A new question type is now available in Kotobee Author. Readers are presented with a sentence containing blank spaces and can select the appropriate answer for each blank from an associated dropdown list.
Clickable Image Hotspots
Create interactive images with clickable regions using the new Image Hotspot tool. Each region can display a popup when readers click or hover over it, giving you more flexibility when adding explanations, labels, and additional information to images.
AI-Generated Questions from Your Content
When creating AI-generated questions, you no longer need to enter a subject. Instead, you can have the questions generated based on the current chapter or selected text. This is useful when you want to quickly create questions that are directly relevant to the content you're working on.
Disable Screenshots in Mobile Apps
You can now prevent users from taking screenshots in your exported mobile apps. This option is available in the mobile app customization settings. It gives you greater control over how your ebook content is captured and shared, which can be especially useful when distributing copyrighted, proprietary, or sensitive content through mobile apps.
Push Notifications for Mobile Apps
Exported mobile apps now support push notifications. You can send notifications to users who have your app installed, even when the app is not currently open. You can also configure what happens when a user taps a notification, allowing you to direct them to specific content or actions within the app. If you do not need push notifications, you can disable them from the mobile app export settings.
OpenAPI API Documentation
Kotobee's backend API is now documented using OpenAPI, and a Swagger file is available for download. This is particularly useful for developers and technical teams integrating Kotobee with other systems. The API documentation provides a clearer reference for available endpoints and makes it easier to explore and build integrations with Kotobee platform.
Video Duration Badges
Kotobee Author's integrated media library gives you access to free photos and video footage that you can browse through and add directly to your ebook. With this update, video results now display the duration of each video in seconds. This makes it easier to quickly compare footage and choose a clip that fits your ebook without having to open each video first.
Category-Based Access Control
Managing book permissions for large collections is now much easier. Instead of excluding books individually, library administrators and publishers can restrict user access to entire categories at once, which simplifies how they customize content for different user groups.
Set Category Order by Index
Managing the order of a large number of categories is now easier. Instead of manually dragging categories into position, you can specify their order directly by entering an order index number.
Custom Footer Links in Library Website
You can now add custom links to the footer of your library website, such as links to your FAQ, Privacy Policy, or other important pages.
Free Ebooks in Private Libraries
In your private library, you can now make selected ebooks accessible to all users without setting individual permissions. Simply set the ebook's price to zero, and users can access it for free.
Set Default Book Permissions
By default, access to books in your library is controlled by the permissions assigned to the book, its category, or the entire library. You can now change this default behavior from Library > Permissions, where you can choose whether newly uploaded books are immediately accessible to everyone or remain under access control. For example, if you want all newly uploaded books to be freely available, you can set the default permission to allow access for everyone. If you prefer to control who can access each book, you can keep the access control option enabled.

Partial Scoring for Multi-Part Questions
Interactive questions with multiple parts (such as drag-and-drop or fill-in-the-blanks) now support partial credit. You can now import multiple books (in PDF format) into your library at once using an XLS sheet. Instead of uploading titles one by one, simply download the XLS template provided, add the necessary data, and then import your PDF books in bulk. This is especially useful for publishers, educators, and organizations managing large collections, as it saves them significant time during the onboarding or migration processes.
Discounted Pricing for Library Books

Redesigned Highlight Popover
The highlight selection interface in the reader has been updated to have a new, modern look. This new design makes marking up your favorite passages easier and faster.

When enabled, this section shows up to 10 recommended books from your library that are related to the currently viewed title. These recommendations are generated using AI to identify meaningful connections between your books.
JWT Single Sign-On
Kotobee now supports authentication using JSON Web Tokens (JWT). This allows users to access your library or cloud ebook through a single secure link. JWT SSO is especially valuable for organizations that want Kotobee to function as part of a larger system while eliminating duplicate logins for users. For example, universities integrating ebooks within their LMS or corporate training departments using internal employee portals to deliver courses. When a user opens the link, they are automatically signed in without being prompted to enter their credentials. The JWT securely includes the user’s email address for authentication.
Timezone Management
You can now set your timezone directly from the Account Settings tab in Kotobee Author. All displayed dates across your system will automatically reflect your selected timezone, including user signup dates, question submission timestamps, and other activity logs. This ensures greater accuracy when reviewing learner data, especially for organizations operating across multiple regions. Schools, universities, and corporate training teams can now align reporting and analytics with their local time without manual adjustments.
Greek Language Support
Greek has been added as a supported interface language in both Kotobee Author and Kotobee Reader. Greek-speaking authors and educators can now create content in their native language, while learners can access their ebooks through a fully localized interface. This enhances usability and expands Kotobee’s accessibility in Greek-speaking markets.
Hosted Ebooks Storage Usage Display
Your Hosted Ebooks page now shows the total storage used by all your hosted ebooks. This makes it easier to monitor your usage and plan ahead. It is especially useful for organizations working with large libraries, media-rich content, or audiobooks, where file sizes can grow quickly. By monitoring storage usage directly from the dashboard, administrators can better anticipate capacity needs and avoid unexpected limitations. |

New Question Type: Drag into the Blanks
This question type lets you add blank spaces within a sentence, similar to Fill in the Blanks, but using a drag-and-drop interaction. Readers are presented with a sentence with missing words and a list of keywords that includes both correct and incorrect options. To answer, they drag each correct keyword into the appropriate blank.
Disabling Pasting in Question Text Fields
For question types that require typed responses, such as Short Answer and Fill in the Blanks, you can now disable pasting into the text field. This helps reduce pasted answers from external sources and encourages learners to type their responses themselves.
Enhanced PDF Export
PDF export has been upgraded with a new generation engine. This improvement resolves issues that occurred in certain uncommon scenarios in older releases and improves overall export stability.
New Permission Rule: Deny Book Access
When adding users to your library, you can normally grant them access to specific books, categories, or even the entire library. In this release, a new rule has been added that allows you to deny access to selected books. This provides more flexibility as you will be able to give users access to a growing category or the entire library, while excluding specific books when needed.

New Question Type: Ordering
This question type presents users with a list of words or phrases that need to be arranged in a certain order. You can choose to display the items horizontally or vertically. A correct score is awarded only when the full sequence is arranged properly. This can be useful for activities such as placing historical events in order, arranging procedural steps, or sequencing story elements for children.
New Question Type: Fill in the Blanks
The Fill in the Blanks question type lets authors create sentences or short paragraphs with one or more missing words. Learners must type in the correct answers to complete the sentence. This format is perfect for language learning or any activity that requires users to recall specific terms.
Drag-and-Drop in Matching Questions
Matching questions now support drag-and-drop, allowing users to move items from one column to the other rather than clicking to form pairs.
EPUB Validation Auto-Fix
A new auto-fix option is now available when exporting your ebook to EPUB. It automatically corrects common validation issues, such as missing attributes or broken links, making the export process smoother and faster.
Custom User Registration Fields
Alongside the standard registration fields (Name, Date of Birth, Country, etc.) available in libraries and cloud ebooks, you can now create your own custom fields. Each field can be named as you wish, and you can choose whether it accepts open text or a set of predefined options from a dropdown menu.
Improved Text-to-Speech
Readers can now listen to the ebook’s text using Google’s Text-to-Speech engine, which delivers clearer, more natural narration with a wide range of languages supported. This feature works for hosted ebooks, cloud ebooks, and ebooks in your Kotobee Library, and it requires an internet connection. It’s especially useful for accessibility needs, language-learning ebooks, and early-reading educational materials.
New Page Flip Transition
The new Page Flip transition provides a realistic, book-like page-turn animation. When enabled, pages appear to curl and turn as they would in a physical book. This transition is particularly suitable for fixed-layout ebooks and children’s picture books, where visual continuity and page presentation are important.
Analytics Tab
All analytics-related settings have been reorganized into their own tab, making it much easier to configure tracking options without sorting through unrelated settings.

Dragging to Scroll Horizontal Lists
Libraries that display books in horizontal rows can now be scrolled by dragging left or right, making browsing smoother for both desktop and mobile users.
Trim Long Book Titles
You can now choose to display book titles over two wrapped lines or trim them for a shorter appearance. This is especially helpful for libraries with long academic or multi-part titles.
Library Storage Usage Display
Your library dashboard now shows the total storage used by all ebooks. This helps you plan usage and avoid surprises if you manage a large catalog, especially when working with rich media or audiobooks.
Book Ratings Under Thumbnails
You can now display a book’s average rating beneath its thumbnail, making it easy for readers to see how others have rated it at a glance.
Category-Specific Book Sorting

| 1.9.3 | 25 de setembre del 2025 | — | 64 bits EXE (Inno Setup)32 bits EXE (Inno Setup) Notes de la versióNew Question Types
The question creation interface in Kotobee Author has been redesigned for better usability and clarity. You'll now find a more organized layout, along with three new question types: Image Hotspot, Numeric Answer, and Matching.
Image Hotspot
This new question type lets users respond by clicking on a specific point within an image. Using Kotobee's built-in question tool, you can upload your own image and define one or more correct areas. If users click within one of these predefined areas, the answer is registered as correct. This is especially useful for visual learning activities, such as asking students to click on the correct country in a world map or identify an organ in a human anatomy diagram.
Numeric Answer
Designed specifically for numerical input, this question type is a variation of the existing Short Answer format. Instead of entering text, users must input a number. You can define one or more acceptable numeric answers, which is helpful in cases where multiple values may be considered correct. For example, you can ask for a number that is divisible by both 2 and 3, where 6, 12, and 18 would all be accepted as valid answers.
Matching
With this format, you create two lists of items and ask users to match each item in the first list with its corresponding pair in the second. It works well for exercises that test associations between terms, such as matching countries with their capitals or scientific concepts with their definitions.
Add Audio to Questions and Answers
You can now insert audio clips directly into the question title and individual answer choices. This applies to various question types, including multiple choice and drag-and-drop formats. It's especially useful for language learning, accessibility, or including recorded instructions. For example, you can add pronunciation clips to each answer in a vocabulary test.
Insert Images into Answer Options
You can now add images directly to the answers of multiple-choice and drag-and-drop questions. This is especially useful for visual assessments, such as asking students to select the correct animal, identify an object, or match an image to a word, making it ideal for children's books and visually focused subjects.
Feedback for Individual MCQ Answers
Instead of a single explanation for the whole question, you can now provide specific feedback and reference links for each multiple-choice answer option. This allows you to give learners more targeted guidance based on the option they chose, which can help reinforce their understanding.
Shuffle MCQs Answers Automatically
You can now enable an option to randomize the order of multiple-choice answers each time a question is loaded. This prevents users from memorizing answer positions and helps keep quizzes more dynamic and fair, especially during repeated attempts.
Preview Questions as You Create Them
A new Preview tab in the question editor lets you see exactly how your questions will appear to your users, without leaving the editing window. This makes it easier to fine-tune formatting, layout, and content before saving.
HTML Source Mode for Question Titles
You can now switch to a source mode when editing question titles to enter custom HTML directly. This gives you more control over formatting and enables advanced use cases, such as inserting inline styles, spans, or embedded elements.
Duplicate Questions
You can now duplicate any question with one click, making it faster to build question sets with a similar structure or content.
Highlight Errors in Quiz Questions
If there's a problem with one of your questions, like a missing title or an unanswered field, Kotobee Author will now highlight exactly which question needs fixing. This helps you spot and correct issues faster, especially when working with longer assessments.
Maximize Questions Window
A new maximize button has been added to the question editor, allowing you to expand the window and make full use of your screen. This gives you more space |

Add the Publisher’s URL in Book Info
You can now add a publisher's website to your book’s metadata. When readers view the book’s details, the website will appear as a clickable link.
Review Management Enhancements
Default Visibility Settings for Reviews
You can now set whether new reviews are published by default or remain hidden until approved. When set to unpublished by default, the review notification email will include a direct “Publish” link, allowing you to approve the review with a single click, without needing to open Kotobee Author.
Unpublish and Republish Reviews
Previously, removing a review meant deleting it permanently. Now you can unpublish reviews directly from Kotobee Author, with the option to republish them later if needed.
Notification Emails for New Reviews
When a new review is submitted, the library or cloud ebook owner now receives an email notification. These emails include the review content and the book rating.
Export Reviews to XLS
All reviews can now be exported as an XLS file, allowing you to analyze or archive them externally.
Export Assigned Books and Categories
The XLS export feature for library users has been updated to include two additional columns:
- Assigned Books: Lists the IDs of books assigned to each user.
- Assigned Categories: Lists the IDs of categories each user can access.
This enhancement makes it easier to manage access permissions and perform external audits or data analysis.
Book Info Display Options
A new library customization option enables you to display the book information (such as title, author, and publisher) to appear as inline wrapped text beneath its thumbnails rather than on separate lines. This helps maintain a compact and visually consistent layout.

New “Answers” Tab for Question Settings
A new “Answers” tab has been added to the self-assessment question settings in Kotobee Author. This tab consolidates all options related to how answers are displayed, such as highlighting correct answers, showing explanations, using popups, inline layout, and toggle buttons. This makes it much easier to configure and manage answer behavior from one centralized place.
Display Answer Choices Horizontally
Within the new “Answers” tab, you can now choose to display answer choices horizontally (inline) rather than vertically. This gives you more control over layout and works well for short options like True/False.
Use Toggle Buttons for Answer Selection
For True/False and Multiple Choice (Single or Multiple Answer) questions, you now have the option to display answer choices as toggle-style buttons instead of standard checkboxes or radio buttons. This provides a friendlier and more modern interface, especially useful for mobile users or interactive learning formats.
Add Read-Aloud Option for Questions
A new play button can be displayed beside any question, enabling it to be read aloud using text-to-speech. This feature improves accessibility and can be particularly helpful for young learners or ESL readers.

New customization options allow you to selectively show or hide specific metadata (such as book description, publisher, book language, etc.) in the book's information panel or popup.
The book information panel now also gives you the option to display the date a book was last modified, in addition to its original publication date.
Quick Access to Mini-apps from the Toolbox
For convenience, a Mini-app shortcut button has been added inside the toolbox, which takes you directly to the Mini-apps tab in the customization screen.
YouTube Mini-app Now Free for All Users
The YouTube mini-app is now free to download and use.
Open Specific Books in LTI Using a Custom Parameter
When integrating your library with an LMS via LTI, you can now have your library directly open to a specific book by using LTI Custom Parameters. To do this, simply include the book's unique ID as a parameter, such as "book=115485". This parameter can be adjusted for each instance.
