Turning off the startup update check now stays off, even when SysManager cannot read that setting for a
moment. A check that ran while the setting could not be read switched it back on for good.
Fixed
- About: "Check GitHub for a new version when SysManager starts" is no longer switched back on. When the
setting could not be read, it counted as on, the check ran, and recording that check wrote "on" back with
the time of the check, over the "off" the file held.
- Recording a check now writes nothing over a setting that could not be read. The check may still run that
once, since an unreadable setting counts as on, but the "off" survives it.
- A setting file that is damaged is kept as update-check.json.unreadable before a new one is written.
- Ticking or clearing the box still saves your choice even then: the only other thing the file holds is when
the last check ran.
Present since the startup check became optional in v1.58.0.

which provides free certificates to open-source projects, with signing performed by

attestation below are what establish that a download is the genuine build.

This release is not code-signed. The team roles, release-approval process and
privacy policy required by the SignPath Foundation programme
are documented in advance under Code signing
policy. That
documentation is a prerequisite for applying, not evidence of a certificate. The
attribution line naming SignPath as the signing provider will appear here once a
certificate is actually issued.
This program will not transfer any information to other networked systems unless
specifically requested by the user or the person installing or operating it. Full
privacy policy.
Verify where this binary came from
This exe was built by GitHub Actions from this public source, and the build is
recorded in the Sigstore public transparency log. With the
GitHub CLI:

That proves which commit and workflow produced this exact binary, something the
SHA256 file cannot show, since it is published alongside the exe it describes.
