What's New in v3.2.0
The Smart Firmware Metadata & UX Refinements update. v3.2.0 brings automated firmware metadata extraction, dynamic output folder naming, intelligent ARB auto-detection, and terminal noise reduction to improve command-line usability.
Highlights
- Smart Firmware Metadata Extraction: Automatically parses META-INF/com/android/metadata and payload_properties.txt from OTA zips. Before extraction, otaripper displays a clean "Firmware Information" banner detailing OS Version, Security Patch level, and OTA target versions directly in the terminal.
- Dynamic Output Folder Naming: The output directory is now dynamically named using the actual OS version string if found (for example, extracted_CPH2573_15.0.0.860(EX01)_2026-05-25...) instead of a generic timestamp, making extracted files much easier to locate.
- Intelligent ARB Auto-Detection: The arb subcommand automatically inherits the firmware metadata parsing logic. It auto-detects the device model and OS version to securely skip manual user prompts and directly format the JSON output filename (for example, CPH2573_15.0.0.860(EX01)_ARB(0).json).
- Silenced GUI Spams: When spawning GUI file managers (such as Dolphin) post-extraction on Linux, stdout and stderr are redirected to null to completely silence Qt-related terminal warnings like QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap.
What's Changed
- feat(metadata): add ZIP metadata extraction logic for Android firmware properties
- feat(extractor): print firmware metadata banner and name output folder dynamically
- feat(arbscan): auto-populate JSON metadata and filenames from parsed firmware information
- fix(extractor): silence Dolphin file manager terminal stdout/stderr warnings
- refactor: improve code formatting and organization across multiple files
- docs: update README feature comparison matrix and technical specifications with metadata details

What’s New in v3.1.1
The Qualcomm ARB & CI Hardening update. v3.1.1 brings crucial compatibility updates for modern Snapdragon secure bootloader scanning, robust cross-platform URL parsing, and structural CI/CD pipeline hardening to protect forks.
Highlights
- Modern Qualcomm ARB Scan Support: Solved a major limitation with modern Snapdragon bootloaders. The secure boot hash table size validation check has been relaxed from requiring a multiple of 32 (SHA-256) to a multiple of 16. This adds seamless support for modern Qualcomm bootloaders using SHA-384 (48-byte digests) and future-proofs the engine for SHA-512 (64-byte digests).
- Supercharged JSON Output UX & Naming:
- Zero-Crash URL Parsing: Implemented robust, platform-independent, and URL-aware file stem parsing to prevent crashes on Windows when analyzing remote OTA URLs.
- Input Sanitization: Automatically trims white spaces, trailing slashes, and backslashes from user-supplied device inputs ("Device model" and "Update / build") to prevent ugly duplicate underscores in filenames.
- Scannable ARB Suffix: Scanned outputs are now automatically suffixed with _ARB(N).json (where N is the detected anti-rollback level) for instant filesystem scannability.
- CI/CD Fork Prevention: Protected workflow secrets and eliminated build spams on forks. All automated deployment pipelines (Crates.io, AUR, Winget, manual, and release builds) now explicitly check github.event.repository.fork == false so they never auto-run on forks or spam fork owners with failed scheduled cron runs.
- Dependency Upgrades: Bumped sysinfo to v0.39.2 in the Rust dependencies group to ensure optimal platform telemetry accuracy.
What's Changed
- fix(arbscan): relax hash table size check to multiple of 16 to support SHA-384/384-bit Qualcomm bootloaders
- fix(arbscan): implement robust URL-aware stem parsing & input-sanitization for JSON generation
- ci: prevent GitHub Action workflow secrets exposure and resource drain on forks
- build(deps): bump sysinfo from 0.39.1 to 0.39.2 in production dependencies
- docs: add Winget upgrade command guide to README and details of the modern ARB architecture in technical specifications

What’s New in v3.1.0
The Resilience & Throughput update. v3.1.0 overhauls the remote extraction engine to saturate high-speed connections through parallel chunking while introducing industrial-grade network recovery for unstable environments.
Highlights
- Parallel Chunked Streaming: A massive speed boost for remote extraction. otaripper now splits large partitions into parallel 8MB chunks, issuing multiple simultaneous HTTP Range requests to fully saturate high-bandwidth connections and bypass CDN-level throttling.
- Network Resilience & Offline Recovery: Unstable network? No problem. Implemented an infinite retry loop with exponential backoff. If your connection drops mid-stream, otaripper now waits and resumes exactly where it left off, with the UI dynamically notifying you of the status.
- Dedicated Bandwidth Monitor: A new persistent "Network:" progress bar has been added to the multi-progress view. It provides a global, real-time view of aggregate download speed, data retrieved, and total remaining bytes across all worker threads.
- Smart Rate Limit (429) Handling: Optimized for aggressive CDNs. The engine now explicitly detects HTTP 429 (Too Many Requests) status codes and automatically triggers a cooldown period before retrying, preventing IP bans during massive remote extractions.
- Security Hardening: Added a 256MB manifest size limit and server-side Range-request validation to protect against malicious or misconfigured remote servers.
What's Changed
- feat: implement multi-threaded parallel chunked HTTP streaming for massive throughput
- feat: add global bandwidth monitor and dedicated network progress bar
- feat: implement stateful connection recovery with exponential backoff
- feat: add smart handling for HTTP 429 rate limiting and server-side range validation

What’s New in v3.0.0
A massive architectural evolution. v3.0.0 introduces Remote HTTP Streaming, allowing you to instantly extract specific partitions directly from an OTA URL without downloading the massive 3GB+ firmware archive.
Highlights
- Remote HTTP Streaming: Skip the download. Pass an HTTP URL directly to otaripper, and it will intelligently stream only the bytes required to extract your requested partitions over the internet.
- Remote ARB Inspection (Zero-Download): The arbscan engine has been globally integrated. You can now instantly check a device's Anti-Rollback (ARB) index by passing an OTA URL directly to otaripper arb <url> -n—it pulls the metadata in seconds without downloading the firmware.
- Network Stability & DNS Fallbacks: Implemented a dynamic DNS resolution stack using hickory-dns with native Android fallbacks. This fixes major JNI networking crashes and ensures flawless performance inside Termux environments.
- "Gold Standard" Release Verification: otaripper now strictly separates distribution hashes. A master checksums.txt validates the zip archives, while an internal otaripper.sha256 protects the integrity of the binary inside.
- The "Lite" Build: For highly constrained environments that do not need network streaming, we now distribute otaripper-lite binaries that strip out the async networking stack for a drastically smaller footprint.
What's Changed
- feat: implement remote HTTP stream-based partition extraction
- feat: integrate global arbscan capabilities for zero-download remote metadata parsing
- fix: pin reqwest and overhaul DNS resolution to fix Android JNI crashes in Termux
- refactor: migrate CI/CD release infrastructure to generate atomic master checksums
- chore: introduce cargo lite and cargo full native build aliasing

Notes de la versió
What’s New in v2.3.0
A massive performance and reliability overhaul. v2.3.0 introduces "Zero-Copy" extraction for ZIP-based payloads and deep kernel-level I/O optimizations that push the limits of NVMe and high-speed storage.
Highlights
- Zero-Copy ZIP Extraction: By utilizing direct memory mapping for STORED entries within ZIP files, otaripper now bypasses traditional extraction buffers entirely. This leads to near-instantaneous mapping and extreme throughput for modern Android OTA zips.
- Kernel-Level Zero-Fill Bypass: Optimized the handling of empty blocks by bypassing user-space zeroing. On supported filesystems, this drastically reduces CPU cycles and disk wear when encountering sparse partitions.
- Atomic Pipeline Refactor: The extraction engine has been decomposed into focused, method-driven stages. This architectural change hardens error recovery, ensuring that partial extractions are cleaned up gracefully and diagnostics are more precise.
- Enhanced I/O Caching: Implemented OS-level sequential caching hints. This pre-warms the system's page cache during extraction, resulting in significantly faster SHA-256 validation passes.
Performance & Core Improvements
Pushing I/O Boundaries
- posix_fallocate Integration: On Linux, we now use posix_fallocate to pre-allocate disk space. This eliminates file fragmentation and reduces write contention on highly-parallel extraction tasks.
- Modernized Dependencies: Updated sysinfo to v0.39.0 for more accurate hardware detection and thread-scaling logic.
- Hardened Recovery: Improved lock-poisoning handling and transactional cleanup logic to ensure the filesystem remains consistent even if a process is interrupted.
What's Changed
- feat: instant zip extraction via direct memory mapping by @ArKT-7
- perf: bypass user-space zeroing for empty blocks by @ArKT-7
- perf: add OS-level sequential caching to speed up I/O and SHA-256 validation by @ArKT-7
- perf: use posix_fallocate on Linux to fix write contention by @ArKT-7
- refactor: decompose extraction pipeline into focused methods with hardened error recovery by @syedinsaf
- build(deps): update sysinfo to 0.39.0 by @syedinsaf

Notes de la versió
What’s New in v2.2.2
A feature-packed quality-of-life update that completely integrates the standalone arbscan utility into the otaripper engine, allowing for blazingly fast OEM bootloader analysis directly from full OTA payloads.
Highlights
- Unified CLI: The standalone arbscan binary is now fully integrated as a native subcommand: otaripper arbscan or otaripper arb.
- Direct Payload Analysis (Exclusive Feature): Unlike the standalone tool which could only read raw .img files, the integrated arbscan is smart enough to accept firmware.zip or payload.bin files directly! It automatically hooks into otaripper's high-speed extraction engine to silently dump xbl_config.img into a temporary directory, scan it, and clean up automatically.
- Streamlined Usage: Added convenient shorthand aliases otaripper arb and a new -n short flag to quickly skip JSON prompts.
- Quiet Mode: Added an internal suppression flag to the extraction engine to allow completely silent operations when extracting single files in the background.
Tool Consolidation & UX
Expanding the otaripper Toolset
- Zero-Cost Payload Scanning: By integrating arbscan directly into the otaripper crate, we instantly give it the superpower to crack open .zip files. It re-uses the highly parallelized rayon threadpool and memory-mapped file architecture to extract the bootloader partition in a fraction of a second, without requiring the user to manually unzip or extract the OTA payload first.
- Intelligent File Detection: The CLI dynamically reads file magic bytes to determine the correct workflow. Passing a raw xbl_config.img analyzes it instantly, while passing an update.zip triggers the silent extraction pipeline automatically.
What's Changed
- feat: integrate arbscan as a native subcommand
- feat: add direct payload analysis and extraction support to arbscan
- feat: add CLI aliases (arb) and short flag (-n) for JSON suppression
