## Radius v0.61.1

This patch fixes an issue where the deployment engine created Kubernetes resources even when their Bicep conditions evaluated to `false`, causing unwanted resources such as HorizontalPodAutoscalers to remain in the cluster after `rad app delete` completed successfully. Check out the [changelog](#changelog) for more details of what was addressed in this patch.

## Changelog

• Honor Bicep conditions for Kubernetes resources and other resources handled through extensibility providers. Resources whose conditions evaluate to `false` are now skipped without invoking their providers, while dependent resources can continue deploying. This prevents unwanted, untracked resources from being created and left behind after application deletion.

## Announcing Radius v0.61.0

Today we're happy to announce the release of Radius v0.61.0. Check out the [highlights](#highlights) below, along with the [full changelog](#full-changelog) for more details.

We would like to extend our thanks to all the [new](#new-contributors) and existing contributors who helped make this release possible!

## Intro to Radius

If you're new to Radius, check out our website, [radapp.io](https://radapp.io), for more information. Also visit our [getting started guide](https://docs.radapp.io/getting-started/) to learn how to install Radius and create your first app.

## Highlights

### Updates to extensible Radius resources

This release adds more support for managing `Radius.Core` resources:`rad resource list --preview` can now list preview environments and applications; `rad env create` and `rad env update --preview` can reference a Recipe Pack in another resource group; and each `Radius.Core` environment must use a unique Kubernetes namespace. Deleting a preview environment now also deletes its applications and resources, rather than leaving them behind.

`rad deploy` now warns when a template uses the older `Applications.*` resource types and suggests the corresponding `Radius.*` replacements where available. Support for the old types will be removed in an upcoming release, so use the warning to migrate your templates. The deployment continues normally in this release.

### Deploy templates directly from HTTPS URLs

`rad deploy` now supports deploying Bicep and ARM JSON templates hosted at HTTPS URLs. Radius validates the URL, resolves relative Bicep module references from the remote template’s location, and redacts URL credentials from command output. See [#12676](https://github.com/radius-project/radius/pull/12676) for details.

### Share secrets between connected resources

Connections to Recipe-backed resources can now provide both ordinary values and references to producer-managed secrets. Radius stores Recipe secret outputs in managed `Radius.Security/secrets` resources and makes references available to consuming Recipes without decrypting or exposing secret values. See [#12709](https://github.com/radius-project/radius/pull/12709) for details.

### More services in the default Kubernetes Recipe Pack

The default Kubernetes Recipe Pack now includes PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, and Redis, expanding the backing services that can be deployed without configuring a custom Recipe Pack. You can [download the pack manually](https://github.com/radius-project/resource-types-contrib/tree/main/recipe-packs/kubernetes) and use it. Automatic install of this recipe pack via `rad init` is still in progress.

### Live deployment progress for Radius Canvas

Radius deploy workflows now publish rotating deployment-progress snapshots that Radius Canvas can use to display resource status while a deployment is running. The snapshots redact environment-variable values and are retained for one day. See [#12727](https://github.com/radius-project/radius/pull/12727) for details.

### Prevent resource-name collisions between applications

Recipe-created cloud resources are now named using their application and environment, preventing separate applications or environments from accidentally sharing the same resource. This avoids conflicts during deployment and helps protect resources from being changed or deleted by another application. See [[#12987](https://github.com/radius-project/radius/pull/12987)](https://github.com/radius-project/radius/pull/12987) for details.

## Breaking changes

This change affects you only if you used Radius’s older Kubernetes onboarding features for your application workloads. It does **not** remove support for running Radius on Kubernetes or affect workloads that don’t rely on these features.

If you applied a Kubernetes manifest that creates a **`Recipe` custom resource in your cluster**, Radius will no longer act on that object to provision backing services or refresh generated connection Secr

Announcing Radius v0.59.0
Today we're happy to announce the release of Radius v0.59.0. Check out the highlights below, along with the full changelog for more details.
We would like to extend our thanks to all contributors who helped make this release possible!
Intro to Radius
If you're new to Radius, check out our website, radapp.io, for more information. Also visit our getting started guide to learn how to install Radius and create your first app.
Highlights
Radius Resource Types for compute platform extensibility
> Note:the new Radius.Core/* Resource Types are actively under development and only available now as an early and sparsely documented preview. You may try the features by using the --preview flag in relevant CLI commands, please refer to the rad CLI reference for more details.
CLI support for the new Radius.Core resource types
Radius is introducing a new set of resource types under the Radius.Core namespace (e.g., Radius.Core/applications, Radius.Core/environments) that will eventually replace the existing Applications.Core types. These new types are available via the v20250801preview API surface and represent the next generation of Radius's resource model.
Currently, CLI commands like rad app list and rad app graph operate on the existing Applications.Core/applications type, meaning that applications deployed using the new Radius.Core/applications type were invisible to the CLI. The added --preview flag directs commands to operate against Radius.Core resources:
• rad app graph --preview and rad app status --preview — View the application graph and check status for apps deployed as Radius.Core/applications. (#11983)
• rad workspace create --preview — Create workspaces that use Radius.Core/environments, so you can pair them with the new resource types. (#11905)
Kubernetes namespace for Radius.Core environments
Previously, environments created with the Application.Core/environments created a new Kubernetes namespace on behalf of the user. We found that this approach was not representative of enterprise scenarios where namespace creation is managed by the cluster admins. New Radius.Core/environments require you to explicitly pass the Kubernetes namespace you want to use for application deployments, falling back to 'default' if none is specified.
Default Contour Gateway for route recipes
Radius now sets up Gateway API infrastructure automatically when Contour is installed. rad install kubernetes creates a shared GatewayClass/contour and Gateway/radius in radius-system, and the default Radius.Compute/routes recipe is pre-configured to attach route resources to this managed Gateway. Applications no longer need to define their own gateway resource in the default path.
Deprecation warning for rad run with extensible environments
The rad run command is not supported for environments configured with the new extensible Radius.Core/environments model and is planned for deprecation. rad run depends on Kubernetes-specific behaviors (including log streaming and port forwarding), making it incompatible with the platform-agnostic design of the new architecture, where compute runtimes can extend beyond Kubernetes. Instead, use rad deploy and rely on the native tooling of your chosen compute platform to access logs and establish connectivity.
Bug Fixes
• Fixed Helm chart Terraform binary path mismatch:The pre-mounted Terraform binary path in the Helm chart didn't match what the runtime expected, causing Radius to silently re-download Terraform from releases.hashicorp.com on every cold start. Now the paths are aligned and the pre-mounted binary is used correctly.
• Fixed recipe pack OCI tags:Core resource type recipes now use the full semantic version (e.g., 0.58.0) for OCI tags instead of the version channel (e.g., 0.40), aligning with the kube-recipes publishing pipeline.
• Aligned rad env create and rad env update flags:rad env create now supports cloud provider flags (--azure-subscription-id, --aws-region, etc.) and rad env update

Announcing Radius v0.58.0
Today we're happy to announce the release of Radius v0.58.0. Check out the Breaking changes below, along with the full changelog for more details.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the new and existing contributors who helped make this release possible!
Intro to Radius
If you're new to Radius, check out our website, radapp.io, for more information. Also visit our getting started guide to learn how to install Radius and create your first app.
Breaking changes
In order to increase transparency, rad init no longer creates .rad/rad.yaml, and the rad CLI no longer uses .rad/rad.yaml to implicitly determine the current application. Commands that previously worked because an application name was silently read from that file, including rad run and some other app-scoped commands, may now fail unless the application is provided explicitly, for example with --application <name> or the command's positional application argument where supported.

Radius v0.56.1
This release addresses issues with the dashboard and the Radius install script.
Fix for the Radius dashboard
The Radius dashboard fixes a previously seen 401 Unauthorized error.
Installer now detects stale CLI binaries on PATH
The install scripts (install.sh and install.ps1) now scan all PATH directories and display a highly visible warning when an existing rad binary is found in a different location than the new install directory. This prevents a common issue where users end up with two versions of the CLI installed — with the older, stale version taking priority — after the default install directory changed from /usr/local/bin to ~/.local/bin for non-root users.
Check out the changelog for more details of what was addressed in this patch.

Announcing Radius v0.55.0
Today we're happy to announce the release of Radius v0.55.0. Check out the highlights below, along with the full changelog for more details.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the new and existing contributors who helped make this release possible!
Intro to Radius
If you're new to Radius, check out our website, radapp.io, for more information. Also visit our getting started guide to learn how to install Radius and create your first app.
Highlights
Sensitive data management
Radius v0.55.0 introduces built-in sensitive data management. You can now mark resource properties as sensitive using the new x-radius-sensitive annotation in your Resource type definitions. Radius encrypts these values and redacts them during deployments. Check out the secret.yaml for an example on how to use this feature.
Fixed environment resource type deployment
Previously, rad deploy failed when deploying Bicep templates containing an
Environment resource type unless the Environment was pre-created or specified via a CLI flag. Environment resources can now be deployed without requiring pre-creation through the CLI.
CLI Fixes
- rad app graph --output json and rad version --output json now returns valid JSON
- rad rollback kubernetes --list-revisions now shows correct revision timestamps
Dashboard now displays resource types with API versions other than 2023-20-01-preview
Fixed an issue where the Dashboard failed to display custom resource types that use API versions other than 2023-20-01-preview. The Dashboard now dynamically selects the supported API version for the resource type and displays it.
Breaking changes
None.

Highlights
Fixed rad workspace show errors when no current workspace exists
The rad workspace show command was updated to provide a more user-friendly experience when no workspace is currently set. Instead of returning an error, the command now logs an informational message to guide the user. See the CLI docs for more details.
Fixed rad credential show azure command
Previously, the rad credential show azure command would always throw an error due to a nil pointer dereference when attempting to display Azure Service Principal credentials. This has been fixed so that the command will now successfully display Azure credentials that you've configured for Radius.
Breaking changes
None.

Highlights
Contour ingress controller installation re-enabled
Thanks to the newly available Contour Helm Charts, Radius has re-enabled installation of the Contour ingress controller during rad install kubernetes or rad init. This means that you no longer need to manually install and configure a Contour ingress controller before deploying Gateway resources.
Improved Environment deletion experience
The rad env delete command has been enhanced to make Environment cleanup safer and more transparent. It will now show different prompts for deleting empty vs. populated Environments to help users understand what will be deleted. Furthermore, progress messages during deletion operations have been added to provide clearer progress information during the deletion process.

Announcing Radius v0.51.0
Today we're happy to announce the release of Radius v0.51.0. Check out the highlights below, along with the full changelog for more details.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the contributors who helped make this release possible!
Intro to Radius
If you're new to Radius, check out our website, radapp.io, for more information. Also visit our getting started guide to learn how to install Radius and create your first app.
Highlights
Purge behavior updated for uninstall command
The existing --purge flag for rad uninstall kubernetes has been updated. When this flag is now specified in the command, all Kubernetes resources created by Radius, including resources created as a part of application deployments, will be deleted. For more information, please refer to the CLI documentation.
Progress status feedback added to application deletion command
The rad app delete command has been updated to show deletion progress and confirmation summary in the console output. This fix addresses a usability concern where app deletion operations that take a bit more time make it look like the CLI is frozen. For more information, please refer to the CLI documentation
ACI deployments now use dynamic resource group location
Previously, when deploying ACI resources, Radius used a hardcoded WestUS3 location as that was one of the first locations to have the ACI NGroups feature available. This has been fixed where the resource group's location is now dynamically retrieved and used throughout the ACI Environment creation and resource deployment process. See the how-to guide for more information on deploying to ACI using Radius.
Breaking changes
Contour ingress controller installation disabled
Radius no longer automatically installs the Contour ingress controller during rad install kubernetes or rad init. This change is due to Bitnami's deprecation of their public container registry, which affects the availability of Contour images.
Applications that rely on Radius Gateway resources for ingress functionality will need to manually install and configure a Contour ingress controller before deploying Gateway resources. For more information on how to install Contour, please consult the Contour documentation. Note that Contour may not have updated their documentation yet given the recency of this issue, so we'd also recommend consulting their community discussion on this matter.
This change is temporary while we evaluate alternative ingress controller options and repository sources.
Upgrading to Radius v0.51.0
You can upgrade to this release by upgrading your Radius CLI then running rad upgrade kubernetes. Only incremental version upgrades are supported. Consult the upgrade documentation for full details.

Intro to Radius
If you're new to Radius, check out our website, radapp.io, for more information. Also visit our getting started guide to learn how to install Radius and create your first app.
Highlights
Introducing in-place upgrades
Radius can now be upgraded using the new rad upgrade command. The new command upgrades the Radius control plane while preserving existing environments and applications. There is also a rad rollback command. Read more in the Radius documentation.
Enhancements to Radius resource types
Properties on Radius resource types can now be arrays of objects. You can also now specify an enum type to validate inputs prior to deployment.
The YAML file schema for resource type definitions changed. name is now namespace. For example, when you use rad resource-type create -f types.yaml to create a new resource type, the types.yaml file must have namespace: Radius.Resources rather than name: Radius.Resources on line one.
Offline installation
Radius can now be installed in an offline environment using the rad install command or via the Helm chart by setting location of the Radius containers via the global.imageRegistry and global.imageTag parameters.
Breaking changes
The name property in resource type definition YAML file is now namespace. See the Radius resource type section above for details.
Upgrading to Radius v0.50.0
You can upgrade to this release by upgrading your Radius CLI then running rad upgrade kubernetes. Only incremental version upgrades are supported. Consult the upgrade documentation for full details.

Highlights
Radius Resource Types (RRT) Enhancements
Radius Resource types Connection
Connection support between RRT->RRT is now available. For example, when connecting a Radius.Resources/webServices resource to a Radius.Resources/postgreSQL resource, the PostgreSQL properties are now included in the Recipe's context object. This makes it easier for platform engineers to reference these properties for creating secrets in Recipes.
rad resource-type create
The [rad resource-type create] (https://docs.radapp.io/reference/cli/rad_resource-type_create/) command now supports creating all specified resource types in the yaml definition at once.
Multiple API versions
RRTs now support multiple API versions. You can now version your custom resource types with the current date of your choice 2025-07-18-preview following the required format YYYY-MM-DD-preview
Capabilities Improvements
- The capabilities: ["SupportsRecipes"] property is deprecated and the Recipe support is enabled by default.
- Introduced capabilities: ["manualResourceProvisioning"] to support externally provisioned resources. This lets developers connect to resources outside of Radius, while platform engineers expose them via RRTs without needing Recipes.
Contour Ingress Controller support
You now have full control over Contour during Kubernetes installation with rad install kubernetes:
- Use --contour-disabled to skip installing the Contour ingress controller.
- Use --contour-chart to install from a custom Helm chart. More information [here]https://docs.radapp.io/reference/cli/rad_install_kubernetes/)

Highlights
Radius Resource Types
Radius now enables Platform Engineers to define custom Resource Types for use by developers within their enterprise. This is a major step forward, giving platform engineers much greater control over the specific implementation and deployment of cloud resources. Resource Types also make it dramatically easier for developers to follow best practices for security, compliance, and cost management. With Resource Types, developers work with higher-level, familiar abstractions defined by their organization, simplifying workflows and reducing cognitive load. Check out the tutorials to create a PostgreSQL resource type and to create a composite Recipe for a web service resource type.

Highlights
rad version command now also displays control plane version
The rad version command in the Radius CLI has been updated to display both the CLI version on your machine and the control plane version running in your cluster. This change aims to provide clearer information for users to keep track of versions of the different Radius tools they have installed.
Gateway Route timeouts configuration
A timeoutPolicy object has been added to the routes property in the Gateway resource, allowing users to configure custom timeout settings for their Gateway routes. This change offers improved control over request handling to enhance application performance, e.g. adding flexibility for accommodating long-running HTTP calls. For more details, please see the updated Gateway resource reference.
Deploy Radius applications to Azure Container Instances (ACI)
Support for deploying applications to Azure Container Instances (ACI) is now available. You can now use Radius to provision an ACI compute environment then, without needing to modify your app definition, deploy applications and containers to the ACI environment. Radius provisions on your behalf all the necessary Azure infrastructure required to run your application. To try this feature, check out the ACI how-to guide.

Highlights
Removed dependencies on Dapr and PostgreSQL
In previous releases, dependencies on Dapr and PostgreSQL were added which meant that containers for both were instantiated alongside the Radius control plane at install time. These were added in preparation for the external datastore features that have been in development. However, these dependencies have been found to break the Radius installation process in some scenarios. Thus, we have decided to remove them from the Radius installation for now and will add them back in the future along with the features that depend on them.

Highlights
DeploymentTemplate Controller
A new Kubernetes controller in Radius called the DeploymentTemplate Controller is now available that will allow users to deploy resources defined in Bicep manifests using Kubernetes tooling using Radius. This controller was added to enable integrations with GitOps platforms like Flux, which will be available in a future release. Please see the DeploymentTemplate Controller design document for more details.
Preparations for using PostgreSQL as the Radius database
In the near future, the Radius data store will be migrated from etcd to a PostgreSQL database. In preparation for this, the Helm chart for installing Radius now includes deploying PostgreSQL to the Kubernetes cluster. There are no changes to Radius when installed via rad init.
You can follow the progress of moving the Radius data store in this issue.
rad CLI command for creating new resource types
We have added a CLI command rad resource-type create to create new resource-types in Radius. This was added to enable resource extensibility in Radius. The end-end functionality of creating and deploying a user-defined resource type will be available in a future release. Learn more from the UDT technical design document
