Thoughts on "Discovery" & Breaking Out of Algorithmic Bubbles / 关于「发现」与「打破算法茧房」的一点碎碎念
In previous releases, while the app offered several trending and recommendation feeds, most of them inevitably converged on superstar repositories with tens of thousands of stars. Don't get me wrong — those headline projects are magnificent feats of engineering, but in day-to-day work, many of us will honestly never touch them.
In an era dominated by algorithmic recommendations, we are constantly boxed into homogeneous bubbles. My persistent goal has been to break through this enclosure and unearth modest, lesser-known, but deeply practical and grounded tools.

Most have virtually zero marketing and no influencer endorsements, yet they solve real frictions in everyday workflows with surgical elegance. Because every issue has limited slots and every curator evaluates "utility" differently, many hidden gems never make the final cut. The Repository Q&A Assistant is still in an early stage. Please keep the following in mind before using it:
- Expect bad cases. Retrieval may fail and answers may be wrong or incomplete. If an answer feels shallow, raise the Task depth setting at the bottom-left of the chat input (Default / Quick / Deep / Unlimited).
- The app does not index every file of the repository being asked about. It is designed for simple questions and quick lookups (usage, docs, recent changes, small implementation details). For complex, whole-codebase analysis and multi-file reasoning, we recommend cloning the repository locally and using a mature coding agent of your choice.
- Function calling is disabled by default. The experimental native tool loop must be enabled manually in Settings → AI Configuration → Repository Q&A → Advanced Settings → "Tool-loop mode (experimental)", and it only takes effect on chat models marked as supporting tool calling.

Open View releases from a repository card to browse the repository's current GitHub releases in a theme-aware side sheet. Each release includes paginated assets, release notes, and an optional AI-generated summary. Download uploaded assets or GitHub source archives directly in the browser, or send downloads to a configured RPC downloader.
New Repository Q&A Assistant — Early Access
The Repository Q&A Assistant is an early-stage feature. Failed retrievals, incomplete evidence, and unsuccessful answers may occur.
The assistant is designed for simple, focused questions about a single repository, such as its purpose, installation steps, documented features, or a small, clearly scoped implementation detail. Each chat session pins the repository to a specific commit and presents source-backed evidence where available.
Important limitation: the application does not index every file in the repository being queried. It is therefore not intended for complex, whole-codebase analysis, multi-file reasoning, debugging, or implementation planning. For those tasks, we recommend cloning the repository locally and using a mature coding agent of your choice.

Highlights
Version 0.7.6 brings official GitHub-style README rendering, a unified design system built on shadcn/ui and Radix Primitives, and a batch of reliability fixes for release tracking and GitHub synchronization.
README rendering
- GitHub-style README rendering (PR #287): Repository cards (Repos and Trending) and release notes now render with the official github-markdown-css dual-theme styling. Support has been added for GitHub Alerts (> [!NOTE] and friends), gemoji short codes (:tada: becomes 🎉), math formulas via KaTeX, and Mermaid diagrams. KaTeX and Mermaid are lazily loaded so they do not affect startup or bundle budget. The table of contents, side-by-side translation overlay, and copy-code buttons all remain fully compatible.
Unified user interface
- Migration to shadcn/ui and Radix Primitives (PR #284): The presentation layer has been refactored onto the shadcn/ui component style backed by Radix Primitives. Previously the CSS and components were hand-rolled; this migration unifies the visual language across the app and lays the foundation for consistent, faster iteration going forward. The global theme now uses standard semantic variables (background, foreground, card, popover, primary, secondary, muted, accent, destructive, border, input, ring, radius), shared controls such as Button, Badge, Input, Card, Select, Checkbox, Switch, Tabs, Dialog, and AlertDialog follow the canonical shadcn defaults, and dark-theme foreground colors on primary actions have been fixed. Business logic and data flow are unchanged, and an unused react-router-dom dependency was removed (production npm audit now reports zero vulnerabilities).
Release tracking fixes
- Correct release update times and asset markers (PR #280): The repository header now reflects the effective latest activity across releases and their assets, newly added or changed assets are tracked accurately during refresh, and the asset-level Assets updated marker appears consistently in both release views.
- Asset indicators decoupled from read state (PR #283): Per-asset Assets updated badges no longer disappear as soon as the parent release is marked read. Each asset can be dismissed independently via a new per-asset read action, and "mark all as read" also clears every asset badge.
- Aligned repository view timestamps (PR #275): The latest-release timestamp in the repository header is right-aligned with the release count and latest tag rows for visual consistency.
- Simplified filter panel (PR #281): Removed the duplicate preset-filter Reset button and the redundant selected-filter summary row, keeping a single top-level "Clear all filters" action.
GitHub synchronization fixes
- Existing tokens synced to the backend (PR #277): After local state hydration, an existing frontend GitHub token is now synced idempotently to the Docker backend, fixing GITHUB_TOKEN_NOT_CONFIGURED errors for existing sessions without requiring re-login.
- Direct-connection fallback for GitHub Lists (PR #278): When the backend proxy cannot reach api.github.com (for example inside a container without proxy settings), Lists GraphQL queries automatically fall back to a direct browser connection for the rest of the run. Transient 5xx responses are retried, backend error details are surfaced, and proxy usage is preserved whenever it works.
- Watched-repository sync resilience (PR #286): Watched-repository synchronization no longer fails when GitHub returns an empty 204 No Content response, redundant duplicate requests were removed, and license metadata is normalized to SPDX identifiers.

Upgrade notes
No data migration is required. The interface refresh in PR #284 changes only the presentation layer; all settings, categories, and synchronized data remain intact.

Release and version management
- Centralized application versioning (PR #270): The root package.json is now the single source of truth for the application version. The package lockfile is synchronized automatically, the duplicate Electron version field has been removed, and the release helper now rejects duplicate or downgraded versions while validating metadata and download URLs more safely.
Vector-search reliability
- Safer Vectorize metadata handling (PR #271): Vector metadata is compacted at the Cloudflare Worker /upsert boundary using UTF-8 JSON byte limits while preserving structured fields. Oversized descriptions and tags, malformed license metadata, and excessive similarity-search limits are handled more safely.
If you use the Cloudflare Worker deployment, redeploy the Worker before using this fix.
Release update tracking
- Improved release refresh behavior (PR #272): When release assets or metadata change, the release is correctly marked as unread again. Displayed timestamps now reflect the latest asset update, and affected releases show an Assets updated indicator while preserving the read state of unaffected releases.
- Clearer asset-update indicators (PR #274): The Assets updated indicator now disappears when the release is marked as read. The behavior is consistent in both release cards and repository group headers, with additional coverage for timestamp and read-state edge cases.
GitHub Lists synchronization
- Experimental two-way GitHub Lists synchronization (PR #273, addressing issue #229): You can optionally pull GitHub native Lists into the app and push local categories back to GitHub Lists. The feature supports configurable sync modes, protected categories, list-to-tag/category mapping, and confirmation dialogs for operations that may overwrite unlocked classifications.
This is an experimental feature. Please back up your data before trying it. Existing users, and users who do not use GitHub native Lists, are advised to continue using the legacy synchronization mode. GitHub Lists synchronization is optional and can be selected in the sync settings.

Upgrade notes
After upgrading, users of the Cloudflare Worker deployment must redeploy the Worker for the Vectorize metadata fix in PR #271 to take effect. Users evaluating GitHub Lists synchronization should back up their data first and may continue using the legacy synchronization mode if they do not need native Lists support.

A shared AI request limiter now handles provider rate limits with retry-aware cooldowns, exponential backoff, a circuit breaker, and optional concurrency and requests-per-minute controls. - Reliable release asset refresh. Refreshing an existing repository release now detects changed assets and metadata, merges updates safely, and preserves each release's read/unread state.
