DeskRipple 1.1.1 is a maintenance release. It starts sooner after you sign in, puts a Help
link in the app, and carries fixes for updates, icons, profiles and dialogs. If DeskRipple is
already installed and running, it updates itself in the background. New here? The installer
is below.
> 🔑 **Try DeskRipple free for 14 days, with every feature included. No account or payment details are required to start.** If it fits your workflow, DeskRipple is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Enter a key once, under **Manager → About** or on the license screen, and there's no expiry — the key is verified on your own PC, with no account and no activation server. DeskRipple asks you to accept the [license agreement (EULA)](https://github.com/DeskRipple/deskripple/blob/main/EULA.md) on first run.
## 🔧 What's new in 1.1.1
• **DeskRipple starts sooner after you sign in.** The scheduled task that launches
DeskRipple at sign-in ran it at below-normal priority, and it stayed there for the whole
session. Among everything else that starts at sign-in, the first folder icon could take
20 seconds or more to appear. The task now runs DeskRipple at normal priority, never
above it, and an existing install updates its own task the first time it starts after
this update. On the development machine, the wait for the first icon after a restart
roughly halved.
• **Help is one click away.** The tray menu has a Help item, the Manager footer a Help
link, and the About and welcome dialogs point to the same place:
[deskripple.com/help](https://deskripple.com/help). It covers the first minute, where a
desktop shortcut went, the Manager, expand styles, settings, profiles, privacy, updates,
your license and troubleshooting.
• **Opening the Manager always brings it back.** If the Manager had been minimized,
double-clicking the tray icon, choosing **Open Manager**, opening it from a folder's menu
or starting DeskRipple a second time left it minimized, so the click seemed to do
nothing. It now comes back where it was.
• **A stuck update no longer blocks newer ones.** When an update had been downloaded but
could not be applied at restart, because something held the install folder open at that
moment, DeskRipple kept that download and stopped checking for newer releases. It now
keeps checking, and a newer release replaces the stuck download and applies in the usual
way.
• **A shortcut to an unplugged drive or a dead network path no longer freezes DeskRipple.**
Before it reads an icon, DeskRipple checks that the shortcut's target still exists and
resolves where the shortcut points. Those checks ran on the same thread that draws the
windows, and each one can wait out a network timeout when the target is gone, so a few
such shortcuts could stall the whole app for many seconds at startup and on every open,
even when the icon was already cached. All of it now runs in the background.
• **A shortcut dragged in from the desktop is recorded the instant it is moved.** In Move
mode, DeskRipple moves the desktop original into its archive, and it wrote the matching
entry to its settings a fraction of a second later. A crash or a forced shutdown inside
that gap left the desktop icon gone with no entry saying where it went. The entry is now
written at once.
• **Cloning a profile upgrades it first.** A profile created under an older version keeps
its settings in that version's layout, and DeskRipple upgrades the layout when it loads
the profile. Cloning copied the file as it was and marked the copy as current, so the
copy never got that upgrade. The clone is now upgraded before it is marked current, and
cloning the profile you are currently using saves its latest changes before copying.
• **Dialogs fit on short or heavily scaled screens.** The license screen keeps its buttons
in view on a short screen and scrolls its text instead of pushing the buttons off the
bottom. Long captions, headings and tooltips wrap instead of being cut off, the Settings
labels st |

DeskRipple 1.1.0 adds a 14-day trial for new installs, and it carries a set of fixes, several
of them from user reports since 1.0. If DeskRipple is already installed and running, it updates
itself in the background; a licensed install sees only the fixes. New here? The installer is
below.

## 🔧 What's new in 1.1.0
• **A 14-day trial for new installs.** For an install that never ran the beta, DeskRipple runs for 14 days after you install it, then needs a license key to keep working; the About dialog counts the days, and a one-time notice appears near the end. Installs that ran the beta keep the terms they were shown:without a license key they stopped working on September 1, 2026, and a key entered on the license screen unlocks them in place. 1.0.0 had no trial, so a 1.0.0 install that never ran the beta also stopped without a key. Once it updates, its 14 days are counted from the day it was installed, not from the update, so they may already be used up. In every case the license screen's **Restore my desktop shortcuts** returns every archived desktop original without a purchase.
• **A pasted license key with invisible characters now validates.** A key copied out of an
email can pick up characters you can't see, such as zero-width spaces or soft hyphens, and
the key box rejected it as malformed even though every visible character was right. Both key
boxes, in About and on the license screen, now ignore those the way they already ignored
spaces and line breaks, and an accepted key is stored in that same cleaned form, so it can't
fail again on the next launch. When a key is still rejected, the message says why:a key of
the right shape that doesn't verify, a genuine key for a different product, or text that
isn't a key at all.
• **A one-off clock jump can no longer lock an unlicensed install out.** DeskRipple remembers
the latest date it has seen, so that setting the clock back can't stretch a free run. A
clock that briefly jumped years ahead, after a flat CMOS battery, a restored virtual machine,
or a bad time sync, used to leave that recorded date years in the future and end the free
run for good. A date implausibly far ahead is now ignored, one already recorded is healed
back to the real clock, and in the one case that can't be told apart from a set-back clock,
the license screen says what it recorded and how to clear it. That notice now shows for a
trial install as well.
• **Web links keep their icon on accented or non-Latin paths.** A `.url` file is an INI file,
and Explorer reads it as the system's ANSI code page, or as UTF-16 when the file starts with
a UTF-16 marker; DeskRipple read and wrote it as UTF-8. So a browser-made web link whose icon
lives under a profile folder like `C:\Users\Jürgen\` lost its icon on drag-in, and a web link
DeskRipple wrote back to the desktop on drag-out showed a blank icon there. DeskRipple now
reads `.url` files the way Explorer does and writes them in the encoding Explorer expects.
Files it writes stay readable by older versions.
• **An open panel follows a desktop icon resize.** Ctrl+scroll on the desktop resized the
icons inside an open panel but left its layout built for the old size until the panel was
closed and reopened:larger icons overran their slots and clipped at the edge, smaller ones
sat spaced for the old size inside an oversized panel. The open panel now re-lays out in
place as soon as the new size lands. Reported by a user in click mode with a panel ke |
| 1.0.0 | 25 d’agost del 2026 | — | 64 bits EXE Notes de la versió# DeskRipple v1.0.0
DeskRipple 1.0 is out, and it's the paid release the beta pointed at all along:a **one-time
purchase, not a subscription**, with the price shown at checkout on
[deskripple.com](https://deskripple.com/). If DeskRipple is already installed, it updates itself
in the background — the next launch asks you to accept the updated license agreement once, and
beta testers get their founder discount inside the app. New here? Grab
`DeskRipple-beta-Setup.exe` below (the file name keeps the update channel's name; it installs
1.0).
> 🔑 **Without a license key, DeskRipple stops working on September 1, 2026.** Enter a key once
> under **Manager → About** and there's no expiry — the key is verified on your own PC, with no
> account and no activation server. Until that date the app runs free, exactly as the beta
> disclosed. By downloading you agree to the
> [license agreement (EULA)](https://github.com/DeskRipple/deskripple/blob/main/EULA.md).
> 🎟️ **Tested the beta? You get 50% off.** The founder code is shown inside the app — on the
> license screen and in the one-time founder notice — and subscribers to the mailing list got a
> personal code by email. Codes are time-limited; the app has the details.
## 🔧 What's new in 1.0.0
• **License keys.** Buy once at [deskripple.com](https://deskripple.com/), and your receipt
links a key page that shows your key from the order number and checkout email. Enter it under
**Manager → About**; the same panel shows your license status and what the license promises
about updates. Validation is offline — no account, no phone-home.
• **The September 1 screen is a way through, not a dead end.** From that date an unlicensed
DeskRipple shows a license screen with the buy link, the founder code for beta testers, key
entry that unlocks in place, a **Restore my desktop shortcuts** button that returns every
archived desktop original, and a link to the latest version.
• **Updated license agreement.** 1.0 replaces the beta license with the full EULA — perpetual
license, at least two years of Windows-compatibility updates from purchase, 14-day refunds via
the [terms of sale](https://deskripple.com/terms.html). Every install, updated or fresh,
accepts it once on first 1.0 launch.
• **The beta is wrapped up.** Version labels, dialogs, and the welcome screen no longer say
"beta"; the founder pre-notice from v0.5.1 became the real founder offer with the live code.
• **The founder discount has a permanent home in the Manager.** The one-time founder notice can
be dismissed, and until September 1 nothing else puts checkout in front of you. The Manager
footer now carries a Buy link on any install without a key:"Get 50% off" for beta testers,
"Buy DeskRipple" otherwise. It disappears the moment a key validates.
• **DeskRipple no longer changes your "Auto arrange icons" setting.** A checkbox on the first-run
desktop notice used to let DeskRipple clear that Windows setting for you, and it re-cleared it
on every startup, with no way to switch it back off once the setting's own toggle was removed
in a July release. The notice is informational now:DeskRipple still tells you when auto-arrange
is on and what it does to folder placement, but it never touches the setting. Reported by a
beta tester.
• **A settings file that's locked when DeskRipple starts can't be overwritten.** If an antivirus
scan, a backup, or a second copy of DeskRipple held `global.json` or a profile's `config.json`
at the wrong moment, DeskRipple started on empty defaults and then saved them over the real
file, losing a license key, your diagnostics choice, or the folder list. A related path could
fall back to the backup copy and quietly roll the install back one save, dropping the folder
you had just added. A file DeskRipple couldn't read is now never written to for the rest of
that session, and the next launch reads it normally.
• **Deleting a profile can't destroy desktop shortcuts it failed to put back.** Profile delete

| 0.5.1 | 17 d’agost del 2026 | — | 64 bits EXE Notes de la versió# DeskRipple v0.5.1 (beta)
An update to the [v0.4.10 beta](https://github.com/DeskRipple/deskripple/releases/tag/v0.4.10), adding an in-app heads-up that the beta ends on September 1 and fixing folders that could scatter across monitors after a reboot. If DeskRipple is already installed, it updates itself in the background — there's nothing to do. New here? Grab `DeskRipple-beta-Setup.exe` below.
> ⚠️ **This is a beta.** Things may break or behave unexpectedly. Please report anything you hit (see **Feedback** below). A one-time paid version is coming in mid-August 2026 (not a subscription), and beta testers get a founder discount.
> ⏳ **Free during the public beta — this build stops working on September 1, 2026.** It keeps itself updated automatically (you can turn that off in the **About** dialog). By downloading you agree to the [beta license (EULA)](https://github.com/DeskRipple/deskripple/blob/main/EULA.md).
## 🔧 What's new in 0.5.1
• **A heads-up that the beta is ending.** DeskRipple now shows a one-time notice with the dates that matter:every beta build stops working on September 1, 2026, and a one-time paid version is coming in mid-August (not a subscription) with a founder discount for beta testers. Joining the mailing list — from that notice or from **Manager → About** — is how your personal discount code reaches you when the paid version goes live. Dismiss it and it won't appear again.
• **Folders stay on their monitor.** Windows can renumber displays between reboots on multi-monitor setups, and DeskRipple could mistake that renumbering for a missing monitor, relocating folders and scattering a carefully arranged layout. Monitors are now identified by the display hardware itself, and a folder's position is only rescued when it's genuinely visible on no connected screen.
• **Hover mode opens one folder at a time, every time.** The Click-mode option that keeps several folders open no longer carries over into Hover mode — hovering a new folder closes the previous one immediately instead of leaving it up for a moment.
• **Folders can't pile up on one desktop cell.** Dropping a folder onto another folder's spot now moves the resident folder to the nearest free cell, the same way native icons already step aside. Displaced icons also land on the truly nearest cell instead of hopping diagonally past a closer one.
• **Shortcut right-click menu updates.** New **Set as folder icon** uses the right-clicked shortcut's own icon for the folder. **Open** was removed (a left click already launches), and **Restore original to desktop** was removed — removing a shortcut still returns the archived original to the desktop automatically, as before.
• **The after-September-1 screen now restores your shortcuts.** If an expired build ever starts, the screen it shows links to the latest version and includes a one-click **Restore my desktop shortcuts** that returns every archived desktop original to the desktop — nothing stays locked away.
Everything else from the earlier betas — desktop folder docks, five expand styles, drag-and-drop, desktop-icon displacement, multi-monitor and mixed-DPI support, multiple profiles, automatic updates, and opt-in diagnostics — works as before.
## 📦 Install / update
• **Already installed:** nothing to do — DeskRipple checks this repo in the background and applies the update silently at an idle moment. A tray notification confirms it. (Prefer to update on your own schedule? The **About** dialog has an "Install updates automatically" toggle.)
• **New install:** download **`DeskRipple-beta-Setup.exe`** below and run it. It installs per-user (no admin prompt), adds a Start Menu entry, and launches.
> 🛡️ **SmartScreen prompt on the installer.** DeskRipple is **code-signed** (Microsoft Trusted Signing). Because it's a new app still building download reputation, Windows SmartScreen may show a prompt — if it does, click **More info → Run anyway**.
> 🔎 **Can't find the tray icon?** On Windows 11 it starts |
