursor configures your environment, it will ask you questions, flag missing credentials, and validate that your environment is set up properly.

Cursor will always show you the version of the environment your agent is running in. If your environment configuration fails, it will default to a base image with clear warning signs so that your cloud agents can keep running instead of immediately failing.

Every development environment now has its own version history that users can review and roll back. Admins can also restrict rollback permissions to admins only. An audit log captures every action team members take on environments, giving security teams full visibility into who changed what.

- Allow all: unrestricted network access within the sandbox

Admins on the Enterprise plan can enforce network allowlists and denylists from the admin dashboard, ensuring organization-wide egress policies apply to all agent sandbox sessions.

Previously, all subagents ran synchronously, blocking the parent agent until they complete. Subagents can now run asynchronously, allowing the parent to continue working while subagents run in the background.
Subagents can also spawn their own subagents, creating a tree of coordinated work. This allows Cursor to take on bigger tasks like multi-file features, large refactors, and challenging bugs.

We've also made some performance improvements to subagents since our last release. They now run with lower latency, better streaming feedback, and more responsive parallel execution.

Python and TypeScript LSPs now are faster by default for large projects with higher memory limits dynamically configured based on available RAM.
We've also fixed a number of memory leaks and improved overall memory usage.

You can now create reusable prompts and quickly share them with your team. Commands are stored in .cursor/commands/[command].md. Run them by typing / in the Agent input and selecting the command from the dropdown menu.
We've been using them for running linters, fixing compile errors, and creating PRs with detailed descriptions and conventional commits.

Summarization triggers
Cursor automatically summarizes long conversation for you when reaching the context window limit. You can now summarize context on-demand with the /summarize slash command. This can be useful when you don't want to create a new chat, but want to free up space in the context window.

MCP Resources support
We've added support for MCP Resources. Resources allow servers to share data that provides context to language models, such as files, database schemas, or application-specific information.
Additionally, interpolated variables are now supported for MCP. This enables using environment variables in strings when defining configuration for MCP servers.

Improved terminal for Agent
When Agent decides to create a terminal to run shell commands, we've dramatically improved the stability and reliability of the environment.
This solves known issues around terminal commands hanging and not properly exiting when completing tasks, as well as improving the SSH experience.
We've also polished the terminal UI, made it faster to run, and added OS notifications when shell commands require user approval.

Sending messages while Cursor is working now does a better job of steering the agent. Messages will run at the next ideal time, usually after a tool call, versus waiting until the generation completes. ⌥+Enter (Alt+Enter on Windows) will queue messages like before and ⌘+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows) will interrupt the agent to send the message immediately. The default behavior can be changed in Cursor Settings -> Chat -> Queue messages.

Improved Agent tools
Agents are significantly improved when operating across large codebases. Context selection is more relevant, token use is more efficient, and edit quality is higher:
- Read file: Now reads full files when appropriate and the 2MB cap is removed.
- List: Can now explore full directory trees in one call, with metadata like file counts and types.
- Grep: Improved matching with less noise.
- Codebase Search: Better ranking and indexing, leading to more relevant context.
- Web Search: Tuned for smaller, more relevant responses using a lightweight native model.
Separate models per Agent
You can now assign a different model to each Agent in separate tabs and editors. Forking an Agent preserves the selected model.

Usage and pricing visibility
Usage stats are now visible in Chat. You can see your usage either all time, or when you've exceeded 50% of your plan's quota.
This summary can be toggled in Settings. Team and Enterprise users will have access to the usage summary in September.

The agent breaks down longer tasks with dependencies, visible to you in chat and streamed into Slack when relevant. It can update this list as work progresses, keeping context fresh and interactions predictable.

You can now use an early preview of /edit in the chat! It's significantly faster at editing entire files than just using cmd-k. The /edit feature is currently only supported if you do not use your own API key, since it relies on non-public models.

Cursor 1.0 is here!
This release brings BugBot for code review, a first look at memories, one-click MCP setup, Jupyter support, and general availability of Background Agent.
Automatic code review with BugBot
BugBot automatically reviews your PRs and catches potential bugs and issues.
When an issue is found, BugBot leaves a comment on your PRs in GitHub. You can click "Fix in Cursor" to move back to the editor with a pre-filled prompt to fix the issue.

Background Agent for everyone
Since we released Background Agent, our remote coding agent, in early access a few weeks ago, early signals have been positive.
We're now excited to expand Background Agent to all users! You can start using it right away by clicking the cloud icon in chat or hitting Cmd/Ctrl+E if you have privacy mode disabled. For users with privacy mode enabled, we'll soon have a way to enable it for you too!

Agent in Jupyter Notebooks
Cursor can now implement changes in Jupyter Notebooks!
Agent will now create and edit multiple cells directly inside of Jupyter, a significant improvement for research and data science tasks. Only supported with Sonnet models to start.

Memories
With Memories, Cursor can remember facts from conversations and reference them in the future. Memories are stored per project on an individual level, and can be managed from Settings.
We're rolling out Memories as a beta feature. To get started, enable from Settings → Rules.

MCP one-click install and OAuth support
You can now set up MCP servers in Cursor with one click, and together with OAuth support, you can easily authenticate servers that support it.
We've curated a short list of official MCP servers you can add to Cursor at docs.cursor.com/tools.
If you're an MCP developer, you can easily make your server available to developers by adding a Add to Cursor button in your documentation and READMEs. Generate one at docs.cursor.com/deeplinks.

Richer Chat responses
Cursor can now render visualizations inside of a conversation. In particular, Mermaid diagrams and Markdown tables can now be generated and viewed in the same place!

New Settings and Dashboard
The setting and dashboard page have gotten some polish with this release.
With the new Dashboard, you can view your individual or team's usage analytics, update your display name, and view detailed statistics broken down by tool or model.

Cursor can now pick its own context, use the terminal, and complete entire tasks. To try it out, select "agent" in composer.

- Auto imports for Cursor Tab for TypeScript files - when Tab suggests an unimported symbol, we'll now auto-import it to your current file.
