| 3.0Darrera versió | 1 d’agost del 2026 | — | 64 bits ZIP Notes de la versióSaveState v3.0 — The Original Xbox Update
SaveState 3.0 is the largest and most ambitious release in the project's history.
After more than a year of research and development, SaveState can now back up and restore individual game saves directly from the virtual Xbox HDD used by xemu.
This release also introduces a complete rewrite of Linux save-path discovery, a redesigned multi-profile workflow, instant keyboard search, modern notifications, and major improvements to icon extraction.
What's New
Native xemu and Original Xbox Support
SaveState now officially supports xemu, the original Xbox emulator.
Unlike traditional backup methods that copy the entire virtual HDD, SaveState can locate, extract, and restore the data belonging to an individual Xbox title while leaving every other game on the HDD untouched.
- Direct FATX Access: SaveState can read and modify the FATX filesystem used by the original Xbox directly inside xemu's virtual HDD.
- Pure Python Implementation: The FATX and QCOW2 handling engine was built specifically for SaveState in pure Python, without external FATX libraries and without requiring or launching QEMU.
- Per-Game Backups: Only the selected game's save data is extracted instead of copying the complete Xbox HDD image.
- Surgical Restore: Backups can be written directly into the live xemu HDD without replacing or modifying unrelated titles.
- Guest-Aware Restoration: SaveState can restore data both to its original FATX layout and through safe cluster remapping when the destination HDD uses a different internal allocation.
- Preflight Validation: The HDD and backup archive are checked before any write operation begins.
- Restore Protection: Additional validation and undo safeguards reduce the risk of damaging the live Xbox HDD image.
- Dedicated Xemu Restore Interface: A new restore dialog displays the detected Xbox titles, available backups, destination HDD information, restore status, and external ZIP import options.
- Background Operations: Extraction and restoration run through dedicated workers so the interface remains responsive during large operations.
Despite the complexity of the new storage engine, the user workflow remains unchanged: simply drag and drop a xemu shortcut into SaveState. The Xbox HDD is detected automatically and the game-selection dialog opens immediately, allowing one or more profiles to be created.

Linux Save Discovery Engine Rewritten
Linux support had fallen behind the Windows version, so the heuristic save-path discovery engine has been almost completely rewritten.
The new engine provides significantly better detection across native Linux games, compatibility layers, alternative package formats, and non-standard installations.
- Improved Name Matching: New normalization, tokenization, abbreviation, fuzzy matching, and Roman/Arabic numeral handling improve detection for complex game titles.
- Proton Prefix Discovery: SaveState can locate and inspect Proton compatibility prefixes, including prefixes belonging to non-Steam games without a known Steam AppID.
- Expanded Steam Detection: Additional Steam layouts are now recognized, including Flatpak and Snap installations.
- Better Compatibility-Layer Support: Improved scanning for Proton, Wine, Heroic Games Launcher, Steam userdata, Flatpak, and Snap environments.
- Linux Desktop Shortcut Support: Dragging a .desktop file now allows SaveState to correctly read its executable, working directory, and display name.
- XDG Directory Support: Save discovery and displayed paths now respect XDG_DATA_HOME and XDG_CONFIG_HOME.
- Engine-Specific Detection: Expanded recognition of save structures used by engines and frameworks such as Ren'Py and Godot.
- Safer Directory Scanning: System folders, launcher roots, and unsafe installation directories are rejected before deep scanning begins.
- Reduced False Positives: Publisher matching, folder ranking, save-file evidence, traversal limits, and result scoring have all been refined.

| 2.9 | 14 de juliol del 2026 | — | 64 bits ZIP Notes de la versióSaveState v2.9 - Multi-Selection & Cloud Refinement
This major release introduces flexible multi-selection workflows, a complete structural overhaul for RetroArch core discovery, and critical infrastructure improvements for Google Drive authentication—specifically targeting Linux AppImage and handheld console compatibility.
What's New:
Google Drive Authentication & AppImage Compatibility
- Manual Callback Fallback: Enhanced OAuth authentication robustness by adding a manual callback URL input fallback. If a browser running on an isolated environment or handheld cannot reach the local port (localhost), users can now manually paste the authorization URL to complete the link.
- AppImage Directory Relocation: Credentials and tokens have been moved securely to the user's system app data directory. This resolves write-persistence limitations inherent to the AppImage mounting layer and automatically handles legacy token migration.
- Concurrency & Safety Locks: Implemented a dedicated threading lock to completely block concurrent authentication requests. Improved handling, UI timeout tracking, cancellation hooks, and automatic cleanup of background auth workers.
- Advanced Error Diagnostics: Added a structured tracking property (last_auth_error) to catch, preserve, and report descriptive troubleshooting logs directly within the interface during connection issues.
Advanced Multi-Selection & Header UI Overhaul
- Tristate Checkbox Headers: Replaced binary select-all buttons with a clean, space-saving tristate checkbox integrated directly into dialog headers. This provides a clear visual indicator for partial, full, or empty multi-selection states across lists.
- Bulk Profile Generation: List widgets for Ares, RetroArch, and generic emulator configurations now utilize ExtendedSelection. You can select dozens of games simultaneously and batch-import them into active profiles in a single click.
- Unified Selection Highlight Engine: Extracted selection styling rules out of local views and into a reusable utility module (selection_utils.py). All emulator list widgets now apply consistent highlighting behavior driven by a unified ProfileSelectionDelegate.
- Optimized Drag-and-Drop Workflow: Refactored the file dropping routine to gracefully handle multiple shortcuts and game directories at once, skipping duplicate profile names automatically and silencing repetitive alert popups.
Robust RetroArch Save & Core Architecture Parsing
- Unsorted Core Detection: Introduced full support for unstructured environments (RETROARCH_UNSORTED_CORE_ID), enabling the scanner to accurately map, read, and merge flat save structures residing directly in the root directory rather than within distinct core subfolders.
- Expanded Path Discovery: Upgraded configuration tracking (retroarch.cfg) to look through a much wider sequence of default installation paths on Windows, extending coverage across AppData, LocalAppData, and Microsoft Store deployment footprints.
- Max Depth Traversal Safeguards: Replaced generic directory loops with a dedicated recursive explorer (_iter_files_recursive) governed by strict depth thresholds, calculating exact file distributions and constructing game listings without causing scan loops to hang.

| 2.8.1 | 8 de juliol del 2026 | — | 64 bits ZIP Notes de la versióSaveState v2.8.1 - Polishing & Quality of Life
This minor release focuses on refining the automation features introduced in v2.8. It enhances the user experience (UX), optimizes Steam integration, upgrades process tracking, and unifies the visual styling across the application.
What's New:
Steam Integration & Advanced Process Picker
- Steam Cloud Status Integration: The application now queries the Steam Store API to verify if a game supports cloud saves, utilizing a local JSON cache to maintain performance. This status is displayed directly in the UI using clear visual icons.
- Non-Game Filtering: Automatically excludes Steam runtimes, redistributables, and dedicated servers from the app list to keep your profile selection focused purely on playable games.
- Smart Process Picker: Enhanced the auto-backup process picker to aggregate active processes. It now sorts applications by resource utilization (GPU memory first, then RAM, then CPU) and applies an expanded blacklist to filter out unneeded system processes.
Automation & UX Refinements
- Minimize to Tray & Auto-Backup Integration: Improved the handler for the "Minimize to tray on close" setting. If you attempt to turn off tray persistence while automatic backup profiles are active, a contextual prompt will warn you to prevent background routines from breaking.
- Standardized Menus: Unified and standardized the configuration option menus for FTP, Git, and WebDAV providers to ensure a consistent configuration experience.
- Path Updates: Updated default configuration directory paths for DuckStation to ensure better accuracy during setup.
UI & Graphical Polish
- Unified Button Styling: Standardized all save buttons across various dialogs with a new consistent design and a clear green accent color.
- New Profile Illustrations: Added visual illustrations to the Auto Backup and Overrides sections of the profile editor. These assets are fully hooked into the theme switcher to refresh dynamically when changing themes.
- Asset Optimization: Resized oversized PNG assets to reduce file overhead and optimize UI rendering performance.

| 2.7.1 | 10 de juny del 2026 | — | 64 bits ZIP Notes de la versió# SaveState v2.7.1 - The "Gotta Go Fast" Update
This hotfix focuses entirely on under-the-hood performance, drastically reducing the application's
startup time through a complete import restructuring.
## Changelog:
### Startup Time Optimization (Lazy-loading)
- Deferred Cloud API Initialization: Google Drive modules (google_drive_manager) are now loaded
on-demand only when interacting with cloud features, removing the main startup bottleneck.
- Deferred GUI & Worker Imports: Heavy interface elements, dialogs, emulator managers (like PCSX2),
and the update manager's requests module have been moved inside their respective functions or
dedicated threads. The main interface now opens almost instantly.
### Dependency Management & Resilience
- Dynamic Windows Module Detection: winshell and pywin32 imports are no longer mandatory at module
startup. The app now uses importlib.util to check for library availability and loads them
locally only when needed (e.g., during desktop shortcut creation).
- Crash Prevention: The absence or corruption of optional external libraries will no longer cause
sudden application crashes on launch, making SaveState much more robust. |
