| 1.8.2 | 18 de maig del 2026 | — | 64 bits MSI Notes de la versióRelease Notes 1.8.2
Execra got a big upgrade. It's the Rust job runtime behind every install, update, cleanup, and scan, and rScoop now reads what Scoop is doing far more faithfully. You get clearer messages, real reasons when something fails, smoother progress, and notifications that match.
Messages that say what's actually happening
- Scoop's output now runs through a real interpreter. Phases, progress, warnings, errors, success lines, and post-install notes are each recognized for what they are instead of guessed from line coloring.
- When something fails, it tells you why. You get "hash mismatch", "no manifest for X", "admin rights required", or "download failed" without having to open the raw output modal.
- Partial-success cases are surfaced as warnings you can act on. That covers "already installed", "held to a fixed version", cache ignored, and missing hashes, none of which are treated as a clean success or a hard failure anymore.
- Post-install notes from packages are captured and shown, so setup steps don't slip past you.
Progress that actually moves
- Long opaque steps show steady motion instead of a frozen bar. Verifying a multi-GB download, extracting a big archive, and Scoop's own self-update all qualify.
- The bar fills continuously across the pipeline rather than snapping back at each step. The moment a real signal is available, it takes over.
Consistent status and notifications
- Every operation ends as success, warning, or error. That state is now the same in the operation bar, the modal, completed history, and the Windows toast.
- Operation-state handling was consolidated internally. A class of stale-UI and double-update glitches around chained and background work is gone.
Under the hood
- The interpreter, the progress filler, and the error fallback now live in Execra as reusable, unit-tested components. That removed roughly 780 lines of bespoke plumbing from rScoop.
- None of Scoop's behavior changed. Only the machinery around it got better. |
| 1.8.1 | 13 de maig del 2026 | — | 64 bits MSI Notes de la versióRelease Notes 1.8.1
This release focuses on reliability: safer cleanup, more accurate operation status, better cancellation, and fresher package data after installs, updates, and scans.
The biggest internal change is the move to Execra, an Apache-2.0-licensed Rust crate maintained as part of the rScoop project. Execra now handles the long-running jobs behind installs, updates, cleanup, and VirusTotal scans, so rScoop can track real process state instead of relying on custom PowerShell plumbing. For users, that means fewer stale UI states, clearer warnings, and cancellation that actually stops the underlying work.
Safer cache cleanup
- Doctor's "Outdated Cache" cleanup now removes only stale cache downloads: packages that are no longer installed, or cached versions that do not match the installed version.
- Cache Manager still supports selected-file and full safe-cache deletion, but Doctor cleanup no longer behaves like "clear everything".
- Cleanup output is now streamed into the operation log with deleted-file counts and explicit per-file failures instead of silently swallowing partial errors.
- Automatic cleanup now uses the same version-aware cache cleanup path as Doctor, so background cleanup and manual cleanup behave consistently.
Better operation handling
- rScoop now runs Scoop, cleanup, update, and VirusTotal jobs through Execra, the new Rust runtime behind background operations.
- Running operations now carry their real job id, so cancelling an active install/update/scan kills the underlying process instead of only updating frontend state.
- Operation results now have a status: success, warning, or error. This lets the UI distinguish "completed, but pay attention" from a clean success.
- Scoop's "Running process detected, skip updating" case is now surfaced as a warning instead of a successful update. The operation bar, modal, completed history, and background toast all use the warning state.
- VirusTotal scans now use the same operation pipeline as other jobs, with exit-code mapping for detections and missing API keys.
Faster, less stale package data
- Search now caches parsed manifests and binary aliases, not just manifest paths. Warm searches avoid re-reading and re-parsing every JSON file.
- Manifest cache invalidation now uses the configured Scoop path instead of a fallback path, so bucket changes refresh the right cache.
- Installed-package refresh after operations now reloads package data, holds, updates, and versioned package state together without forcing the heavier cold-start refetch path.
- Cold-start readiness events were simplified to global events with shorter retry timing, reducing duplicate listener work during launch.
Bucket and scheduler fixes
- Bucket install/update/remove now resolve paths from the app's configured Scoop path.
- Adding or removing buckets immediately refreshes the search manifest cache.
- The background bucket updater now uses the same configured app state and records per-bucket output in the operation log.
- Automatic package updates now run through the same Scoop operation path as manual updates, including auto-cleanup afterward.
UI polish
- Operation warnings now render with warning icons and warning-colored status text in the operation bar, modal, hover history, and log viewer footer.
- The installed page status button now shows a neutral state before any status check, success when everything is OK, and warning when Scoop reports issues.
- Long package names in the installed grid truncate cleanly instead of crowding action icons.
Internal cleanup
- Removed the old PowerShell command wrapper and update helper modules after moving process execution to Execra.
- Updated Rust/Tauri dependency versions and registered the Execra Tauri plugin in the backend. |

The portable profile release. Export your entire setup, carry it to another machine, and pick up right where you left off.
Profile export & import
- New Settings > Management section: export your installed apps, buckets, held packages, Scoop config, and rScoop preferences to a portable JSON file. Import it on a fresh machine and everything comes back — buckets get cloned, apps queue in the background, settings merge in.
- Pluggable groups — full profile, Scoop-compatible (apps + buckets only for the CLI crowd), just preferences, or hand-pick exactly what travels.
- Import preview scans the file before you commit, tells you what's inside, and shows warnings if anything looks off. Import is strictly additive: nothing gets uninstalled.
- Profiles are plain versioned JSON. Diffable, stashable in dotfiles repos, safe to hand-edit.
Background operations now the default
- New installs have "run in background" turned on out of the box. Install something, keep browsing, the progress bar at the bottom keeps you posted. Manual toggle still available in Settings > Automation.
Reliability
- Bucket auto-update scheduler no longer silently resets to "off" after app restarts. Bucket and operations settings are now synced from localStorage to the Rust backend on every launch, so the scheduler always knows your interval.
- Removed unused code in the bucket parser. Build warning gone.
- Pinned the MSVC toolchain in src-tauri/ to avoid a MinGW linker crash at the build stage.
Docs get the love they needed
- Every page in the user guide has been rewritten or refreshed: Settings now documents all six tabs, the tray launcher, export/import, and language picker. Architecture page covers the new profile flow and the operations queue. Getting Started has a migration section for new-machine setup.
Changes
- New Rust commands: export_profile, inspect_profile, import_profile, save_profile_file, read_profile_file_at
- Frontend: Export & Import modals, group picker component, file picker integration
- i18n: 50+ new English translation keys for the export/import UI
- Scheduler: startup sync for auto-update settings, Background operations default changed to true
- Docs: Updated settings page (all 6 tabs), added profile section, migration guide, tray menu, language settings
- Build: rust-toolchain.toml pins x86_64-pc-windows-msvc, removed unused struct |
| 1.7.2 | 18 d’abril del 2026 | — | 64 bits MSI Notes de la versióRelease Notes 1.7.2
Big quality-of-life release. The theme: rscoop does more for you when the window isn't even open.
Tray menu you can actually customize
- New Settings > Tray Menu tab. Pin your favorite Scoop apps to the top, hide the ones you never launch from the tray, and see a live preview of the result.
- Apps show their real icons pulled from the exe, so your tray reads like a proper launcher instead of a wall of text.
- Right-clicking the tray and hitting "Edit Tray Menu..." jumps you straight to that settings tab. Works even if rscoop is fully minimized.
- Full details: #38
Operations keep running in the background
- Start an install or update, close the window, walk away. The UI tears down when you close to tray (freeing 100+ MB of WebView memory), but your install queue, current operation, and output history live in Rust now, so they survive the window going away. Queue up five installs, minimize, come back later and find them all done.
- Desktop notifications are new. When an operation finishes while rscoop isn't visible, Windows tells you. Toasts carry contextual action buttons: "Clear Cache" after uninstalls (when auto-clear is off), "Install Anyway" when a VirusTotal scan flags something. You can respond without reopening the app.
- If you have close-to-tray disabled and hit X while an install is running, you now get a confirmation dialog instead of silently killing the operation.
- Full details: #37
Translations
- rscoop is now on Crowdin. If you use it in a non-English language and something reads awkwardly, you can fix it yourself at crowdin.com/project/rscoop.
- Thanks to @Kwensiu, Simplified Chinese is newly available in the language picker. |

Internationalization
- Full i18n support. Every user-facing string in the app goes through a translation system.
- German translation included out of the box.
- Language picker in Settings > Window & UI.
- Community translations via Crowdin. No coding needed to contribute a translation.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed Scoop installation detection. The app now correctly detects whether it was installed via Scoop and disables the built-in updater accordingly. Previously this check was always false. |

Background Operations Queue
Install, update, and uninstall packages without waiting. Operations run in the background while you keep browsing.
- Send to background. Click "Background" in the operation modal or just click away from it. The operation keeps running behind a progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Operation queue. Start multiple installs back to back. They queue up and run one at a time. The progress bar shows what's running and how many are waiting.
- Live history. Hover the progress bar to see completed and queued operations. Click any completed/running operation to view its full terminal output.
- Batch summary. When a queue finishes: "All operations completed. 3 succeeded, 1 failed" with per-operation logs accessible.
- Auto clear cache on uninstall. New toggle in Settings > Automation. When enabled, cache is cleared automatically as part of the uninstall (no extra button click). The progress bar stays active until both finish.
- Background by default. New toggle in Settings > Automation. When enabled, all operations start minimized to the progress bar. VT scans still show the modal since they need your input.
- Button feedback. Install and Uninstall buttons briefly flash green with "Queued" to confirm the action registered, especially useful when running in background mode.
- Single global modal. One operation modal for the whole app instead of one per page. No more race conditions if you navigate during an install.
UI Overhaul
- Settings pages tightened up across the board. Inputs are smaller, alert boxes replaced with inline text, save buttons show "Saved" briefly instead of toast notifications. Consistent sizing and spacing everywhere.
- VirusTotal settings: API key input has a show/hide toggle, enters to save, no more label above the input.
- Scoop Configuration: same input treatment, removed the bulky alert boxes.
- Held Packages: shorter title, quieter empty state, tighter list rows.
- Auto Cleanup: replaced the full-width range slider with a compact +/- stepper for versions to keep. Sub-settings are flat rows instead of nested cards.
- Bucket Auto Update: replaced the three full-width radio cards with a segmented button group (Off / 24h / 7d / Custom). Custom interval is a single inline row. Auto-update packages toggle pulled into the same card.
- About page: tagline rewritten, update check is now a centered ghost button instead of a bordered card, link buttons (GitHub, Docs, Star) are small ghost buttons instead of loud outlined ones.
Doctor Page
- System Cleanup: buttons are outlined and smaller, not big colored blocks.
- Cache Manager: "Remove Selected" only appears when something is selected, action buttons are ghost-styled, filter input sized down, empty state is a one-liner.
- Shim Manager: same treatment. Add Shim button is ghost, filter input matches, empty state simplified.
Buckets Page
- Bucket cards: whole card is clickable (removed separate View button), git URL removed from cards, branch shown as plain text, Update button on the same line as the date.
- Bucket updates don't flicker anymore: refreshes after update are silent. The RefreshCw icon spins on the card being updated.
- Green flash on new manifests: after an update, cards that got new packages show a faint green overlay that waits until you scroll to it, then fades out.
- Search result cards: whole card clickable for details, Install/Remove buttons moved to the stats row, removed the date and Details button.
- Community buckets modal: cut in half. One paragraph, two filter rows, smaller modal.
- Grid header: "Add Custom Bucket" and "Update All Git Buckets" shortened and ghost-styled.
Debug Modal
- Log viewer syntax coloring: log lines are color-coded by level (ERROR red, WARN yellow, INFO green, DEBUG blue, TRACE gray, markers purple). Auto-scrolls to bottom.
- Fingerprint display: rendered as individual pills with app name in accent blue and timestamps dimmed.
Operation Modal

| 1.5.0 | 30 de març del 2026 | — | 64 bits MSI Notes de la versióRelease Notes 1.5.0
New Features
- Versioned Install Support: Install specific versions of any package directly from the UI using scoop's @version syntax (e.g. speedtest@1.14.197). A version input field is now available next to the Install button in package details.
- Custom Bucket Support: Add any git repository as a custom bucket via the new "Add Custom Bucket" button on the Buckets page. Just paste a URL and go.
Improvements
- Version Switcher Visibility: The version switcher now auto-loads and appears directly in the package info modal for any package with multiple versions, no more hunting through the three-dot menu.
- Instant Search from Tray: The manifest cache now re-warms when restoring the app from the system tray, so search is instant even after long idle periods.
- Smarter Auto-Cleanup: Version cleanup now sorts numerically instead of lexicographically (so 148.0 correctly sorts after 9.0), always preserves the active version, and properly syncs cleanup settings between the UI and backend.
- PowerShell Compatibility Fix: Fixed a long-standing issue where certain scoop operations (especially versioned installs) would silently fail when launched from the app. Root cause: -NoProfile prevented PowerShell from loading core modules.
Code Quality
- Removed duplicate git credential callback logic
- Extracted shared is_valid_bucket helper across install, uninstall, manifest, and virustotal commands
- Replaced potential panic points (unwrap/expect) with proper error handling across bucket_install, powershell, state, and scheduler modules
- Fixed event listener leak in the header component |
