Modern Find and Replace Panel
- Replaced CodeMirror's standard dialog prompts with a custom, persistent search panel pinned at the top of the editor.
- Added a toggle button to expand or collapse the Replace row inside the panel.
- Added support for toggling the panel with standard keyboard shortcuts:
- Ctrl+F / Cmd+F: Opens the panel in Find mode and focuses the search input.
- Ctrl+H / Cmd+Alt+F: Opens the panel in Replace mode and focuses the replace input.
Enhanced Navigation and Selection Highlights
- Hitting Enter inside the search input moves to the next match, while Shift+Enter moves to the previous match.
- Included an occurrence counter (e.g. "X of Y") next to the input to show the active match index.
- Redesigned match highlighting to make the active selection stand out. Other matches use a subtle blue background with an underline, while the active match is colored in a prominent amber/orange.
Space Alignment and Layout Fixes
- Configured the editor lines, line-number gutters, and the right-hand answer column to push down dynamically when the search panel is open. This ensures no text is covered by the search bar, keeping calculations and answers perfectly aligned.
- Designed the panel elements with fixed scaling rules (flex-shrink protection) and set a minimum width boundary for search inputs. The panel remains fully usable even on narrow windows.
Keyboard Shortcuts and Escape Key Protection
- Updated the global application Escape key handler to prevent the calculator window from accidentally closing when dismissive keypresses are intended to close the search panel.

Improved Second-Instance Activation Behavior
Refactored the application's single-instance lock handler in the Electron main process to improve window toggling when the user attempts to launch a second instance:
- Toggle Focused Window: If the application is already running, focused, and no file argument is passed, launching a new instance will now act as a toggle:
- If the system tray setting showTray is enabled, the active window is seamlessly hidden to the tray (win.hide()).
- If showTray is disabled, the window is minimized (win.minimize()).
- Restore and Focus: If the window was previously minimized or hidden, it is correctly restored (win.restore()), shown (win.show()), and focused (win.focus()).
Maintenance and Dependency Upgrades

Configurable Escape Key Window Hiding / Minimization (#285)
- Added a new setting "Close app on Esc key" in the General settings tab (disabled by default).
- When enabled, pressing the Escape key will hide the application window to the system tray/menu bar (if the tray icon is enabled) or minimize it to the taskbar.
Focus and Input Event Propagation Safety
- Pressing the Escape key prioritizes dismissing autocomplete hints lists in the text editor first.
- Active modal dialogs, overlay panels, and the sidebar list will consume the Escape key to close themselves first.
- The application window will only be hidden/minimized when there are no active dialogs, open sidebars, or visible auto-completion lists.

- Fixed Missing Calculation Timeout Tooltip: Added the missing help description tooltip to the "Calculation timeout (seconds)" label in the Settings panel so that hovering/focusing on it now correctly shows the configuration guidance.

- Improved symbol matching regex: Updated the letter symbol regex to use proper Unicode word boundary logic (\p{L}\p{M}_ and \p{M}\d_), preventing false matches when symbol names appear as substrings within longer identifiers.

Numara v7.0.0 represents a complete, ground-up rewrite and modernization of the application. This release introduces a fully asynchronous calculation architecture, a brand new file synchronization mechanism, built-in code folding, and a visual redesign featuring Google Sans typography.

1. Asynchronous Calculation Engine (Web Workers)
To prevent UI freezes and typing lag during complex calculations, the core math engine has been decoupled from the renderer process.
- Worker Threads: Calculations now run in a separate background thread calc.worker.js managed by a dedicated calcManager.js.
- Non-Blocking UI: The editor remains fluid and responsive even when evaluating large math sheets, complex symbolic expressions, or recursive variables.
- Improved Performance: Debounced calculations trigger seamlessly as you type, updating outputs with minimal CPU overhead.
2. Workspace & Folder Synchronization
Numara now supports importing and syncing entire directories directly from your local filesystem.
- How it works:
- Initial Alignment & Conflict Resolution: When a folder is synced, it scans for .num files. If a file is in the folder but not local, a new page is created. If content differs between a local page and a disk file, a conflict prompt allows you to choose to Overwrite Local or Sync Local.
- Debounced Auto-Saving: Editor typing triggers an asynchronous write back to the folder file with a 500ms debounce to prevent disk activity overhead.
- Rename & Delete Propagation: Any page rename or deletion performed inside the app automatically propagates to the corresponding file on disk.
3. Editor Refactor & Code Folding
The CodeMirror editor configuration has been rewritten for modularity and functionality.
- File Format Update: The default file extension for Numara sheets has been changed to .num.
- Code Folding: You can now fold math regions and header blocks (# followed by a space or a character). The calculation engine is fully aware of folding states, evaluating sub-totals dynamically.
4. UI/UX & Google Sans Typography
The user interface has been refined to feel more consistent and modern.
- System Tray Support: Desktop apps now support running in the system tray, with platform-specific template icons (macOS/Windows) and toggle controls in settings.
- Modern Typography: Replaced Open Sans and Roboto Mono with Google Sans as the primary typeface.
- Responsive Layout: Rebuilt layout elements with flex layout for pixel-perfect alignment. Modals, grids, warning banners, and inputs now follow a consistent layout spacing.
- Dynamic Sidebar: Implemented smooth transition animations and an enhanced resizable container for the sidebar/page manager.
- Live Tooltips: Inline help and settings-related tooltips have been introduced to guide users on function parameters and units.
5. Currency & Localization Improvements
Localization settings have been overhauled to better adapt to global standards.
- Thousand Separators: Thousand and decimal separators now automatically respect the system locale with option to choose comma or period as thousands separator.
- Date format: In addition to respecting the system locale, users can also set a preferred date format in settings.
Note: Although previous settings should transfer from v6 to v7, it is highly recommended to perform an app reset or fresh install.

With this setting enabled (turned off by default), expressions such as 1,000.23 + 1,200 (or 1.000,23 + 1.200 depending on the locale) are now evaluated.
