[1.79.0] - 2026-09-09
The Drivers tab now shows whether Windows reports each driver as digitally signed. Until now the only clue
about where a driver came from was the Manufacturer column, and that name is a string the driver package
supplies about itself, so anyone can write anything in it. The new Signature column comes from Windows
instead. It stays blank when Windows reports nothing, because "Unsigned" is the kind of word someone acts
on and it must not stand in for "we do not know".
Added
- Drivers — a Signature column, read from Windows rather than from the driver. Win32_PnPSignedDriver,
the Windows source this tab already queried, is named for exactly this property, and the query selected
four others and dropped it. So the one tab that could answer "is this driver from who it claims?" was
answering it with Manufacturer, which the driver package fills in about itself. The column says "Signed"
or "Unsigned" and deliberately not "Safe": a signature identifies the publisher and nothing more, and
Windows will load a signed driver from anyone holding a valid certificate. There are three states rather
than two. A driver Windows says nothing about shows blank, and a test pins that absent never renders as
unsigned, because on this tab that reads as an accusation and sends someone hunting for a driver to remove.
Changed
- A query that fetches a property nothing reads now fails the build. The dropped IsSigned broke
nothing and failed nothing: the query worked, the parse worked, and the column that should have existed
simply did not exist. EveryPropertyACimQueryFetches_IsReadBackOut compares both directions over the
queries that return JSON — every property selected has to be parsed, and every property parsed has to be
selected — so deleting a value from a query fails as loudly as never reading one. The reverse direction is
the one that matters most: parse tests supply their own JSON, so they keep passing while the real query
quietly stops asking for the value.
Verify the download
Get-FileHash .\SysManager-v1.79.0.exe -Algorithm SHA256
Expected SHA256: DA6509C1F8F3A357E7C253AE5A341E61BEF9365F4F8E02F005A97A6B1A9404C3
This build is not code-signed, so Windows will warn on first launch. That is
expected for a small independent app: see what the warning says and what to
click.
Code signing is planned through the SignPath Foundation,
which provides free certificates to open-source projects, with signing performed by
SignPath.io. Until then, the SHA256 above and the build
attestation below are what establish that a download is the genuine build.
Code signing policy
This release is not code-signed. The team roles, release-approval process and
privacy policy required by the SignPath Foundation programme
are documented in advance under Code signing
policy. That
documentation is a prerequisite for applying, not evidence of a certificate. The
attribution line naming SignPath as the signing provider will appear here once a
certificate is actually issued.
This program will not transfer any information to other networked systems unless
specifically requested by the user or the person installing or operating it. Full
privacy policy.
Verify where this binary came from
This exe was built by GitHub Actions from this public source, and the build is
recorded in the Sigstore public transparency log. With the
GitHub CLI:
gh attestation verify .\SysManager-v1.79.0.exe --repo laurentiu021/SystemManager
That proves which commit and workflow produced this exact binary, something the
SHA256 file cannot show, since it is published alongside the exe it describes.
Each release also ships SysManager-v1.79.0.sbom.json, a CycloneDX inventory of
every dependency resolved for this build.https://github.com/laurentiu021/SystemManager/releases/tag/v1.79.0
