Notes de la versió
What began life as a simple bugfix release to fix the occasional surface-to-orbit terrain spike has grown with each passing month until it became the autumnal harvest bounty we set before you today. In this veritable cornucopia of new features you'll find major improvements to the flight HUD, new and improved Rayleigh-Mie terrain lighting for atmospheric planets, visible thruster exhaust trails and dust kicked up on planetary surfaces, smuggler's holds to hide your ill-gotten cargo, and more!

User Interface
Flight Reticle and Radar Landing Aids
image
We've completely revamped the flight UI, implementing a new local gravity display, current thrust-to-weight ratio display, and a thruster activity indicator. The radar has received the ability to display the docking pad you need to land on, and the central reticle now shows a line-and-tick helper to assist you in orienting your ship to the landing pad correctly.
Orbit Apoapsis / Periapsis Altitude Display
image
All text elements of the flight display got upgraded to use our new shadowed text rendering tech, improving visibility while maintaining readability over bright surfaces. We also finally added a readout displaying your current Apoapsis / Periapsis height while you're in orbit.
Other Features
OpenAL
Pioneer has received a more modern audio backend using the OpenAL Soft library. Aside from nice technical improvements, the major features of this backend are support for Binaural Rendering (HRTF) for headphone users and a simulation of the Doppler effect that Pioneer was completely lacking.
Smuggler's Hold
A feature long-discussed among the development team has finally been added to the game - now you can install shielded cargo spaces in your empty passenger cabins, disguised as simple blank walls to fool any cops who come knocking on your airlock. These cargo spaces provide a certain amount of shielded cargo capacity which cannot be detected by a police scan. Beware though - if you have more illegal cargo than shielded hold space, you will still be caught and fined for all of the goods you are carrying.
Load Mission Cargo
If you dock at a station with no room in your cargo hold, you no longer have to undock and re-dock to pick up the mission cargo for someone who wants you to bring their belongings back to them. Simply open the mission details in your Info Screen and click the "Load Cargo" button once you have room in your cargo hold.
And More!
See the changelog below for all of the lovely features and fixes that were merged during this "bugfix" development cycle.
Thanks to all of the Pioneer Contributors for their hard work, and thank you to our users for your continued interest in Pioneer Space Sim!

Notes de la versió
The Pioneer development team is proud to announce the release of Pioneer 2026-02-03, our ninth annual "Pioneer Day" release! This past year was mostly spent on laying frameworks for new content to be created and improving old code - but that doesn't mean this release is devoid of new exciting features.
This release touts an entirely new mission with 12 unique variations, major additions to the system and sector map interfaces, animated ship thrusters, gameplay changes to police and pirates, a completely new underlying economic simulation for station markets, the ability to bookmark systems and trade routes for later return, and more!
We've also continued to improve our custom system editor, making it easier (and more bug-free) than ever before to create custom systems. We gladly welcome contributors interested in expanding the Pioneer universe with hand-crafted systems for the player to visit - feel free to stop by #pioneer on Libera.chat and discuss it with us!
Animated Thruster Flames
Thrusters are a static glow volume no longer; your ship has embraced chaos and now merrily spits a lively tongue of flame into the empty void of space!

Planck Star Colors
All stars in game now calculate their lighting based on a real-world spectral formula, yielding much more believable lighting based on star temperature. We've attached a development comparison here so you can see the effects:

User Interface
The map interfaces have received some polish and new features. Both map screens now follow a common layout, with sidebars containing information panels and options, with navigation controls available in a centralized toolbar at the bottom.
A headlining new feature is the ability to bookmark systems, and (with a trade computer) commodity trading routes between the current station and a destination. These bookmarks can have custom notes attached, so you will always be able to remember which system you were waylaid by pirates in.
Speaking of pirates, the new layout for system information displays a "security rating" for the targeted system. While you're never guaranteed to be attacked (or safe) in a system, you'd do well to minimize time spent in high-risk systems unless you're spoiling for a fight. You can now also view the extended description for a system - if a contributor has written one. Pssst... you could write one yourself and contribute it to the game!
screenshot-20260131-211547
For those pilots not looking to take in the sights, the sector map now has the ability to trigger a legal hyperjump directly from the map screen via a button on the toolbar. This pairs nicely with the gameplay setting to leave the map screen open during a hyperjump!
The system map now shows information about a ship or hypercloud target, if a Target Scanner or Hypercloud Analyzer is installed on the ship.
screenshot-20260131-210613
The HUD now displays this target information in a similar way as well. And the target context menu now provides a way to set your hyperspace destination to the other "end" of a hypercloud if an analyzer is installed.

Police and Pirates
Have you ever found yourself running afoul of the law because you fired your weapons at the wrong time? Station police now have a much more generous threshold before they attempt to shoot you down and take you in the old-fashioned way. You'll still be fined for shooting in a no-fire zone, so be careful!
Pirates have become much sneakier. Instead of hanging out right next to your arrival cloud to ambush your ship as it comes out of hyperspace, they will loiter around planets in the target system, burning to intercept you and steal all your valuables as you approach.
Finding people
A new mission type is introduced, where the player is tasked with finding a person and either bringing them back, or to deliver a message to them.

Notes de la versió
A year of development brings with it many changes and improvements. Headlining this release is a new ship model, a complete rebalance of all ships in the game, the ability to install multiple weapons per ship, many improvements to user interface, and more.
Natrix Reworked
The overhaul of our ship models has now come to the OPLI-Barnard Inc. manufactured Natrix line, with a beautiful new model and vastly improved capability for this not-so-little ship. While not intended for a combat role in the same way as the Coronatrix, the Natrix still has plenty of defensive firepower to ensure your deliveries go where they are needed in a timely fashion.
User Interface
We have focused on improving a number of things about the user interface. First and most noticeable, we have implemented a new, much more consistent UI color theme. (This also brings better support for user mods that recolor the UI).
image
image
The Save/Load dialog has received a complete overhaul and now displays significantly more information about each save, including character and ship name, location, and (new this release!) when the game was last saved and total time played in the save.
image
(Yes, it's quite obvious this screenshot is from a developer...)
Other notable changes include:
- The radar interface in the flight view has been greatly improved with control over radar zoom and full keybinding support.
- Mission progress in the Scout mission gadget has been remade to better communicate mission state to the player.
- The commodity market now shows separate buy and sell prices.
- The economy display in the System View have been confusing to many, which is why we have added tooltip for clarity.
Other Visual Improvements
While playing around with some of the headlining features, you may find yourself witnessing improved planetary ring textures, and noticing that ships docked in orbital stations are now lit by the station!
Ship Equipment System Rewrite
Probably the most major feature this release contains is a complete redesign of how ships are equipped and how equipment is handled by the game.
Equipment now has fully independent mass and volume values, and ships are now equipped based on the amount of free equipment volume rather than a "capacity" metric shared between cargo and equipment. Cargo is now fully separate from installed equipment; you won't have to choose between carrying cargo or equipping that beam laser any longer.
We've decided to make ship equipment slots first-class citizens rather than just a simplistic numeric limit, which has allowed us to finally add support for multiple weapons per ship rather than the hard-coded singular forward and rear weapon mount (if you happened to be rich enough to even afford a ship with a rear weapon mount!)
This has also enabled us to implement a much-needed improvement to the game's hyperdrives, converting them to sip fuel from an internal reservoir rather than chugging an entire cargo container of fuel from the cargo hold. Hyperspace jumps in small ships should take quite a bit less cargo space to carry out now. For those curious, the hyperdrive design document outlines the thought that went into the new design.
A number of these changes had to be merged in very late in the development cycle, so we consider this release the "first iteration" of the new equipment system, focused only on converting existing equipment and game content to function under the new code architecture. Many aspects of the game have yet to receive a full balance pass, and we have a number of new systems and gameplay features planned to take advantage of this new architecture.
We are sure you, the players, will be quite happy to report back the full details on the effects this has had on the game's balance, and we intend to continue iterating on adding equipment and content as we enter the 2025 development cycle.
Complete Ship Rebalance
As part of the equipment redesign, we had to convert every ship in the game to use the new system. We took
