New Features
- In picture-frame mode on Linux and Windows, the menu bar no longer sits
on top of your photos. Rest the mouse along the top of the screen for a
moment and the menu slides in. Move the mouse away and it slides back
out. While a menu is open, it stays put. On a Mac, the menu bar is
unchanged.
- Help -> Privacy policy opens the installed build's policy in a scrollable
offline window, alongside Release Notes. Menu labels use the existing English
and German translations; the policy retains its published English text.
Bugfix
- Location Map now redraws immediately when opened with Shift+L and maximizes
the window when you enter or return to it.
- Menus and keyboard shortcuts now respect what you’re doing. When a dialog is
open, commands won’t change the photo behind it, and Copy and Select All work
on the text you’re editing. Actions that could interrupt copying a selected
part of a photo are temporarily disabled. Choosing an unavailable action also
leaves your selection intact.
- Keep Export/Delete keyboard focus on the prompt through Tab and checkbox
clicks, and release it on dismissal. Windows native qualification found
Escape swallowed by Export's checkbox or Delete's hidden panel; focused
regressions and native repeats verify the repair. See the
Windows evidence.
- Escape/Close Files now leave ordinary native maximization before restoring
the compact welcome window. Preserve fixed-size and Grid-owned restore
behavior. A native-boundary regression and repeated Linux desktop checks
cover the canvas/native size mismatch; fresh make verify and changed-file
GoLand inspections passed.
Internal
- Improve consistency when switching collections, opening Favorites, saving,
cancelling background work, and closing PicFetch. The completed architecture
cleanup also makes future changes easier to maintain.
- Stabilize the similarity protocol race test by dispatching its helper before
the test runner starts and bounding its lifetime from the parent. Preserve
configuration/error transport and cancellation/exit coverage. See the
diagnosis and verification record.

New Features
Explore your photos by where they were taken. Open Window -> Location Map
(Shift+L) to see photos with location information on an interactive map.
Nearby photos are grouped together: open a group to browse all its pictures,
then return to the same map position.
Use the arrow keys to select a photo or group, Enter to open it, and hold Shift
while pressing an arrow key to move around the map. Zoom with +/-, or press
0 to show all photo locations. The map matches your light or dark theme,
keeps photos visible while you drag it, and shows progress while checking for
duplicate photos.

Bugfix
- Location Map's background now matches your theme while loading or offline.
Parts of the map can appear even if another part fails to download, and the
current map stays visible while you drag to an area that is still loading.
- Returning to the map after viewing a photo or group now checks for changes to
the images and refreshes their locations. This also works for images from
sources that cannot report whether a file has changed.
- When a hidden duplicate provides a photo's location, the map preview now names
that duplicate. Opening the preview still shows the photo pictured on the card.
- Opening Location Map from visual-search results now closes the search grid and
shows locations from your loaded collection. Find more like this becomes
available again after you leave the photos opened from the map.
- Copy shortcuts used on the map no longer copy the image hidden behind it.
- Copy Selection works correctly in photos opened from the map. Escape clears
the selection before leaving the photo, and G clears it before opening Grid
View. Neither key interrupts a copy that is still finishing.
- Opening a group on the map now shows every photo in that group and clears any
previous selection, so an old selection cannot cause you to copy or delete
photos outside the group. Returning restores your previous Grid View filter
and selection.
- While photos are being checked for locations, the map adjusts its position at
most four times per second, reducing repeated downloads. Photo counts and
previews stay up to date; moving the map yourself still takes effect immediately,
as does the final adjustment when the scan finishes.
- Large groups of duplicate photos no longer delay cancellation. Cleaning up old
saved location data no longer causes long delays when leaving the map, and
quitting stops the remaining cleanup after any file operation already underway.
- Fixed how Location Map manages saved location information for Favorites when
the loaded photos change. Editing a photo while the map is open now preserves
its updated location information even if an earlier cleanup is still finishing.
- Reduced Location Map's memory use by storing only the photo details needed for
locations and limiting how much download information it keeps. Map images can
still appear when that extra information is too large to store. Map downloads
also no longer follow redirects to other web addresses.
- Dragging a selection box in Grid View now stays aligned with the pointer,
even when the selection controls or search progress change.
- In-app updates on macOS and Linux are now safer and clean up temporary files
left behind by interrupted updates.
- On Linux, applying a mosaic wallpaper keeps it on the monitor you selected,
even if another monitor is connected while the wallpaper is being prepared.
- File -> Close Files now remains available while your first collection is
loading or being sorted. Cancelling that work with Escape resets the menu correctly.
- Fixed "Reveal in file manager" on Linux for filenames containing commas.
Internal
- Added automated tests for Location Map, including repeated photos, unusually
large photo details, read-only images, saved location data, preview and map
position updates, overlapping image saves, and empty collections.
- Completed license notices for bundled fonts and Wi |

New Features
- delegate heic image rendering to the OS
Add back support for HEIC image formats, on start check if the system supports rendering of heic images. if yes save
that information to the settings so we don't have to check that on every launch. when the os does support the
rendering we delegate the rendering to the OS and enable HEIC support.
Bugfix
- Enable Windows HEIC decoding through installed Microsoft extensions, preserving
primary-image selection, EXIF orientation, metadata and transparency. Keep
decoder workers hidden and enforce memory, CPU and child-process limits.
- Refresh Explorer test fixtures after the HEIC analysis-facts version change.
- Restore macOS HEIC camera metadata and refresh previously cached image facts
without repeating similarity inference.
Internal
- Close the Windows/Store HEIC pre-release qualification items by maintainer
decision (2026-09-23). Native x64/ARM64 evidence, installed MSIX behavior,
codec installation/recheck recovery and final-package qualification are
accepted as deferred to the maintainer's testing after rollout. This records
acceptance of the deferral, not successful execution of the outstanding tests.
- Create a three-minute 1080p PicFetch feature promo with original electronic
music, Trane artwork, 22 animated scenes and verified media output. see the
production record.
- Accept Go build diagnostics in the native qualification runner while still
rejecting build failures and missing or skipped required tests.

New Features
- Added Help -> Licenses, showing the release's embedded third-party notices
as Markdown without an internet connection, including Store builds.
Bugfix
- License blocks now wrap and share the document's scroll surface, so mouse
wheel scrolling works over the text as well as the background.
Internal
- Expanded the AVIF/native/WASI notices with full reviewed license, patent and
attribution texts. Added pinned source/payload checks and release-archive
guards for both loose notices and the executable's embedded document.

New Features
- Help -> Release Notes shows the installed release's text offline and offers
a link to browse all older releases on GitHub. Menu and link labels are
available in English and German; notes retain their published language.
Markdown images load online without blocking the window; notes without
images start no image requests. The post-update What's New window reads
the same bundled release-notes file.
Bugfix
trane security superhero
- Windows Make targets automatically discover the existing portable MinGW
compiler under .tools/windows/mingw64/bin, including from fresh terminals.
- Fixed Windows analysis-cache validation rejecting Fyne's forward-slash paths:
Favorite representations can be reused and general representations can be
persisted. Native regression tests cover reopening and stale cleanup.

New Features
trane security superhero
- Security fixes and hardening
This release includes several security fixes and hardening improvements to make
PicFetch more resilient when handling malformed images and large collections.
Stronger validation and resource limits reduce the risk of excessive memory and
CPU use, while additional safeguards protect file saves, strengthen update
integrity, and tighten permissions in release workflows.
- Add Settings -> Limits -> Similarity Explorer with persisted 512 MB map-data
and 10,000-item defaults, configurable for larger libraries. Resource-limit
errors show wrapped toasts naming the setting location. Stream map snapshots
in bounded chunks with aggregate accounting instead of one large JSON event.
Bugfix
- Fix Linux clipboard copies staying busy after the helper forks its clipboard
owner, which also blocked Copy Image Path. Complete on launcher exit while
preserving bounded failure diagnostics and the running clipboard owner.
- Restore JPEG metadata removal for common EXIF/ICC color declarations and camera
chroma settings. Keep orientation and encoded image data without recompression,
while retaining structural validation, privacy checks and memory limits. Qualify
the standard optional sRGB profile fields found in the supplied camera JPEG.
- Bound RAW fallback JPEG parsing with one input-sized budget shared by header,
marker-fill and entropy traversal. Preserve ordinary multi-preview selection
and replace timing-dependent coverage with deterministic budget checks.
- Reject Save Changes through symlink leaves, preserving both the link and target
without copying image content into a different directory. Keep regular writes
at the selected filename and serialize parent-directory aliases.
- Authenticate staged updates with process-local seals, derive payload hashes
from verified archive bytes, and retain a write-denying Windows source handle
through installation.
- Bound ICO and SVG input processing, enforce WASM AVIF builds, and account for
GIF frame overhead before animation decoding; preserve static GIF fallback.
- Bound comparison decodes to half the shared image budget per pane and avoid
retaining animation frames that comparison never displays. Include 16-bit
pixel admission, actual cached-frame weights, localized refusals and the
corrected UI shard assignment.
- Bound Visual Similarity Explorer collection work and worker event decoding to
prevent attacker-controlled collections from exhausting CPU or viewer memory.
Internal
- Pin the TUF-root workflow's checkout/setup-go actions to verified v7 commits,
disable checkout credential persistence, and configure GitHub CLI authentication
before pushing. Focused TUF tests and stubbed publication paths pass; the live
scheduled write path is not exercised by PR CI.
- Pin the Qodana action to its reviewed commit, remove source-write permission
and automatic fix pushes, and disable persisted checkout credentials. Retain
PR comments, annotations and the Go linter's required project token.
- Windows signing qualification Completed. The Windows release-signing workflow uses the protected
release-signing environment, retains the verified local installer handoff,
and checks SIMPLYSIGN_INSTALLER_SHA256 and SIMPLYSIGN_SIGNER_THUMBPRINT
before installation.
