The below changes and fixes require the installed application to be updated.
This release focuses on predictability and clarity during live sessions, particularly around devices, chat, and polls. Several long-standing edge cases in onboarding and in-session device handling have also been resolved.
What’s improved in live sessions
- Polls now support longer, more expressive answers, all without sacrificing readability - Poll answer limits have been increased from 50 to 255 characters, allowing trainers to ask more nuanced questions without workarounds. To prevent results from becoming unreadable, long answers are truncated in poll graphs so charts remain clear even when responses are detailed.
- Chat interactions are harder to mis-click - The emoji picker has been repositioned so it no longer overlaps the Send button, reducing accidental message sends.
- Better context menus in the desktop app - Text inputs on the desktop client now support spellcheck and standard copy-and-paste menus, making longer messages and edits less error-prone.
- More consistent learner controls across views - “Back-of-the-room” learner controls are now available in over-the-shoulder views as well, reducing mode-specific surprises for trainers.
More reliable device handling
A large portion of this release is dedicated to making device behaviour match user intent, especially when hardware changes mid-flow.
- Your device choices are now respected - If you explicitly select “no microphone” or “no camera”, the app will no longer override that choice just because another device becomes available.
- Graceful recovery when devices change - If a selected microphone or camera disappears (for example, being unplugged) and another suitable device is available, the app will now fall back automatically instead of leaving you without audio or video.
- Improved onboarding feedback - “Camera in use” errors now provide clearer guidance on what to do next, rather than failing silently or ambiguously.
- Fewer surprises after device glitches - Muted microphones and cameras now stay muted if they’re temporarily lost and restored, and audio output selections made during onboarding are correctly honoured once the session starts.
- More robust handling of virtual and physical devices - Several edge cases where audio devices appeared identical but behaved differently have been resolved, improving reliability for headsets, virtual devices, and system defaults.
Deprecations
- Trainer login has moved to Hurdle Manager - The trainer login form has been removed from the desktop client. Trainers should now sign in via Hurdle Manager as part of the ongoing move of administrative features out of the Electron app and into the dedicated dashboard.
